What a great place to house yourself and your horse after a fun day or two (or three, or four) together on the great trails at McKinney Roughs. Or, a quiet getaway that still offers access to Austin's entertainment district, or for after a day at the races at the Circuit of the Americas . You're less than 20 minutes from restaurants and urban amenities in either direction.
The McKinney Roughs Nature Park's trail system is one of the premier equestrian activity venues in Central Texas, and is located an easy couple of minutes ride/walk from the Rough Riders' Retreat. The trails are also open to hikers and offer classic Texas cattle-country terrain and scenic vistas as well as access to the Colorado River. Plus, we are only 20 minutes from the Circuit of the Americas track and venue.
Thank you for a lovely weekend get away! Peggy and I had a wonderful time at your cottage...
The owners were very welcoming of me and my 3 German Shepherds. The place was perfect with plenty of room for my pups to play! They especially loved the Hereford bull next door! I plan on staying here when ever I visit Austin with my pups! Great place in the country!
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Rough Riders' Retreat! The photos and description were spot-on, so there were no surprises. Joyce showed great hospitality and made me feel at home. I loved the pastoral setting, and took advantage of hiking through the adjoining parklands. If ever I have the opportunity to return to the Austin area, I hope I can stay here again!
Property was clean and well maintained. Joyce was friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this to anyone that needs to put a horse up for the night or have a place to stay for Formula 1 weekend! ;-)
Rough Rider's Retreat was perfect for our stay in Texas! It is quiet, tucked away, but not far from Austin. A friendly tabby cat greeted us on the porch upon arrival. I loved listening to the birds and crickets at night, nature's music! Joyce was friendly & helpful. We were gone for most of the weekend, but I thought, wouldn't it be nice to sit outside under the stars in the evening and have coffee out at the picnic table in the morning. I just didn't have the time, but could picture it in my mind...a lovely little country home for the weekend!
We stayed for a weekend and it was a great experience. The owners were great an very helpful. They made sure we had everything we needed. The cottage was very clean and cm close to a lot of activities while still being very private and peaceful. We will definitely be going back for another visit.
My family(3) stayed at this property in December. We were very pleased with our stay.
I was seeking a quiet retreat with quick access to the Austin airport.
The property is well maintained and strategically equipped with amenities that make a stay very comfortable. It is very convenient to shopping and other venues in Austin, San Marcos, and Bastrop. It is also minutes away from the Austin airport. Joyce and Jon were extremely responsive and helpful in facilitating and scheduling our visit. I found the Wi-Fi service robust and reliable.
Although we had no horses to house, we did take advantage of the hiking venue. We were there during some of the coldest nights of the year and were pleased with the design and performance of the climate control system. It is clear Joyce and Jon have made every effort to equip and maintain the property in a way that makes your stay comfortable and relaxing.
