Spacious two story shingle style house is set far back from the street and surrounded by a tall hedge giving privacy. A deep old fashioned porch wraps around the front. It's a level 15 minute stroll into town. The house has great flow- it's airy and bright with some antiques, comfortable furniture, some nice art and no clutter. It has extra high ceilings, fine detailed molding, hardwood floors and large sunny rooms.
A generous entry hall opens into a large living room with fireplace. The living room also opens onto the front porch. There is a powder room off the foyer. Straight ahead is the dining room (will seat 12) which leads into the kitchen/family room with fireplace and piano on the south side of the house. The kitchen has granite counter tops, new appliances and is well equipped. There is a walk- in pantry and an extensive cookbook collection. This opens onto a back deck and into a private kitchen garden all enclosed by a bay hedge. In the summer there are herbs, salad, vegetables apples and lemons to pick. There are two different areas set up for outdoor dining. Behind the garden hedge and fence is a creek.
Upstairs is a mezzanine library with a lovely view of Mt. Tam and the sycamore treetops. The large master suite has a queen bed, marble fireplace, french doors to a balcony and shuttered windows on both sides. There is a large walk in closet. The marble bathroom has a large deep bathtub, separate shower, twin sinks and wc. The other three bedrooms are bright and large nicely furnished with new queen beds. The second bathroom is centrally located in the hall. The laundry area is adjacent.
We have a large enclosed front garden with 20 old English rose bushes, lavender, sunflowers, dahlias and other perennials. Wicker chairs and tables make the front porch the best room in the house in the summer. The house was featured in Sunset Magazine.
Great base for wedding guests as it is close to everything and has huge closets. The house sleeps 8 or 9. 4 queen beds. One extra twin bed is available.
I have lived in Mill Valley for over thirty years and raised my three children in this home. After all these years I am deeply rooted in this magical place full of creative, caring and active folks.
I am an artist and when the house is rented I usually go out of town on painting adventures but if I happen to be in town
I stay in a private cottage at the rear of the property.
Details will be discussed upon rental.
F Whitnall purchased this house in 1990

My house has so many different areas to enjoy. Roses and lavender in the front garden or a sunny kitchen garden in back. Pick a salad for lunch, a bouquet of roses or sunflowers for the house.
The front porch is perfect for long summer evenings- watching the light fade while listening to music maybe the owls hooting back and forth. A tall hedge gives privacy. On hot days sit in the 'way back' of the veg garden in the shade of the bay hedge and have a glass of cold white wine in the hot afternoon and listen to the creek. Watch for deer and the bobcat. There's a large kitchen that's great for multi chef cooking. Its great to be able to close the big french doors in the living room and curl up on the sofa with a book or a movie by the fire.
