Overview

Lancaster House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Enjoy a relaxing stay at our A-Frame house located at Sickman's Mill. You will have access to the creek and campground for campfires (fire ring and firewood provided), fishing, creek swimming, kayaking, canoeing (equipment not provided) or enjoy a relaxing tube ride down the Pequea Creek from our on-site tubing business ($8 per person June-Aug).

Our guests often see great blue herons, minks, hawks and the occasional bald eagle. History lovers will enjoy the view of our 4 story stone grist mill. We typically allow our guests to explore the inside of the mill to see our ongoing restoration effort.

Since we only let scouts and church groups camp, there are usually no campers, so you typically get the whole place to yourself!

During summer weekends, there are tubers during the day but they are gone by around 6:00 PM leaving a quiet peaceful setting.

Take a left out of our drive way and the Frogtown Cafe is two minutes away, a country pub that is family friendly. A right out of our drive way will take you to the Conestoga Wagon restaurant where they have great food, convenience store and gas station.

We are 20 minutes drive, (through country back roads) to Rockvale Square Outlets, Sight and Sound Theater, and Dutch Wonderland. Hershey Park is about 1 hour away. Philadelphia 1.5 hours. Gettysburg 2 hours

No parties allowed, anyone throwing a party on the premises will be asked to leave. Any additional day or night guests must have prior approval.

Cable TV and wireless internet included.

The first floor contains a large rec room containing a queen sleeper sofa and futon, a separate bedroom with queen size bed and TV, large laundry room, and a full bath (shower).

The second floor contains a living room with TV VCR and DVD, kitchen, full bath (tub and shower), and bedroom containing a twin bed and a full/twin bunk bed.

The third floor consists of a private bedroom with queen size bed and TV, and a loft overlooking the living room.

Two large decks allow you to enjoy the view of the campground, historic grist mill and the Pequea creek.

Sorry, but not good.

  • 1 of 5

We arrived to a cold house and they knew I was bringing my elderly father that is on hospice care. When we turned the furnace on ,the smoke alarm started to go off and wouldn't stop. Called the owner and were told to wait a few minutes and it should go off, it does that all the time she said. No call back , but the next morning I was sent an email, which I didn't receive until later in the day because my phone had no signal. We were offered , through email , to have someone come clean the furnace. It was unseasonably cold. We did not want that done while we were supposed to be relaxing.

It was also dirty. The windows were all filthy, bugs and cobwebs everywhere. Had to clean the toaster to use it. My husband stepped on a nail sticking up on the 3rd step going downstairs. No light by the bed on 2nd floor and the ceiling light was a cross the room behind the door. Showed an ice machine in refrige in ad , was a totally different refrigerator , which would have been no big deal but the ice maker didn't work.

More light was needed at the keypad as we arrived after dark.

Fire extinguishers should be put in handy places not in a closet.

I don't mean to be so critical , but for what we paid , it was very disappointing .

I just hope they care enough to correct these issues. We will not be returning and we use VRBO all the time. Have had any issues in the past.

The bed in the basement bedroom was very comfortable. Was very cold in basement even with the heaters all running.

Light switch in basement bedroom doesn't even have a cover on it, that is not safe.

I thought these places had to be inspected for fire safety and such?

I am really sorry, but this was the worst place we've ever stayed in many years using VRBO.

Owner's Response: We were so thankful that you alerted us to the furnace issue. Although, I believe there was a misunderstanding. My friend that does our cleaning was thankfully sitting with me when I received the call, and she overheard the conversation, and said, 'Oh, did I tell you it started doing that; it only lasts a couple of minutes right when you turn it on.' I passed this information along to your husband, and asked him to please call me if it continued to be a problem. We like to fix problems as soon as we are aware of them. We respected your request to wait until after your departure to have it checked; and had it corrected the following day. Trying to remedy problems that we are alerted to is also the reason that we have a new refrigerator, new coffee maker and newer sofas than in our original pictures. While the old picture did show a refrigerator with an ice machine, our listing specifics do not list having an ice maker in the refrigerator. The home is an older 1970s home with all of the quirks of that era including the poor placement of light switches. Unfortunately, the windows are original to the home and have clouded between the glass over time. While we wish we could replace them, it will not be in the budget for years to come. We do try to upgrade something each year, as most of our repeat guests recognize and comment on. Some problems arise over time due to the high volume of guests that are not careful with rental properties. We were not aware of the missing switch plate, or the raised nail but have corrected it. We did have a light between the beds in the 2nd floor, but removed it after it was repeatedly knocked over and broken by kids using the room. We have the home treated quarterly for stinkbugs, ants, etc. and haven't noticed a problem with bugs in the past couple years. However, the home is in a wooded area in the country so perhaps while it seems great to us, you may have a different perspective.

Bro Weekend

  • 5 of 5

COuldnt have asked for a better place for our weekend. We had 6 guys and it can sleep more if need be but we all had more than enough room. Great layout of both the home and the property. Lots of great places for pictures and fun.We will be going back next year. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a central PA location thats quiet and has all the amenities.

Father / Son Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time on our annual Father / Son weekend. Despite the extremely cold weather we still had a camp fire outside in the fire ring. The A frame cotage has plenty of room and was very clean. There is also plenty of outdoor property to roam and walk. The view of the creek from the house was beautiful. The area where the house is located had nice places to visit, such as Amish grocery stores and Pennsylvania Dutch Restaurants. We had a great time and will likely visit again.

Girls' Get Away

  • 5 of 5

A group of friends from high school stayed at Sickman's Mill on a cold, cold January weekend. We never left the house but still had the best time. The house was so cozy and comfortable. We can't wait to come back in warmer weather so we can get out and explore.

Great weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the A Frame and it was better than the first. The house had a few new updates (in kitchen and bathrooms) which were nice. The owner has always been a pleasure to work with. The location is peaceful with the creek adding a nice backdrop. The use of the firewood and fire rings were an added bonus. Looking forward to our next stay!

Notes:
The A-Frame is located at the Sickman's Mill Campground. We have greatly restricted our camping; we typically only have 2 boy scout groups per summer. You will have access to the campground and Pequea creek for fishing, kayaking or canoeing (bring your own equipment, canoes, kayaks) or enjoy a relaxing tube ride down the Pequea creek with our on-site tubing business ($8 per person). History lovers will enjoy the view of the historic grist mill located on the property.
