GREAT FAMILY SPOT

We stayed at Seaview over the Easter weekend for a family vacation. The house is fantastic -- well laid out for renters, and very well equipped. Our party included two chefs and they were very happy with both the layout of and equipment in the kitchen. Th

Owner's Response: Dear Nicole,

Thank you so much for your kind words. We are delighted you and your family enjoyed your time with us over Easter. It makes me smile to hear that the kitchen was up to snuff for your two chefs. I love to cook and I figure many of our guests do as well, so we try to ensure the kitchen is ready to take on a gourmet challenge. Thank you too for leaving the house in such great shape. It is always appreciated by our cleaning teams.

We hope to have you back with us again soon.

A TRULY UNIQUE WESTCOAST EXPERIENCE

  • 5 of 5
We rented Seaview for 3 months (Januray through March 2014) to escape the cold weather of winter and from the moment we walked in the front door we felt totally at home. The house and surrounding yard are simply lovely and beautifully maintained and with Seaview's awesome location we had everything we needed to be completely comfortable. But we quickly discovered that the best things about living at Seaview all really start with Su, the property manager. Her fantastic "red binder" is full of recommendations about where to shop, restuarants to visit and points of interest and parks to explore. Her attention to detail is truly amazing and it was all these details that made our our stay so very enjoyable and allowed us to easily entertain our family and friends at our home away from home.

Seaview sits right down on the shores of Departure Bay and in addition to this very central location which allows for wonderfully quick and easy access to everything in and around Nanaimo, every day you can enjoy the spectacular views from either inside the house or sitting outside on the beautiful and expansive deck. The Bay is the focal point for all who live in Nanaimo and suffice it to say that there is always something going on in the Bay to watch and enjoy - from the ferries and sailboats to the soaring eagles and little river otters and of course the constant and soothing sound of the ocean waves breaking against the shoreline as the tides move in and out. Nothing quite matches having a morning coffee on the deck while enjoying the beauty and peacefulness of the Bay.

Seaview quickly became and remains a very special place for us and for our family. In fact before leaving in early April we made arrangements to return again in 2015 which we think says a whole lot about what Seaview means to us. It was our sincere pleasure to have stayed at Seaview and we know it will be yours as well.

Owner's Response: Dear David, Judy and Jacob the wonder dog, Thank you most heartedly for your very kind words. It was a pleasure to have you as our guests over the winter season. You certainly did get to experience all Nanaimo & Departure Bay has to offer, including dolphins & orcas right in the bay. And then of course we had that freak snow storm which, as you found out, we are not used to getting, nor for that matter, digging out from. I look forward to 2015 and having you back in residence. All the best, Su G.

PERFECT FAMILY HOLIDAY!

  • 5 of 5
This house was perfect for our family to come for the holidays. Su and her team were so very accommodating for us with the check-in activities and we even had a Christmas tree set-up upon our arrival. This was much appreciated especially after such a long trip to get there. The house was immaculate and perfect for the five of us. It was in a great location for the kids to be able to play outside and end their day riding their scooters to get a slurpee at 7-eleven. The location was perfect. We have stayed in two other homes in the Nanaimo area and this was by far the nicest and the one we expect to come back to on our next visit. It is close to all necessary shopping, movie theatres and Su even helped us find a nice nature trail in the area to do some outdoor walking. Anyone thinking of renting this home should do so as you will not be disappointed. Thank you Su (and team) for a memorable holiday getaway!

Owner's Response: Dear Jennifer & family,

Thank you so much for your kind review. It was a pleasure to have you stay with us over the Christmas season.

As well, we appreciated the great care you took with the house, and the pristine state within which it was left upon your departure.

I have two more hikes I would like to suggest for your next trip.

We hope to have you with us again soon.

GULF ISLAND MAGIC ONLY A KILOMETER OR TWO FROM CITY AMENITIES.

  • 5 of 5
The owner has had fun renovating Seaview Beach House and designing and building Departure Bay House a few doors along the beach. The condition of Seaview was superlative; spotless, well appointed and provisioned, with even a complimentary bottle of wine. We were asked for our dog's size so suitable dog beds and dishes could be provided.

Additional to the well placed reviewers' accolades on the web site, the pleasure for us was discovering the owner's great design ideas. She has a fine eye for colour schemes, furniture, clever light switches that double click to turn on efficient bathroom fans, beautifully designed ceiling fans and well put together radiators from Great Britain. If I ever design another house I'll consult this talented woman.

We visited her neighbouring VRBO house. Like Seaview House the views from all windows are exquisite. The new house is a masterpiece but is dog free; an alternative for allergy susceptible guests.

The beach is off limits to dogs from May 1st to September 30th but for seven months dogs can swim. There is a seawall promenade for half the length of the beach and a large off leash dog park one block from the water about one km northwest. Invermere dog beach is a few km north west. The ferry terminal is down the bay and ferries coming and going are exciting rather than intrusive. The water is crystal clear; the beach unlittered.

We think old town Nanaimo is an undiscovered gem; a superb art gallery, great restaurants, Mon Petit Chou Cafe, McLean's Specialty Foods, and close to Seaview the divine Nesvog's Meat and Sausages and Sea Drift Fish Store...and Thrifty's. So many places to explore including Newcastle Island with it's seaside trails and historic sites.

Of the more than a dozen VRBO homes we've enjoyed over the past decade this is the one we will return to despite the lure of new destinations. We really didn't need to bring anything but our clothes and personal items. Kudos to the owner/manager and her very capable assistant for giving us such a wonderful vacation.

Owner's Response: Dear Jim. Linda & Choco, I am speechless. Thank you from my whole team - both those on the recent renovations at Seaview and those on the new build at Departure Bay Beach House, plus my talented dream-clean-team who work with me day-to-day. I will pass along this review to them. They work very hard to keep our two homes in tip-top shape and they will appreciate your feedback. We do hope to have you back with us in the near future. RELAXING VACATION SPOT

  • 5 of 5
Like everyone else, we found the Seaview Beach House in Nanaimo to be everything we could have hoped for. The location can’t be beat and is within 5 minutes of departing the ferry at Departure Bay. We were at the house and could easily watch the same ferry we arrived on depart back towards the mainland. The house is located right on the bay and the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks is immediately relaxing. We have stayed at many VRBO houses over the last number of years and there is no doubt, as many others have said, that the house is set up perfectly for a relaxing vacation. I don’t think we have seen a kitchen so well stocked for almost anything we could dream of as far as culinary adventures. I usually end up sharpening the household knives as most are usually dull but at Seaview everything was as sharp as can be. There honestly was nothing to do that had not already been attended to. The view from the kitchen while you cook and from the rest of the front of house is breathtaking. The rest of the house was well set up and extremely comfortable. The Weber BBQ was brand new and great to grill with. Beds and linens were very comfortable and along with the sounds of ocean out your door, a good nights sleep is pretty much guaranteed.

One of the things that puts this property above others is the binder that Su prepares for her guests recommending local establishments and sites to visit. One of the best things about these types of places is pretending that your a local for the time of your stay and what better way than to visit the places the locals recommend. Su mentioned Nesvogs, Riso, Thrifty Market and others and they did not disappoint. We visited Nesvogs almost daily and it is hard to beat. As others have said, it is great to be able to bring your four legged family members along on vacation and we thank Su for allowing us to do that. Cooper slept well there and after we left due to all the exercise and fresh air that she got. Prior to our visit, Su went out of her way to help us find local dog food suppliers as well as off leash areas where Cooper could run free. The neighbours are also very friendly and a great source of information and history of the area.

We could only stay a week this time but we’ve already begun planning our next visit. This truly is one of the best vacation homes we have rented and we look forward to returning. We look forward to getting the kayak in the water and to also see the illusive (at least for us) otters.

Owner's Response: Dear Rob, Kendra and Cooper, It was a pleasure having you stay with us at Seaview Beach House this past September. Even better is knowing that you will be back again with us in September 2014. I promise to alert the otters to your return and hopefully they will make a cameo appearance for you visit next year. If not, I will try to capture some paparazzi otter pics and forward them onto you. As the song goes, "See you in September"...hum, I think that likely dates me using that reference. Cheers, Su Grimmer

GORGEOUS HOME AWAY FROM HOME!

  • 5 of 5
We visited family for a few nights that were staying for a few weeks in September. What a gorgeous house this is. The open concept layout was really great and the full ocean view is outstanding. We really appreciated that our fur babies were welcome, and the extra beds and towels etc for them was a great bonus. It was really nice to have a separate bathroom for each bedroom and the large deck areas were an added bonus. We can't say enough good things about the house itself, we personally didn't have direct dealings with the owner, but our family had said they were very easy to deal with and they had a fabulous time during their vacation. Kitchen was well stocked and the BBQ access was great too, we would recommend this house for families or couples and definitely go for a walk on the beach.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words about your stay at Seaview Beach House. We were delighted to be the location for your family reunion in Nanaimo BC. We love dogs so it is a pleasure to hear that your "fur babies" were happy & comfortable while in residence. I had a note from Courtney and Sara mentioning that you hope to return in the future. That is great news. Until then, all the best. Thank you again for the great review. Cheers, Su Grimmer
