Pisgah Forest National Forest: The Davidson River trailhead is perhaps the most popular area for mountain bikers, hikers, rock climbers, fly fishers, and waterfall photographers. Pisgah's greatest back country and wilderness areas can be accessed from the area as well.

Dupont State Forest: Offers nearly 100 miles of recreational trails traveling to several unique waterfalls, pristine lakes, and other attractions. Some trails pass over large expanses of solid rock on large granite domes. Nearly all trails are multi-use (biking, hiking, and equestrian) and they are well signed and well marked.

Centrally located in the heart of hiking, kayaking, mountain biking and cycling country, we are happy to provide information to you about the area and activites available. Also, we will have a bike washing station outside the walk-out basement where you can store your bikes and other outdoor equipment. There are many resources for hiking, climbing, trail riding, as well as shopping, dining, and of course lots of blue grass music!

AWESOME RETREAT

Every year for my husband's birthday we mountain biking in NC. Our favorite place is Dupont Forest. We love riding our bikes in the trails and being surprised by lakes, cascades and...beauty. This year we decided to invite our family. Fodderstack Cabin was the perfect place: close to the trails, close to Brevard and its amazing restaurants. The cabin was cozy and every detail spoke of the care and love of their owners. The antiques are unbelievable. My dad never left the cabin. He loved it!

A perfect abode

My friends and I came to Brevard over the weekend for a mountain biking trip. While the weather did not quite cooperate, everything in the home was completely hospitable! We found the bike cleaning station to be invaluable, considering how much mud we had accumulated on our steeds. The animals were a treat to watch in the morning. The bedrooms were rustically appointed, and the lighting in the house is charming.

We particularly loved the kitchen, which was cozy and had really neat fasteners and drawers with nice modern touches for appliances.

All in all, we have stayed in over a dozen different NC mountain cabins for bike trips over the last few years and this one is easily in the top 3. We can't wait to come here again!

Beyond Expectations!

What a treasure! Fodderstack Cabin is indeed an charming and comfortable place to retreat near Brevard, NC. The drive through the winding mountain roads and scenic pastures is just a prelude to what is waiting as you! The pictures online give a great representation of what you will find. It is evident that the owner has given a lot of thought and love to the details and design of the cabin. It is as if you are walking in to a magazine layout! The cabin was immaculately clean and all the convenience of home were available including a functional kitchen, spacious dinning area, and laundry room with a new washer and dryer. Renee, the owner, was very gracious and delightful to work with. I look forward to future stays at Fodderstack Cabin as I visit my son at Brevard College.
...p.s. A stay in a converted barn would not be complete without farm animals! Sheep in the pasture and chickens out back were icing on the cake! Renee, is doing well in tending her little plot of Heaven on Earth!

Cozy mountain get-away

So unique, so very charming! The linens, pillows, beds, towels are ultimate quality. It has obviously been professionally decorated with treasures procured from many wonderful sources. We loved watching the sheep and how they went to their shed during the rain and the night. The chickens have a door with a solar sensor shutting/opening system; we sat in the cute green chairs waiting for the sunset and the doors to set! The large dining room easily accommodated all of us.
Count on us returning whenever we can! It is a fabulous home away from home.

"This house rocks. It is clean, beautifully decorated, and well furnished. There are plenty of places to spread out or congregate as desired. It is ideally situated near the Pisgah National Forest which has 400 miles of hiking trails and in a County with over 250 waterfalls. It is also close to all things the Blue Ridge has to offer. It is appropriate for families, adventure seekers, and girls getaways. It is a very private and peaceful escape. The owner, Renee, is a dream to work with."
