When vacationing it is nice to be surprised to find that the place you chose is nicer than the description or pictures could show. This is that house! We travel a lot and know what we like when we rent a house so we have used our experiences to make sure that you will find everything you need in a fresh clean home. We have been renting houses and cottages for over 10 years so this is not somebody's basement or 'extra income' homes. We also maintain our house ourself and do not hire out the cleaning to a company. Since this is a new rental and renovated we don't have many reviews but if you look at our other cottage that we rent on Silver Lake you will see the top reviews that we always get. (347432) Our Market in Downtown Traverse City (Burritt's Fresh Market) is also rated as the one of the top specialty markets in Michigan and you can go to our website to see the quality of our market. I mention this to show the care, quality and cleanliness that we instill in all of our ventures. New carpeting, total repainting, new bedding, and fully equipped kitchen is only the beginning of this home. You will find the ageless brick style home has many waterfront windows and a huge deck off the dining room that has steps leading to the water. There are 2 bedrooms on the main level and the master has its own full bathroom and walk in closet. The second bath on the main level is also a full bath. The kitchen is large and has a breakfast bar. Off the kitchen there is a full laundry room so no leaving the property to wash a load of laundry if needed. The living room is comfortable for an evening read or just to sit and talk about the next days events. Heading downstairs to the full walkout lower level you will find a huge entertainment room that is 40 foot long with things to do if you want a break from the sun or for evening fun. There is also another 3/4 bath and bedroom with bunk beds for the kids. The walkout is open and bright and opens to the lake so it is easy access from the water. The house sits on a large 150+ft long waterfront which has an sandy beach area and a nice fire pit to have those evening star watching, s'more roasting and wine sipping end to a great day on the water. More Pictures Soon.... We have finished renovations and it is fresh and ready for rent.
My wife and I have lived on Silver Lake since 1992. We own and operate a specialty fresh market (Burritt's Fresh Market) in Traverse City which we opened in 1987. We enjoy traveling both near and far and have rented many VRBO homes, so we know what people want in a vacation rental. When this beautiful home came up for sale we knew it was perfect for VRBO, and since it was right across the lake from our home we knew we would be available if renters had any questions. Our two children and two Labradors have enjoyed living and playing on this all sports lake, and we have appreciated the closeness to Traverse City and surrounding area.
Owner/Manager purchased this house in 2012
We bought this rental because we knew that it was on the nicest part of the lake. It is off a quiet road, next to quiet neighbors, and it has some of the best frontage. Our goal in a few years would be to sell our home across the lake move into this house. Until that time we want others to enjoy our house and the great sunsets. We will continue to upgrade and improve the property every off season.
Unbeatable sunsets and a sandy beach that is perfect for swimming or fishing plus close proximity to the bustling summer activity in Traverse City make this location fantastic and memorable.
Plenty of room in this house. Nice lake but the boat rental was a seller for our family! Good central location. About 10 minutes to TC and 35 to Dunes. The host left a nice gift basket. Be sure to go to Burretts market for the best steaks to grill!
Our stay in this lovely home was idyllic. The well maintained house has a nicely stocked kitchen which accommodated all our cooking needs to prepare food for nine people. The dining room will accommodate 8-12 utilizing both the dining table and an adjacent bar with stools.
Outdoors the lawn makes a gradual descent to the lake and the sweet little beach area. Our granddaughters loved playing in the shallow water right along the shore. The water slopes out gradually to swimming depth. The bottom is a combination of sand, mud, and slippery rocks so water shoes are beneficial, but the water is clear and lovely. Summer has been cool this year but the water temperature was pleasant--probably around 75-77.
The weather during our stay was perfect and we enjoyed spending time on the deck, at the beach and around the fire pit. There are an abundant supply of lawn chairs and they are easy to move from one area to another. There are also a number of yard games and beach toys in the little shed.
The pontoon boat was new so of course was in great condition. We took advantage of several cruises up and down the lake which was especially enjoyable shortly before sunset.
We traveled to Sleeping Bear Dunes and also to Castle Farms and enjoyed these excursions. There are tons of shops in Traverse City if shopping is part of your agenda.
Our group was three generations and the property and the surrounding area provided diverse entertainment for all of us from 6 to 70. I would heartily recommend this property for a serene and refreshing vacation.
Typically my family takes one vacation per year to a big city with lots of fast paced exploring to do. We decided to change things up this year and do a lake vacation where we could spend hours relaxing, fishing, enjoying sunset boat trips and just overall enjoying a quieter pace. We have been together 10 years but decided to get married the Friday before coming up here, so it was a bit of a honeymoon for us. I booked this home solely because it offered sleeping for 12 (we had extended family joining us) and because the owner offered a pontoon boat for rent. Had this home NOT had a pontoon boat I would not have booked here.
We received a call on Friday (we were arriving on Sunday) that the pontoon boat was broken and the owner was looking for someone to come out and fix it. That someone came out on Monday to look at the boat and it required a part that had to be ordered. It is now the end of our stay and the boat is still not repaired.
To say we were disappointed to not have the pontoon boat would be an understatement – it changed the entire trip for us. The only available watercraft was a small rowboat that leaked too badly to use. Once the owner knew the pontoon could not be fixed he brought over two single-seat kayaks. (He brought them over in HIS pontoon boat which was a bit of a slap in the face). To rent a pontoon boat from a local facility was about $400 - $450 per day. He offered to take the $500 I had paid for his pontoon boat and apply it toward a rental elsewhere; he did offer to throw in enough to pay for another day’s rental so we could have a pontoon for 2 total days. I couldn’t justify spending my $500 for only 2 days of boat rental.
My sister’s two girls (ages 9 & 12) came to sleep over one night but the single bunk beds labeled “kids only” were not fit to hold their weight. The bunk bed “mattresses” are not an actual mattress and the kids ended up needing to sleep on the floor because they were falling through the slats. The other bunk bed had 2 full-size mattresses that were better but overall the basement beds were fair at best.
On a positive note, the place was clean upon arrival and the owner had left some nice edible welcome gifts.
I sincerely wish this had been a really nice experience but it wasn’t. We had willingly saved our money for a long time to pay the week’s pricey rental fee and had such high hopes for a great vacation. None of us were able to use our fishing poles and we left a day early.
If you are looking for an up north vacation that is relaxing, clean, and on a beautiful lake, look no further. This spacious home has everything you need to have a great vacation. The sunsets are picture perfect from the patio or if your down by the fire pit. The house is full of everything you need for your vacation to be complete (kitchen utensils, ipod player, games, grill, pontoon, etc). The lake itself is quiet and clean and perfect for sunset cruises. The owners of the home are very polite and ensure you have everything you need for a vacation to remember. We are repeat customers to the owners as they have several rentals on this lake and we intend to make this an annual vacation. Thank you for everything!
There is a very nice recreation park that is walking distance from the house that has soccer, softball, tennis, basketball, walking/running track, pavilion, restrooms, hiking nature trail and other recreational activities. Don't forget your fishing equipment as Silver Lake (and many surrounding lakes) are great for catching Bass, Perch, Walleye and many other fresh water fish. Book a charter on the bays for Salmon and Lake Trout or fly fish the many blue ribbon trout streams. A short drive away would include many golf courses, sight seeing including National famous Sand Dunes. The Interlochen Arts Academy is 6 miles away and has great venues. We also have many wineries on both the Leelanau peninsula and the Old Mission peninsula. But the nicest part of the area is just relaxing and reading at the waters edge sipping on a cold beverage with your toes in the water.
