About Finn Alban

Finn Alban, is the current owner of this historic farm house bought by her parents in 1966 as a place to retire. She is a 5th generation Texan and an award winning potter who creates pottery and sculpture in her studio behind the house. Finn's portion of the house is completely separate from the B&B.

Finn Alban purchased this house in 1966

Why Finn Alban chose Fredericksburg

'While growing up in San Antonio, I had often visited the Hill Country as a child. Even then, I knew that some day, some way, I would live there. When my son was 4 years old, that opportunity came and we moved here to this very special small town with its wonderful community.'

What makes this house unique

This antique and art filled property, is a well cared for, family home that has in the past, sheltered many people in a loving way. The sun bleached limestone walls give this house it's rightful sense of place in the Texas Hill Country.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Dear Finn,

We had a lovely time here. This was our first visit to Fredericksburg and will remember it fondly. We really enjoyed sitting in the backyard with the fire going at night. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfy stay. Zoey loved being able to roam around your fenced yard.

Thank you so much. Have a lovely Holiday! We will be back again!

Historical and artsy charm

  • 5 of 5
Our host was very accommodating with our needs and requests and made us feel at home. Although she lived on the property, we never felt like we were in someone else's space by any means. The home is super cozy but roomy enough for our group of four girls. The bathroom is huge, so that posed no problem for us, even when we were getting ready for a night out on the small town. It was in great proximity to everything and very easy to get to from downtown without many twists or turns. It's within walking distance of HEB which was helpful when needing snacks and gas. Even on a hot weekend, the house stayed nice and cool with the A/C on and the shade of the tree over the house. The kitchen area (in a closet, no real kitchen) had everything you could need tucked away. We really enjoyed our stay!

My only tip for Finn would be to put instructions somewhere easy to find for the coffee maker. We couldn't figure it out and since I don't drink coffee I couldn't offer much help. There may be instructions somewhere, but we didn't put in the effort to look. Regardless of our inability to work the coffee maker, we had a great stay!!! Highly recommended!

Adorable

  • 5 of 5
To begin, this little cottage was amazing. Such a homey and comfortable feel with a hostess that is so giving! The home is small but is so accommodating and laid out perfectly for easy maneuvering. My husband and I were very impressed with property as well. The front and back yards are shaded and fenced in - so if you have a pet (which we did) they can run free. Also, there were many dog accommodations inside the house as well.
The walk to town is very short! The city is within an arms reach but when your "home" you have the perfect piece of land to rest on. Very quiet and peaceful.
The location of the home is also a short distance (20 minutes driving or so) to most major attractions!
If you're looking for a gracious hostess with a home that is minutes away from any activity, this is it!

Cute little cottage, perfect for a quick getaway!

  • 5 of 5
This cottage was perfect for a quick getaway. It was clean and cozy. Close to Main St and within walking distance if you are wanting to get some exercise in. There isn't a kitchen but there is a mini fridge, microwave and coffee machine. I normally do not make meals when on quick vacations anyway, so this was perfect. Finn left a bowl full of fruit on the table for our arrival and then the next morning, she even baked delicious banana muffins and left them on the front porch with some butter, loved it! The cottage is rustic which fits the feel of Fredericksburg perfectly. Finn does live next door but we didn't find that an issue at all since we were rarely there (we visited wineries, local restaurants and Enchanted Rock). Everything we needed was at our fingertips. Cute spot, you won't be disappointed!

Rest full, art filled, authentic

  • 5 of 5
For my first time in this part of our country, I wanted to experience a sense of those who settled here. Finn's accommodation, hospitality, and historic knowledge due to her multi-generation heritage in the area more than gave me the experience I was seeking. Her ceramic studio and products (several which I purchased to remind me of my travels here) were the unexpected added value to my stay. The property is immaculate. I wanted for nothing. All my needs were anticipated due to Finn's keen and aesthetic eye to detail. Quiet, private, magical, thoughtful. I will recommend this lovely respite to all.
