Why the Owner Chose Saint Anns Bay: Beautiful sunrises and fantastic sunsets. We enjoy the warm gentle breezes that seem to blow most of the time. We love to pick fresh fruit from a variety of fruit trees on the property in season and growing fresh vegetables in our garden. We love swimming long laps in our 40 'x 25' private pool. We like being close to world famous Dunn's River falls which we have climbed many times and having all the other attractions nearby. We love river bathing and tubing the river in our own large inner tubes, so much fun. We love a long stroll on the sandy beaches nearby. We enjoy the great Jamaican food at the Jerk centers nearby. I guess most of all we enjoy the tranquil setting at Rose Apple and the beautiful ocean and mountain views. Come and see us, we would love the opportunity to share our many wonderful experiences with you.
The Unique Benefits of this House: The most unique benefit our guest enjoy at Rose Apple Villa, is the privacy, peace and tranquility the estate provides. Our guest are not confined to a crowded resort cramped in small quarters. Our guest enjoy free fruits and vegetables in season.
After many years of traveling and living around the world before having kids, this was our first time traveling with the kids. They'd been on vacations before (i.e., Disney, all-inclusives, US vacation rentals, etc.), but this was the first time they'd travel like we used to--living like and with locals, visiting places off the beaten path, absorbing culture. Rose Apple Villa was the perfect home base for us and our trip was amazing! Our kids are 6 and 8. They loved exploring the beautiful property (my son became quite adept at climbing coconut trees...), visiting with the neighbor's pigs and bunnies, hanging out with the dogs, swimming in that massive pool! Even homework was more fun on the veranda with the fantastic view. We all fell in love with Jacquie and happily took advantage of the cooking option- she is an amazing cook! My son would take one bite of food, then run into the kitchen and hug her and tell her he loved her (which is saying a lot, because his biggest concern on this trip was "someone who couldn't cook as good as mom"). We had so much fun shopping for ingredients in the local specialty markets with her, the house was immaculate despite all the in and out we did, she did our laundry (!!) and she braided my daughter's hair so we didn't have to get it done in the market. I wish we had Jacquie at home! It was a real treat. Wayland was lovely and took care of everything we needed him to - we visited during a drought, so water deliveries were necessary (and satellite service calls because the water guys knocked the wires out). Everything was taken care of while we were out with only minor inconvenience. Kirk drove us not just to local places (i.e., grocery store, internet cafe, Chukka Adventures), but all over the island--to YS Falls, Alligator Pond (Little Ochie's is all it's cracked up to be!), Kingston, Port Antonio, even a local orphanage so we could visit and our kids could help out. He's a superb driver (those roads in the mountains are nuts!), has a killer reggae collection, answered all 10,000 questions we asked, his rates were totally reasonable and he's just a really nice guy. We sorta fell into going to Jamaica after a trip to Puerto Rico didn't work out and we all feel so lucky things ended up this way and that we found Rose Apple Villa. This was the perfect introduction to travel for our kids and we were both amazed with how much Jamaica had to offer those who wanted a true travel/culture experience as opposed to the resort stuff.
If you are looking for a place away from all the tourists, this villa is wonderful. We were 6 adults and 3 kids and there was plenty of space for everyone. Walen met us at the airport and transported all of us to the villa, great host. The property is in the hills away from the hustle and bustle and was very relaxing. Walen had the use of a van so was able to transport us wherever we wanted to go. The property surrounding the villa was beautiful and we watched many sunsets from the veranda. Jacquie was on hand to cook our meals on the nights we didn't feel like going out. Another wonderful addition to the trip, she was friendly and happy to do whatever we needed. The pool was well used and very clean! All in all, this was a great trip for everyone.
Rose Apple villa is the perfect base if you want a quiet retreat for excursions to see the real Jamaica. If you’re looking for a sanitized, luxury all-inclusive then look elsewhere! But if you want a comfortable, immaculate home to be your retreat from the hustle and bustle of the island, you’ve found it! While portions of the grounds are still under construction at the time of our visit (such as changing rooms at the pool and an additional suite in the downstairs portion of the home) everything is tidy and well maintained.
Families of small children will appreciate the fact that the pool is separated from the house by at least 30 ft up a short hill. Security is excellent. It doesn’t get much more rural feeling than this-with 5 acres of mature fruit trees around the property, we got a much better sense of what life was like in rural areas.
We opted to have Jackie cook our dinners each night and tidy up as time allowed. Coming home to an authentic (and delicious!) Jamaican meal was really quite a treat. Jackie is quiet, unobtrusive and happy to share her own knowledge of the island. We fell in love with her! We also negotiated with Walen to rent a van and have him drive us around the island. With over 30 years experience in Jamaica, he can answer even the silliest question and his laid back attitude is perfectly suited for dealing with the crazy driving that is par for the course. It was this dynamic duo that really MADE our whole trip! Jackie and Walen were a team that allowed us the type of daily experiences that people in the resorts had to pay for on tours! We are now completely spoiled for all other vacations!
I'll be recommending Walen and Rose Apple to everyone I meet!
Two of my girlfriends and I went to Jamaica in April and stayed at the Rose Apple Villa. The property
is exactly as described. The house is very modern with two large bedrooms, each with a bathroom
and walk-in closet. There is also another bath off the living room. The living room and kitchen is joined with verandes on the front and back of house. We sat and watched some beautiful sunsets from the back verande. It is also equipped with a washer and dryer so don't over-pack.
The pool is big and beautiful. We were able to see the cruise ships go by from the pool. The
others have some big plans for the pool area. The grounds are neatly kept with lots of fruit
trees that will be shared with guests. The grounds are still a work in progress.
We had a driver pick us up in Montego Bay and bring us to Rose Apple in St. Annes Bay which is
only about ten minutes from Ocho Rios. He was available to take us whenever we were ready. We
shopped in Ocho Rios, and shopped the local crafts market where the locals sell their wares. This
is a shopping trip you must experience.
We ate at the local grills (jerk chicken) and went to Margaritaville a couple of times. That was
a fun time. We also had dinner at a nice seafood restaurant. The food was really good.
We went to the beach and enjoyed the beautiful water and white sands. Our favorite was Dunn's
River Falls where you actually climb up the falls. We only went for an afternoon but regretted that
we did not spend the day there. They have a beach area and food huts. By spending the day, you
could climb the falls more than once.
We learned so much about Jamaica and it's people who we found to be very friendly and willing to answer any questions we had.
So if you are needing a vacation where you can relax and have plenty of peace and quite, then
book your week at the Rose Apply Villa.
This was a vacation of a lifetime. The view from the villa is magnificent. From the pool you can see the ocean. It was so quiet and serene, much better than staying in a crowded hotel. Our tour guide was great and we saw beautiful scenery. It was great to mingle with the people of Jamaica and learn about their culture and eat their food. I would definitely like to return someday soon.
This is such an unusally beautiful place. It far exceeded what is to be expected. The driver gave us a great tour and told us all about Jamacia. There was much more. You should expierence for yourself.
Secluded and hidden away from the everyday hustle & bustle but, only a few minutes drive to Ocho Rios town center for shopping, craft markets, restaurants and nightclubs. 5 minutes to world famous Dunn's River Falls, Dolphin Cove, Chucka Cove & Jamaica's newest attraction Mistic Mountain. Rose Apple is especially for those who love their privacy and space but, close to all the action Ocho Rios to Montego Bay has to offer or, just take a break and get away from it all.
Other Activities: shopping, kayaking, boating, parasailing, horseshoes
