HEAR THE OCEAN WAVES FROM THIS HISTORIC VICTORIAN COTTAGE. ALMOST BEACHFRONT!

Santa Cruz House Rental Photos and Description

One bedroom, one full bath, sleeps up to five.

Sharing Gates by the Sea -

Walk about 60 yards, around the corner, to the warmest beaches in Santa Cruz, including Sunny Cove and Santa Maria beaches. Play in the sand, boogie board, wander a long stretch of beach, explore the tide pools, and enjoy the sunset. Walk to nearby restaurants. The cottage is located halfway between the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and Capitola Village (two scenic miles each way).

The little beach house...Sharing Gates by the Sea...was once a part of the Victorian resort, the Hotel Villa del Mar, now a retreat center on 19th Avenue. Built in the 1890s, the 580 square foot cottage has personality and charm. The peaked redwood-paneled ceiling makes the living room feel spacious. The cottage sleeps five. There is a queen bed in the bedroom, and a full-size sofa bed in the living room. The private, sun porch room has a twin bed, and could be used as a small, second bedroom. The cozy garden surrounding the house is fully fenced.

Suitability:
  • wheelchair accessible
  • non smoking only
  • Minimum Age Limit for Renters
  • pets not allowed
  • suitable for elderly or infirm
  • children welcome

Cozy and Charming with lots of history

  • 5 of 5
The cute little beach house was everything we expected... and more! We had stopped by before when others were staying there but didn't understand how cozy and comfortable it was until we stayed there ourselves. The cabin is small, but nothing seemed "tight" and everything is very efficiently laid out. The wonderful high wooden ceiling is probably a big part of why it feels so airy and cozy. We used and loved the fireplace (even though it is mid summer) and enjoyed the cable radio. The house appears to be well maintained and is nicely furnished and decorated. Access was easy and there were no problems.

The beach access is wonderful! On Saturday we walked down to the beach near the Del Mar a couple blocks to the east and found a wonderful uncrowded beach for sunning. On Sunday we walked just a short block to the west and found a smaller, but more stunning, sandy beach with some cliffs and rocks. We enjoyed watching the waves break and splash way up in the air and walking around (carefully) on the rocks to see how they are being warn away by the wave actions. I would like to spend more time here - maybe next time.

We had dinner at the Crow's Nest nearby at the harbor and it was fantastic. The view and ambiance was spectacular, the service perfect and the food delectable.

We definitely recommend this cute beach house to anyone, especially someone who enjoys a place with lots of history and charm. We found a book in the library showing pictures of how the beach has changed by showing pictures from 1800s and early 1900s with a picture taken from nearly the same spot today. You can see the arches that have come and gone plus there were some great pictures of fabulous earlier versions of the boardwalk. We hope to stay at Sharing Gates by the Sea again someday.

Perfect beach cottage

Adorable and pristine cottage! Spotless! We really enjoyed how close to the water the cottage is located. We took our coffee and sat on the bench overlooking the ocean. Thank you Jeanne, we will return!

Had a great time!

  • 4 of 5
Had a great time at this cute little house. The listing was accurate and the owner seemed very attentive and prompt with emails. The house is small (as it says) but perfectly fine for two adults and our two little kids. I wouldn't recommend it for more than 4 people since I think it would get a bit cramped and bathroom is off the one bedroom. It had everything we needed and even some nice extras like books, movies, beach towels, etc. My only knock on it would be the street noise. I didn't realize how busy that street would be out front and so sitting outside wasn't really the peaceful scene I had hoped for. But that may just be the summer traffic.

Beautiful cottage by the sea

  • 5 of 5
This was our second visit to this quaint little cottage. We loved it the first visit so much we didn't want it to end so we booked another visit this year. Filled with all the comforts of home and a two minute walk and your feet are in the sand. We tried to find a bigger cottage but could not find anything better than this cottage for the money. This cottage is a true value in so many ways, plenty of space for your family, all the amenities of home and so close to one of the best beaches in Santa Cruz.

Quaint little cottage and close to Beach!!

  • 5 of 5
Between the O and M Families we had a total of 8 staying here. Yes it was a close company but it allowed for everyone to remain connected and forced to reside in a small environment and communicate!! The cottage was stocked with all the amenities! Wifi was a little weak but I wasn't overly concerned because it's not a necessity. Very close to several beaches and Boardwalk!
We will stay again!!
Thanks
