This two-cottage compound is ideal for an extended family group. Each cottage is fully equipped with kitchen and bath (two baths, in one case) and screened porches, and they share a generous lawn area with 200 feet of level lakefront. If you are like our family, the group includes some active, athletic members and some who prefer to spend their vacation napping in the hammock or doing jigsaw puzzles. This set-up gives you a great combination of family togetherness and privacy.
The property is next to Menteth Creek and looks due south, toward the receding hills of Naples and toward Bare Hill on the east side, enjoying one of the best views from the west side of Canandaigua Lake.
The property has been in the same family since 1922. The Stone Cottage was built in 1969, replacing an earlier cottage, and has a great room with stone fireplace, living-dining room, and open stair up to the master suite. The kitchen has a pass-through to the screened dining porch with built-in grill. The living room has a sliding glass door to an open porch enclosed by a low stone wall. There is a rear porch off the kitchen with clothes lines for bathing suit and towel drying. The two first floor bedrooms have twin beds (bunk beds in one case) and a full bath, while the upstairs master suite has a king size bed, a bath with shower, and a private lakeview balcony. Overall occupancy is 6 and square footage is about 1600. An extra bonus - a grand piano!
The smaller cottage was built in 1948 for our grandmother – we call it Gram’s House. If you visited your grandmother at a lakefront cabin, this cottage will seem very familiar. It has a large screened porch across the full lake frontage, with a dining table that expands to seat 10 - also a chaise lounge and wicker chairs, and a pass-through to the kitchen. The living room and kitchen are knotty pine, with a stone fireplace. The house has two bedrooms, both with twin beds, and a full size bath. Beds in the master bedroom can be joined and used as a king. Occupancy is 4, and square footage is about 900 square feet.
The 8-acre property has level lawns surrounding both cottages, plenty of parking area, and an open field between the cottages and West Lake Road, so there is plenty of privacy. There is a tennis court (fair condition, shared) on the property, and lawn area for croquet, badminton, bocce, or frisbee. Our lakefront has stone breakwalls in front of each house, a 16-foot wooden dock with ladder, and a shale beach (perfect for stone skipping) between. We do not offer the use of any boats or a mooring, but past renters have brought their own or rented boats for daytime use from lakeside marinas. The shale beach area is level, so you can back a trailer to the lake and launch your boat from there. The property has plenty of mature shade trees, perennial gardens, and an herb garden. We have a large and heavily used bonfire spot near the beach.
We only rent for only a few weeks a year typically, and our cottages are not equipped with all the modern conveniences - no dishwashers or washer-dryer, though we do have basic cable TV, internet access and a VCR and DVD player. We are especially interested in finding multi-week renters. Please contact us about the schedule if you are interested in one or both cottages for two weeks or more.
