There are two structures on the property that can house 12 people or more. The main one, known as the Villa, has four bedrooms, five bathrooms, two living rooms, a dining room and an elevator. There are two fireplaces, each with reclaimed wood and terracotta tiles. The oven, located at the heart of the house, was once used to cook bread for the town. It has been fully restored to cook excellent pizza or schiacciata and is now part of a kitchen with modern, high-tech, restaurant-quality Viking appliances that include a steam oven. There is floor heating under the reclaimed tiles.
The second, smaller structure is the main structure's Fienile. This is a two-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment with its own kitchen, dining room and living room. The bedrooms have impressive views of the sprawling valley and its proximity to the property's lake allows for the symphony of frogs to be a nice lullaby. It has floor to ceiling windows that overlook the garden and open up to its own terrace with a spacious dining table.
Le Argille's 16-acre property includes a salt-water infinity pool (with a shallow children's wading section), a pool bathroom, a jacuzzi and a cabana area. There is also a heart-shaped pond with lilies and lotuses, around which are Carrara marble sculptures hand-made by artist Neil Barab, including a mini ping pong table (we also have a normal sized one for adults). We make wine from our vineyards and olive oil from our 600 olive trees. We have our own chickens, turkeys and a rooster we affectionately call Casanova. There is also an organic garden where we grow zucchini, artichokes, tomatoes, cabbage, onions and garlic among other produce. There are pear and fig trees from which we make jams. We also have sage, rosemary, mint and basel grown on the property, which is skirted by an old pine forest.

Le Argille, is located in Strada in Chianti, a 20-minute ride from Florence. Perched on a hilltop, this former Buddhist and yoga retreat in the heart of Tuscany, was fully renovated in 2011 by the Fiumi family, with Architect Giovanni Cini. The mission was to preserve the old characteristics of this casa colonica (country house) while modernizing certain aspects to adapt to a modern lifestyle.
Fiumi Family purchased this villa in 2008
What a find! A true gem of a property. It was the home you would love to own.Every facility is well thought out to a high standard; from each bedroom having its own bathroom (no queuing in the morning) to a fully functioning second kitchen and cabana right by the pool! A welcome and added bonus was Annalisa for whom no request was too difficult and the resident housekeeper Tereze whose cooking was fabulous! Our adult children referred to the villa as 'the womb' and it certainly felt that way after a busy day sightseeing . A fabulous place to relax...I can't wait to return!
We had a wonderful stay in the Villa for 2 weeks in August 2014. There were 10 in our party and the villa + guest house accommodated us all with ease.
The villa is very well thought out for the comfort of those staying, there is even a toilet close to the pool to save people having to go back to the main house. The sound system sound the pool area is another nice touch giving the feeling of a 5 star hotel.
The views from the house overlooking the Tuscan hills are wonderful. Lying by the pool we had to pinch ourselves that the views were in fact real and not just painted scenery. The only slight down side was the pool water temperature. A few of our nights were quite chilly by Tuscan August standards and that led to the pool water temperature becoming quite cold. I would suggest turning up the water heating a little bit.
Inside the Villa is very well furnished with many mod cons, but it still manages to maintain its rustic charm. The AC is great - better than many hotels I've stayed in and the showers/bathrooms are great. Having so many bathroom was a godsend for a party our size.
Whilst the Villa was superb for us the icing on the cake were Annalisa the manager and Tereza the cook/cleaner. Annalisa was so helpful, nothing seemed too much bother. She has taken customer service to a very high standard. Tereza cooking was brilliant. We used her for a number of breakfasts and evening meals throughout the two weeks and were never disappointed. Her Tiramasu is to die for. Not only was the food superb but excellent value for money. We also loved her home made wine. This helped us no end as the nearby village of Strada seemed to be completely shut down over the August
I would thoroughly recommend this villa to anybody and sampling Tereza's cooking is a must.
This was to be my wife's big 60th birthday celebration with our kids a husband and girlfriend respectively along with some dear friends, and it was! The directions from the airport were spot on and within 30 minutes of leaving the airport we were entering this magical property. The driveway leads you to his old stone farmhouse, completely renovated, situated on a hill overlooking a vast valley. There are olive trees, a lilly pond and red geraniums to greet you. The house was spotless when we arrived with a welcome basket.
The house is comfortable with a state of the art kitchen and modern tiled high end bathrooms. The kitchen is stocked with all the appliances and utensils you would need for a great meal. The caretakers were so pleasent and were alway avaliable whenever needed. One evening they setup the grill for one of our meals. The charcoal briquettes would have been fine but they added wood chips for some extra flavor. The chicken was fantastic.
The infiniti pool was situated with a perfect view of the valley.
The villa is walking distance into the town of Starda where we purchased fresh bread, cheese and fruit each morning. Morover there is wonderfull ltitle restaurant there where we had a great meal one evening.
My favorite moments were sipping coffee in the early morning while lookng out over the valley watching the early morning mists.
As our kids said this was their best vacation, I have to agree it was mine.
We stayed at the villa with 3 families. Six adults and seven teenage kids, mostly boys. The villa was the perfect set up for us since the adults had the main house which was so roomy and private and 4 of the boys stayed in the guest cottage. It was the perfect blend of old world Italian Tuscan charm with modern updated conveniences with a very casual & comfortable decor.
The grounds were spectacular with the infiniti pool, hot tub and outdoor kitchen surrounded by the Tuscany mountains & Florence...spectacular. The kids played ping pong every day and the outdoor soccer field was pretty amazing.
The highlight of the villa was Theresa & Paoli, the Inn keepers and Annalisa the caretaker was so sweet. They all were so friendly & helpful and Theresa's cooking was superb. It was such a treat waking up to her delicious breakfasts and her homemade dinners and fresh pizza out of the brick oven were amazing.
Only 2 negatives were that we wish we spent more time relaxing at the villa and also that everything wasn't quite so far to get to. That said, we would love to come back to this very special place some day.
For many years our dream has been to rent a villa in Tuscany and live the life we only hear about or see in movies. Renting this former monestary, Le Argille, in the small town of Strada in Chianti was everything and more of what I have always envisioned as a true Tuscan experience. Our group of ten people rented this magnificent villa and guest house in July 2014. Met by both the onsite caretaker and offsite property manager we were provided a complete tour of the property and history of the home. We enjoyed it all . . . the wood fired oven in which the caretaker and his wonderful wife prepared homemade pizzas, the amazing infinity pool and hot tub, multiple indoor and outdoor lounge areas for late night gatherings, 2 indoor and 1 outdoor fully furnished kitchen, and the impeccable rooms with no architectural details overlooked. The villa is close enough to town to walk if so desired. We easily drove to Sienna, San Gimignano, Montalcino and Florence on day trips. From the villa it is a short 20-30 minute drive into Florence, and conveniently located to several local vineyards and olive groves.
There were no children in our group, but for those with children there is a mini soccer field and one of the most amazing tree houses I have ever seen. We were told that the installation of a full gym is in the works in the basement area overlooking the outdoor swimming pool.
Le Argille produces its own wine as well as olive oil, of which we enjoyed both immensely. Its been 3 weeks since our departure from Le Argille and everyone in the group still talks about the incredible vacation at this most amazing villa in an absolutely beautiful piece of paradise. We are most definitely planning to return.
We stayed at Le Argille to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with our children, their spouses and our grandchildren. There were 12 of us - six adults and six children ranging in age from almost 2 to almost 12 years.
The villa is beautifully located amongst olive groves with a commanding and lovely view of the surrounding countryside. While quiet and secluded, It is very convenient to Florence, Sienna and other hill towns.
We used both the villa and the guest house and were extremely comfortable. The property has been beautifully restored with every modern convenience while still retaining its charm and original character. The facilities include a large, wonderful infinity pool and hot tub, which was used and appreciated by us (especially the kids) after a day of sightseeing. The children also loved the soccer field and the wonderful tree house on the property. There is air-conditioning, a washer-dryer in the villa and another in the guest house. This property is ideal for families but would be equally wonderful for 3 -4 couples. The entire property was well maintained, immaculate and comfortable.
We enjoyed having drinks and dinner (prepared by the resident caretaker/cook), at the outdoor kitchen/ dining area and pavilion. (The dinners and breakfasts are at an additional, but very reasonable cost and were wonderful.)
The agent for the property was welcoming and extremely helpful. She made sure that all was perfect. The caretaker/cook made us so comfortable and prepared meals that everyone loved. She was indispensable.
The only problem with staying at Le Argille is that we had to leave - no one wanted to.
