With aloha we welcome you to the Bamboo Cottage.

We are located on 1 acre of lush gardens at 1,000 foot elevation with views of the ocean and Mt. Haleakala on the neighbor island of Maui.

The trade winds are in constant movement here in North Kohala which creates this soothing sound perfect for any getaway.

Built in 2006, the 500 square foot cottage features bamboo floors and walls, original stain glass work throughout. The memory foam mattress and plush linens are ideal for a luxurious sleep in this peaceful setting. Hawaii's tropical climate is perfect for enjoying an additional shower located outdoors.

The Bamboo Cottage is supplied with soap, shampoo, conditioners, hair dryer, ironing board and iron. Plush linens, towel and microfiber robes.

Al fresco dining allows you to enjoy the beautiful gardens that surround you. Complimentary welcome 100% Kona coffee, selection of teas and hot cocoa provided along with oatmeal and fruit from our gardens.

Fresh cut flowers and seasonal fruit from our abundant garden.

The sleepy little towns of Hawi and Kapa'au has a variety of restaurants which boast live hawaiian music and entertainment. There is a large variety of gift shops, boutiques and art galleries. The Big Island Eco Adventure just 1 mile from the cottage, operates the Zipline over the most beautiful valleys the big island has to offer. 5 miles to the end of the road is the breathtaking Pololu Valley Lookout. A 20 minute trail down through lush vegetation to an amazing black sand beach. A couple of miles away at Upolu Airport one can take airplane rides of the region on Wednesdays. There are a couple of places along this stretch to swim or snorkel, Kapa'a Beach Park and Mahukona. On clear days you can see Maui and sometimes the islands of Kaho'olawe and Lana'i. No drive is more beautiful than the Kohala Mountain Road that connects us to Waimea. Don't forget the Saturday market under the banyan tree in Hawi, or the two in Waimea, where you'll always find great food and gifts.

What a wonderful place - hated to leave.

LOVED the cottage. Even better in person than the pics indicate. Clearly the furnishings, amenities, "nice little touches", etc. have been given loving attention, with an eye toward, and true concern for, the comfort and enjoyment of the guests. Such a wonderful comfortable mattress. LOVED the outdoor shower!!!!!!!! Be sure not to miss the Hawi Farmers' Market on Sat. mornings, and particularly the Thai food booth. Wonderful food and very inexpensive. Also, the beautiful and unique earring creations of the woman w/ the dreads. Worth the $$. The cottage was a good home base for Spencer Beach Park, Hanapua, 69 Beach, even down as far as Kua Bay and the beaches at the mega-resorts. Loved having such easy access to the Waimea grocery stores and the Big Island grass-fed beef sold there. (and the nice wine selections) Grilled almost every night. Just loved the entire experience - what a respite from the travel ordeal. Hope to return soon. Thanks for the memories.

A delightful four days in Bamboo Cottage

We thoroughly enjoyed the cleanliness, loveliness, and utter privacy of the Bamboo cottage. The location in North Kohala was excellent with the town of Hawi close, as well as excellent hiking, swimming and snorkeling opportunities a short drive away. We especially recommend snorkeling in the Mahukona beach park (which is not really a beach, but provides easy access to clear water with lots of fish), and hiking in the Pololu valley. But there is oh so much more! (check the guidebooks in the cottage for lots of useful information). You'll enjoy it!

Overdue Rave

My husband and I escaped to this wonderful place last May, 2012, for some rest and replenishment from all of life's responsibilities for 5 days and it was WONDERFUL! We didn't want to leave. The cottage is beautiful, homey and very comfortable. We loved the cross breeze that we could have due to the screened in patio which allowed us to open the front door, bringing wonderful Hawaiian air straight through the cottage and out the back windows. It is definitely hidden and off the beaten track way up on the North part of the Island, so not for people interested in the touristy scene. The tiny yet well stocked kitchen was perfect for meals we wanted to make at home. We loved using the bbq on fresh fish from a local fish market about 20 min south. Wonderful local BBQ place and sushi, as well as shaved ice and fudge. The only con was not being within walking distance of a swimable beach, but still, no regrets. We will definetly be back. Thank you!!

Quiet, Beautiful Retreat

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bamboo Cottage. It was well furnished and the stain-glassed work was gorgeous. There were so many thoughtful details taken care of, especially all the snorkeling equipment, cooler, and beach gear. We enjoyed the fruit from the garden. The kitchen was well-equipped, which let us prepare a few meals at the cottage. We also enjoyed many of the restaurants in Hawi and Kaupa'a. The location was a perfect mix of quiet and slow-paced, along with good places to shop, eat, and snorkel/swim. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

We love this place. A great cottage in a wonderful location on Hawaii. Great decor and the VRBO photos don't truly do it justice. Well maintained and clean, just like your own cottage home in paradise. Highly recommended if you want a quiet place in tropical environment away from any crowds. We hopefully will be back.
