Contemporary ocean front home with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, situated on the rocky coastline of Marblehead Neck. Enjoy beautiful sunrises and calming views of the ocean from almost anywhere in the main living area, an open floor plan with four living rooms and three dining areas plus a new chef style kitchen.
The house is meant to gather families. We have hosted large family gatherings in our home for years. The amazing panoramic ocean views start as soon as you enter the front door and continue through out the house. It has a fully open floor plan on the first level, and large bedrooms on the second and third levels.
Our large muti-generation family is in full agreement with all that was written about the property and surroundings in the above review, It just couldn't have been more perfect. We heartily thank our hosts for a wonderful stay.
This property is a well appointed home that was perfect for our family gathering of 3 generations and 13 people. The large kitchen had 2 dishwashers, wine fridge, large refrigerator, and 2 sinks. Dining was mostly done inside (overlooking the water), or outside on the large wrap-around patio which was especially good during the cool evenings.
Below the house are large rocks good for an adventurous dip or fishing for stripped bass. Access is via a couple of nearby roads or perhaps an accommodating neighbour. Unfortunately no direct access but that isnt a big problem.
Plenty of bathrooms and two large washing machines. Good water pressure and very clean.
Pool table, wifi and cable TV in three rooms kept the teens entertained. There are really 4 living room areas, so its a good house to keep people together, but not so tight that nerves fray.
There is also a big field in the across the bridge in mainland Marblehead for any field sports. Salem Willows is supposed to be good but we didnt go there. Jogging around the Marblehead "neck" is pleasant, low traffic, and maybe 4km to circle the island? At one end is the lighthouse which overlooks the inlet and also a nice bike/walk. We found it to be an exceptionally friendly community and we were clearly tourists. You can rent paddle boards a Devereaux beach about 1km away.
Beds, towels and sheets were all of high quality- its a very good home and we felt much more like house guests than renters.
Host family was kind enough to leave out 4 bikes, sports equipment and a BBQ all of which was well used.
Minor issues with electrical, and some might find the 3rd floor a bit hot during 2013's abnormally hot summer weather, but window AC units and fans mostly did the trick. There was almost always a cool breeze while we were there.
Better restaurants are probably found in Salem, though the lobster rolls at the Landing in Marblehead were decent. There is a WholeFoods not far away in Swampscott. Take-out steamed lobster from Rowands was excellent and highly recommended. Short trips to Boston are easy.
If you happen to be there during 4th July fireworks, watch from the Lighthouse (1 mile away) or you can get a very good view from the outside rocks (and see Salems fireworks also)
i would have no problem recommending this place. What would make it perfect? Well its pretty good as is. Maybe central aircon and private access to the rocks/ocean, but really thats nitpicking.
