The Shipyard Condos are located steps from the famed Mallory Square sunsets, and Ft. Zachary Tayler Beach. The Green Parrot Bar (oldest blues bar in America) & Duval Street are only a block and a half away.

We have been coming to Key West as a family for over fifteen years. Our favorite times are often spent on the water kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, and just messing around on our boat.

After spending years of living in a second story Shipyard unit (VRBO73629), my mother wanted a first floor garden style unit for ease of access. It has the added advantage of allowing her to have outside dinner parties for up to ten people which she enjoys immensely. She will spend her winters here and her summers in New England. It will be available to discerning visitors for the rest of the year.
I bought the condo in August of 2012. It was totally renovated in October of 2012 with a new kitchen, bath, moldings, window treatments, paint, furniture, linens, etc. The deck was replaced and expanded, and the garden nicely landscaped. It came with five beautiful palms which rustle softly in the wind in the evenings. A picturesque bougainvillea provides privacy and color to the back border fence.
-Location! Near Duval, Ft Zachary Park and beach, Mallory Square
-Fully stocked unit with plenty of towels, great kitchen
-Secure complex with gate
-Assigned parking spot
-Nice pool, well maintained grounds for the complex
-If you have a small child, no kids allowed in pool even with swim diaper
-Lots of people around and units are close together. Not very private
-The patio is very nice, but covered nearly completely so very little sun (good for the summer, less so for the fall where it was cool)
Overall, great time! We would definitely come back and recommend to others.
This was our 4th time visiting the island in 5 years. In the past, we've been on Front Street which made us very close to all of our favorite places (Sloppy Joes, Irish Kevin's, A&B Lobster House, Two Friends, etc.). We were quite a walk from these places this year but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. We were able to find some new favorite places (Blue Heaven, Green Parrot, Willie T's, Fort Zachary, etc.) which were all within a few blocks of the condo.
Overall, our experience was good. I thought the pictures posted didn't do the condo justice - it was very nice in person. Great kitchen with full sized fridge & freezer (with a very quick ice maker!), a dishwasher and any items you may need during your stay (can coozies, bottle opener, small insulated cooler, ziplock bags). The washer and dryer were great to have, too.
The beds & pillows were fairly uncomfortable (the twin beds worse than the queen). We had asked for the twins to be made in to a king but this required follow up to the management company once we arrived. It was promptly fixed and there were no other issues. The provided towels were great - very soft and clean. Beach towels were provided also which was appreciated.
The fact that we didn't need a hard key to get in the unit was nice (one less thing to keep track of). The unit was about halfway back in the complex so even though the complex itself is not too far from Duval, it's another block or so to get to the actual unit.
Not a reflection on the unit itself but I do wish there was a place to get groceries nearby. We ended up running to Walgreens a few times to get the basics, but it was still a decent walk (especially with bags of food & beverages). There were a couple nearby liquor stores, which was nice.
Bob was great to work with also - very prompt in returning messages from the time of booking to the time of arrival. He also listened to the other reviewers and added more mirrors to the unit. There was a full sized mirror on the back of each bedroom door and a separate mirror in the twin bedroom. This helped immensely with 4 adults getting ready for the day - thank you! :)
My husband and I were on a short vacation with my parents. We looked for hours before settling on this condo. The house is exactly as described and shown in the pictures. The location is awesome. It was very convenient to all the islands hot spots. The garden is fantastic and the unit is right on the pool. The condo was very quiet at night, and all of the beds were very comfortable.
Traffic and parking on the island aren't fun. The parking space is KEY! We also loved that the unit is inside a gated community. You really will love parking the car and walking the island. We also rented bikes for seeing the whole island.
After booking, we were still in communication with Bob. All communication was timely and very kind. Once our arrival date came, he put us in touch with the local property management company. Each person was very easy to contact and was extremely kind. We never felt as if we were a bother the anyone.
The unit was very clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend renting this unit. I hope the dates I travel are always available! We will stay again! Thank you for a great trip!
The condo was very convenient to everything. We parked the car upon our arrival and only used it sparingly, being able to walk to the restaurants, bars and harbor. The unit was very clean and comfortable.
The only draw back is the one bathroom, but as the pool house is only a short walk away, it was not much of a problem. I would definitely stay here again.
This location is great. My family had a great time. Walking distance to everything. Pool is steps away. Parking stall is steps away. Garbage is close so your not hauling it far. Large deck. A full length mirror would be nice. Very clean. We will stay there again. The whole complex is great.
We had such an amazing time staying here! I would recommend this condo to everyone. It was very clean and at a great location! Absolutely the best place we stayed during our week driving the Keys. The back patio opens up just steps from the pool, walking distance to just about everything you need! We will be staying here again for sure.
My only suggestion would be to add some mirrors. With only 1 bathroom it would be nice to have mirrors hanging in the bedrooms or maybe above the desk in the living room. There was one additional mirror by the front door, but not very convenient when getting ready. We had 4 adults and sharing just the one bathroom, it took a while to get ready when heading out for the evening. That being my only suggestion, I'd give this place and the owners 5+ stars.
Garden Oasis is close to the association's heated pool for quick dips. The development is ideally located steps from Mallory Square sunsets, or the Green Parrot Bar, and Fort Zachary Tayler Park Beach. Famed Blue Heaven Restaurant is a block away.
