Top Notch Rental experience.

Could not have been more pleased with our rental accommodations. Excellent value for the dollar.Well stocked and charming cottage. Lacking nothing. Great location. Immaculately clean. Jennifer and Jeff were great hosts. Attentive when you might have a question; but respected your privacy. Our best lodging experience while visiting the Islands...........

All Aloha and More

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed here for a week in April, and will return! The long time Hawi residents and owners, Jennifer and Jeff, have created a little piece of paradise for all those lucky enough to discover it's secrets. The cottage has everything you wish for in a secluded setting...comfy, cozy, clean, perfectly stocked, with cool breezes and lush tropical plantings that have developed over time with care by Jennifer's green thumb. Ask for a tour of the gardens and be amazed. The two owner artisans, Jeff a local contractor, artist and designer with his skilled hands, and lovely Jennifer with her gardening skills and extraordinary cut glass designs which decorate the cottage are both a treasure. The outdoor shower in rain or shine became a favorite ritual. Much appreciated were the basket of tropical fruit and local Kona coffee upon arrival. Ask them for a history of the main house, which originally was a church that they had moved onto the site, and subsequently remodeled into a beautiful island home with very special touches. A quick drive into quaint Hawi town beckons with shops and restaurants choices for all. If you want that special stay, quiet in the real Hawaii spirit, and to create some memories of your Hawaiian vacation, try this special discovery and you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic Stay

  • 5 of 5
Booked this place because of all the great reviews, and the place and owners did not disappoint. Tucked away in beautiful tropical gardens of plants and fruit outside the quaint town of Hawi. The place was perfect with awesome breezes both day and night, very clean, well organized and stocked with all cooking essentials one could need. Although on the same grounds as the owner's residence, it is very privately tucked away. Greeted with fresh flowers, home grown citrus (very good), and Kona coffee upon our arrival. In short, pretty perfect, especially for the reasonable price.

Couple very good restaurants in town, especially Sushi Rock (not your traditional sushi). Bamboo was also pretty good, had a great noodle dish with seared ahi. The Kohala Coffee Mill was great for breakfast as well.

Hiking... don't miss the Pololu Valley (real close by). Short hike and can be a little tough when it's raining (bring walking stick). Also Mo'okini Helau is pretty spiritual and almost a little creepy (park a mile out, or you'll likely get your car stuck); and read the history before you go. Short hike to Queen's bath is also very cool... lots of sights in that area.

Beaches... tons, but the very best for chillaxin are Hapuna and Mauna Kea.

Take your time and explore the whole island. We hit a lot, and still feel like we didn't see enough.

Be sure to get yourself Hawaii The Big Island Revealed by Andrew Doughty (aka The Blue Bible). While the owners have a copy in the place, it's an older copy. We found even the most current version (just published in 2014) has a few things outdated, especially when it comes to restaurants. However, overall, the book is pretty spot on!

Thanks again Jeff and Jennifer... a magical place. Very much look forward to our next trip to Hawaii and our stay at Tiki Tiki Tomba. Cheers!

The Bed of my Dreams!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed for 4 nights in March, and can only echo other positive reviews, plus I must include that I've never slept on a more comfortable bed! The gardens and cottage are beautiful and artistic...so much more inviting and interesting than staying in a hotel. Plus it comes with a small but well-stocked kitchen, and swimming gear, including 2 boogie boards.
It rained a lot during our stay, but we drove a half hour to Hapuna beach, where the sun always shone, and the waves were perfect for a couple of 50 somethings to ride on. We had so much fun!
Great hosts, very friendly and helpful. Clean, nicely furnished getaway. Highly recommend!

Better than the photos

  • 5 of 5
Of the 4 places we stayed during our month long stay on the Big Island, this was our favorite! The accomodations were fantastic. We only had 3 nights there, but wished we
could take the cottage with us for the rest of the trip. Would definitely recommend to family and friends.

The sleepy little towns of Hawi and Kapa'au has a variety of restaurants which boast live hawaiian music and entertainment. There is a large variety of gift shops, boutiques and art galleries. The Big Island Eco Adventure just 1 mile from the cottage, operates the Zipline over the most beautiful valleys the big island has to offer. 5 miles to the end of the road is the breathtaking Pololu Valley Lookout. A 20 minute trail down through lush vegetation to an amazing black sand beach. A couple of miles away at Upolu Airport one can take airplane rides of the region on Wednesdays. There are a couple of places along this stretch to swim or snorkel, Kapa'a Beach Park and Mahukona. On clear days you can see Maui and sometimes the islands of Kaho'olawe and Lana'i. No drive is more beautiful than the Kohala Mountain Road that connects us to Waimea. Don't forget the Saturday market under the banyan tree in Hawi, or the two in Waimea, where you'll always find great food and gifts.
