Photos and Description of the West Vancouver vacation house rental
A vacation house that has it all: an artist and interior decorator's home

West Vancouver is nestled on the lush south-facing slopes of the Coast Mountains on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet, in British Columbia. The Municipality spans 89 square kilometres and is bordered by Howe Sound to the west, the Capilano River to the east, the Coast mountains to the north. Our picturesque community is known for its sandy beaches, seaside walks, marinas, hiking trails, ski area, and distinctive residential neighbourhoods. West Vancouver combines small-town charm with cosmopolitan amenities in several unique village business areas. The natural setting and proximity to downtown Vancouver completes our desirable setting.

Dundarave Village is a charming seaside community located in picturesque West Vancouver. A great place to escape and enjoy lunch with a friend, or explore an eclectic mix of galleries, antique shops and one-of-a-kind specialty stores. A world away from the city - come relax and experience the sophisticated ambiance of historic Dundarave Village. Dundarave Village was once a sleepy residential outpost to Vancouver. Before the Lions Gate Bridge was built people would row over to their summer cottages. In recent decades, the village has grown into an eclectic and unique shopping and service area although still retaining its old-fashioned charm. One- and two-story buildings line the 2400 block of Marine Drive, housing restaurants and cafes, art galleries and specialty shops.

The quaint village-like charm of Dundarave is enhanced by its central boulevard brimming with trees and flowers during the spring, summer and fall seasons and with lit and decorated Christmas trees during its Festival of Lights. The festive mood of the village continues throughout the year with community events designed around the entire family.Dundarave Village is an ideal place for children with its sandy beach and waterfront playground. The historic Dundarave pier and picturesque mile-long seawall are enjoyed year round by both tourists and locals alike.Bring a picnic lunch or enjoy the view from the deck of an ocean front restaurant ~ Dundarave Village is a wonderful place to spend your day!

Mountainous and laden with forested parks, Vancouver's North Shore bills itself as the place 'Where Nature Lives.' That's justified by the long list of outdoorsy things to do in West Vancouver and neighbouring North Vancouver: skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, golf, hiking, and suspension bridges figure prominently. Yet for those who prefer a more relaxed pace, this area stretching from Horseshoe Bay to Deep Cove also has great art galleries, shopping, museums, and other cultural amenities. By bridge or catamaran ferry, it's just minutes from downtown Vancouver. Skiing on the North Shore is one of winter's great pleasures, and there are three key ski mountains – Cypress Mountain, Grouse Mountain, and Mount Seymour.

Why Palm Desert Vacation Properties chose West Vancouver

We have owned many houses in Vancouver and West Vancouver. Of them all this is our best and in our favourite location - the Village of Dundarave is everything one would want in a neighbourhood - happy friendly community - with some wonderful amenities. Walking distance to the shops, pier and seawall is our prime requirement - next is the proximity to the recreation center, local ski hills just above us and more at Whistler just an hour away .... the ferry terminal is nearby for Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and Bown Island. All that without mentioning more in North Vancouver and downtown Vancouver which is only a bridge away.

What makes this house unique

The house is your own private resort - and even better because it is a warm cozy home that you will not want to leave. Ideal for family gatherings .... so often housing wedding guests.

Large deck facing south - view of English Bay and Vancouver Island

• DUNDARAVE VILLAGE – 2 blocks away on Marine Drive. It is only a block long but everything is there: IGA for groceries, 2 liquor stores, Starbucks and another coffee shop, drug store, a half dozen of the pub/café/restaurant places, bank and some gallery and nick knack shops. On the water at the foot of 25th is the Beach House restaurant – that along with the Truffle Café and Fish Market are the better restaurants – although I am a regular at the Bread Basket and Sushi restaurants …. well, no reason not to go to the Red Lion Pub and further down is Verdicchio Italian café.

• EXPLORE THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - The beach (rocky) is 100 yards away. Public pier and sand beach is not far. If the sun comes out it will be swimmable – in the appropriate season. A great seawall – can walk all the way to Park Royal or carry on up the Capilano River on a trail to the Cleveland Dam.

• PARK ROYAL SHOPPING CENTRE – is big – both sides of Marine Drive near the Lions Gate Bridge. There is a Whole Foods in their outdoor ‘village’.

• CAPILANO SUPSENSION BRIDGE is a popular tourist attraction…. for good reason.

• GROUSE MOUNTAIN – has a gondola that goes up to the ski area (has other attractions beside skiing).

• ‘THE GRIND’ - For a real work-out is ‘The Grind’ on Grouse Mountain – a trail that parallels the gondola up to the top – have to be relatively fit.

• HOLLYBURN MOUNTAIN – Our house is at the base of it. Another ski area. Can drive up then hike around.

• GRANVILLE ISLAND – A big tourist attraction is its market

• STANLEY PARK – lots there: restaurants, 10km seawall for hiking or biking (can rent bikes), aquarium, outdoor pools

• WHISTLER is only a 1 hour or so drive – lots going on up there.

• HORSESHOE BAY is a few miles west. Terminus for ferries to Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast and Bowen Island. A trip to Bowen is a practical outing. Can go as a foot passenger, have lunch in the village – ferry ride is just 20 minutes.

• WHALE WATCHING - Also at Horseshoe Bay is Sewell’s marina where you can take a ‘Sea Safari’ - see: http://www.sewellsmarina.com/safari.html . In Horseshoe Bay is the Ferry terminal to Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast and Bowen Island.

• FLOAT PLANES AND HELICOPTER base are downtown. Can get to places in a half hour that otherwise would take a day.

• LONSDALE QUAY is a public market on the water in North Vancouver

Paradise in West Van!

5 of 5
Submitted: October 14, 2012 Stayed: September 2012
Spent the week in the absolute comfort of this artist's masterpiece. The photos of this home do not even do it justice. From the yard, to the furnishings, to the artwork. This home is way better than any downtown hotel or condo. The owners are a complete pleasure to plan your trip to Vancouver with, from all of my requests and needs taken care of prior to arrival to being available for questions during my stay. The home is first class. Very comfortable. I spent my days by their pool, evenings cooking in their beautiful kitchen and afternoons by the fireplace. If you are looking for a getaway close to all Vancouver's top destinations but out of the craziness of the city- this is it!

West Vancouver home

We had a wonderful time visiting Vancouver and really enjoyed our stay in this lovely home. The owner was very helpful in asking all our questions and the home was perfectly located for us as we wanted to stay in West Vancouver--a short walk to Dundarave which had restaurants and shops. The home has lots of space so everyone can have privacy. There is large table for a group to eat together and enjoy themselves. Would highly recommend.
