David is a University Professor and Marti is retired after working as a professional archaeologist then a City administrator for many years. Our 'first' home is in Flagstaff, Arizona. He loves mountain biking and rock climbing and she hiking, history, museums and beaches/snorkeling.

Marti purchased this house in 2010

We love to hike and explore the slots, canyons and ruins of the 4-corners area. We eventually found we spent so much time in S. Utah we decided to build our dream home there.

Many areas of the US Southwest have been 'discovered' and commercialized in the past decade. Bluff is Utah's best kept secret - world class scenery, the San Juan River for swimming and rafting, surrounded by thousands of square miles of public lands with amazing canyons and Anasazi ruins to discover and explore (please be respectful and leave them as you found them).. Check out http://www.bluffutah.org/links.htm or http://www.utahscanyoncountry.com/index.html for more information on our area.

BEST HOUSE IN SE UTAH!!

If you are looking for a place to stay in SE Utah - LOOK NO FURTHER!

Great central location to many spectacular parks and local vistas. Close enough for us to see Arches, Canyonlands, and other national parks, but out the back door there is amazing hiking/rafting/biking too!

We were a bit skeptical about staying in the fairly unknown town of Bluff in a home without reviews - but we found it was perfect for us! A bit of a drive from the airport, but worth it! We stopped for groceries on the way into town (as there is no grocery store in Bluff- closest about 20min), and just enjoyed the house - we found that cooking in was so relaxing we never ventured out to eat. If you did wish to go out, there were several quaint restaurants and a coffee shop/bakery in town.

We found the house to be extremely private, clean, well stocked, and met all of our needs. Beautiful view of red rock canyon, a back patio that was a small oasis in the desert complete with beautiful Kiva and hot tub. VERY NICE!!!!!!!! Ate almost every meal in the outside dining area. Other pluses: Private garage with door opener to park your car in the cool, nice linens, inside cozy fireplace, and comfy furniture.

Marti was very organized and prompt with providing house information, including all needed instructions and helpful suggestions of "what to do" in the area. Very generous offering to loan out plentiful outdoors equipment ie mountain bikes/ kayaks, coolers ect.

Nearly all our world travel vacation accommodations are booked via HomeAway/VRBO/Personal Owners ect.- Bar None - One of the most special houses we have had the opportunity to stay. We are already looking forward to a return trip! Thanks Marti for making our stay so amazing!

Fabulous in Every Way

This is one of the nicest homes we ever stayed in, not only because of the house 'proper,' but also the area. We were initially hesitant to rent this because there were no reviews to go by and it was a long trip for us to get there - being from the Northeast. But we were very interested in exploring this part of Utah and there were few if any other rentals in the immediate area.

We could not have been happier with the property. The house is lovely, and reasonably new. The back yard patio area is awesome. It was too hot for us to enjoy the hot tub or the fancy kiva fireplace, but we hope to rent again some time in cooler weather.

A couple other plusses were the great indoor lighting with dimmers on so many of the lights you could make the atmosphere very cozy. Plus we could park our rental car in the garage which kept it from baking in the June heat. I'm not much for cooking on vacation but it that's your thing the kitchen is chock full of every tool you need.

The owners were very easy to deal with and helpful. There was a binder left for us with all kinds of things to do described with directions (in fact I accidentally came home with the 'Bluff History Tour on Foot' book that I need to return).

The photos of the place on this website are representative. Sometimes you see nice photos and then you get to a place and discover it's right on top the neighbors house with screaming kids and the like. But the only surprises here were pleasant ones.

Now I want to add the following: If your idea of vacation is being with the crowds and fancy nightlife and lots of restaurants this isn't the place for you. Bluff feels like the middle of freekin' nowhere. Seriously there's nothing for miles around. You have to pack in your groceries, for example, since the store in town only carries the basics. BUT if your idea of vacation is getting off the beaten track and having some peace and quiet and exploring without a line of people in front of you or behind you .... then this is for you.

My only reservation in writing this review is that too many people will come here and ruin it. If you know what I mean.

Our home is in the center of the 'four-corners' - a vast region encompassing portions of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah containing America’s largest concentration of national parks and monuments. Some of America’s most diverse scenery can be found here – Arches, Canyonlands, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon and Natural Bridges, Lake Powell, Monument Valley - to name just a few. Remote canyons, slickrock hiking/biking, fascinating geologic features and the remnants of prehistoric cultures are found everywhere.

Bluff is a small community of archaeologists, outdoor guides, artists and river runners. Super quiet, relatively remote (no grocery shopping except a small quickmart for milk, gas, etc.) few restaurants, one (great) coffee shop and no bars nor nightlife - this is the place to come to get away. Even a car is optional - just walk up Cottonwood Wash to discover Anasazi ruins/petroglyphs, hidden springs and swimming holes.
