The cottage sits on 100’ of sandy bottomed lakefront property. There is also a sandy beach play area. Our lot is quite large with many hardwood trees giving it an up north feel.
There is a free public boat launch on the lake and mooring available at our dock. Renters may also have free use of our 12’ aluminum rowboat with oars and our two kayaks. The shoreline has many stretches of vacant land making the lake very peaceful with little activity
Long Lake is one of the top five cleanest lakes in Michigan. It is a clear, natural spring fed lake which often takes on a turquoise blue hue making visitors feel like they are in the Caribbean. Long Lake is home to loons, blue herons and an occasional bald eagle. Fish inhabiting the lake include trout, blue gill, walleye, perch and small and large mouth bass. The following website has an interactive lake map and fishing information: fishweb.com/maps/montmorency/longlake/index.html
Golfers will be greatly impressed with the quality of local golf courses. Two premiere courses include Thunder Bay Golf Resort just 10 minutes away and to the north of us Black Lake.. Elk Ridge in Atlanta is not far, either. Golfers can play a different course each day and never drive over 40 minutes.
The Thunder Bay Golf Resort is also home to a large elk herd. Elk can be observed during all seasons. During the winter months patrons can go on horse drawn elk viewing sleigh rides to a cabin in the woods for a fantastic dinner.
The historical town of Alpena is only 45 minutes away. Visitors can attend one of many summer festivals, walk around the harbor and marina or visit the National Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.
Other attractions include Ocqueoc Falls which is the Lower Peninsula’s only waterfall. Those who want a broader fishing experience might like the well-known Fletcher’s Floodwaters or Hubbard Lake.
Sports enthusiast will also enjoy snowmobiling on state trails in the area. The state trails are only 3 miles away and accessible by back trails. The state trail network connects to all of Lower Michigan. Ice fishing is another popular winter activity on the lake.

About Art/Cathy Black
We purchased another cottage on the other side of the lake 13 years ago. Our family of 5 fell in love with the lake and area. We have so many wonderful memories of great family time which includes campfires, hikes, water sports, and winter activities. As our children grew older we found we weren't using our cottage as much and we began sharing it with friends and family. There was such an interest that we recently purchased this cute cottage last summer. We have just finished remodeling it and we are ready to share our place with others!

Guestbook comments from the owner
Dear Art and Cathy,
What a great week away from all the hustle and bustle of it all! The cottage is so cute and we still can't get over how beautiful the lake is. We've had campfires and s'mores every night. We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary on the 4th, so this has been a great time to be away. Our daughter (4 ) has loved making sand castles for her Barbie princess and has been in the water despite cooler temps! We loved seeing and hearing the loons and made a stop last night to see the elk- very cool.
Thanks again for everything!
