Well maintained and equipped, this classic Captiva cottage style house sleeps 6

Experience the laid back, easy Captiva Island lifestyle with this classic 2 bedroom, 2 full bath cottage with no stairs to deal with. This is an extremely easy home to entertain children.

Its private, secluded, 26x14 ft heated pool is just off the double French doors of the living room. The Mermaid Home may be called a cottage, but this house is as well updated and equipped as a new luxury home.

**** NOTE! We're heavily booked this season. If our always updated calendar shows your date preference is already reserved, send us a request for suggestions. With a Florida Realtor's license, and extensive knowledge of the Captiva rental inventory, we'll respond with available Captiva homes we know and trust. Perhaps our Sun & Moon, also on this site, is available. ****

Included is a 42' HDTV, a 6 disc CD player with large music selection, i-Pod docking to our 100 watt Onkyo receiver and Bose inside and Yamaha outside pool speakers. Wireless Internet is in place.

The master bedroom has a King bed with LCD TV and i-Pod dock and a master bath with step down shower large unoung for two and is equipped with 2 shower heads. The guest bedroom is twin equipped and has an LVD TV woth DVD and i-Pid dock. The hall way full bath services this room.

The kitchen is fully equipped with Ice making refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffee and espresso machines and all utensils. A weber gas grill is outside the kitchen and pool area. A washer and dryer is provided in the adjacent laundry room.

The adjacent open dining area has a table for 4 and stools at the kitchen bar for 2 more.

7-speed bicycles are included along with a handy beach cart to haul all the beach chairs, umbrellas, cooler, beach toys and beach towels to the beach

The grounds are covered with many varieties of tropical flowering plants, the beach is a short two minute walk and the docks of the bay are even closer. Captiva's charming village center is a five minute walk.

Personally Maintained by the owners: This home is one of the very few Captiva rental houses not managed by a management company. We personally supervise and assist our cleaning staff each Saturday. As the last to walk out the door prior to your arrival, we can assure you the Mermaid Home is one of the most immaculate and best prepared homes on Captiva, both inside and outside.

We have been in the Captiva vacation home rental business since 1998 and personally maintain and manage our properties. The Mermaid House was our first, and we've kept it fresh and always doing something new to please guests every year. We're the last to leave the house before you arrive, so we know it is prepared perfectly for your arrival.

This is one of the few remaining classic Captiva cottage style houses offering the charm of 'Olde Florida', but with all the updates and conveniences of newer homes. It is one of the last ground level homes built (1976), as all homes built from 1978 required the living area to be built on pilings requiring stairs to enter..

What makes this house unique

The pool on the same level of the house with no stairs to deal with make entertaining all family members quite easy. Further, the location on a small, quiet street is close to beach, bay, Chapel by the Sea, Captiva Library and the village center with an easy walk to all.

    A $500 per week advance payment by Visa, M/C, Discover or Amex credit card will hold a weekly reservation. The payment balance is due 60 days prior to scheduled arrival. Final payment only may be by credit card or personal check. 11% Florida state and hotel tax is applicable.

    Note: Fall special rate of $1,595 is valid for up to 4 guests. 5-6 guest occupancy requires use normal off-season rate of $1,995 per week

    Cancellation allowed up to 60 days prior to scheduled arrival with full advance payment refund.

    No refunds are given for cancellation within 60 days of scheduled arrival or after final payment is made unless home is re-booked for that period. We suggest our available travel insurance to cover cancellations due to health or weather related issues.

Amazing trip!

We have been visiting Sanibel & Captiva Island for many years & love it. This was by far the best trip yet! We have twin 5 year old daughters & a 6 year old son~ the set up was absolutly perfect for swimming kids! Our kids were able to wake up early & get to swimming (usually by 8am!). We walked a short 4 min to the beach during the afternoon for some beach time, then back to the pool. It is in great walking distance to the "city" of Captiva. Many resturaunts, coffee places, shops, & ice cream just blocks away! We had an AMAZING trip~ cannot wait to go back!
Owner's Response: We're pleased our Mermaid Home helped provide Katie's family their "best trip yet". Perhaps it is the preservation of a classic Captiva cottage style house, the amenities and preparation we provide, or just the continued lure of Captiva as a tropical, Carribbean style island that makes all this come together.

Mermaid House exceeded our expectations. Your home is beautifully appointed, ideally located and offers all the amentities for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. The heated pooled was relaxing especially for an early morning swim.
With just a short walk to the beach, we enjoyed watching the shore birds, dolphins and pelicans just off shore. Anyone who likes combing the beach for seashells will be well compensated. With the cart, beach chairs and umbrella provided, we were able to relax and enjoy the seaside.
We look forward to staying at Mermaid House again!

The Mermaid House was clean, comfortable and well equipped. My husband was impressed with the quality of the sound system, my three children were impressed with the pool and I was thrilled. The location is perfect, a two minute walk to the beach. The owner of this house keeps the house meticulously. He also provided great recommendations for restaurants and activities. The rental has bicycles and you can bike anywhere on the island!! We will definitely return.

Perfect location, great cottage, wonderful pool

We just returned from a week at the Mermaid House and it was perfect for us. Clean and comfortable. Very comfortable beds with high thread count sheets. Attention to detail evident everywhere. Kitchen is well equipped. Throughout the house, that was true as well. Everything you need as well as some things you would never have thought of, is there for you. We spent our mornings at the beach shelling and fishing and the afternoons were by the pool. Pool area is amazing and the screened covering kept bugs and other crawling creatures outside where they belong. Another plus was that the pool is partly shaded most of the day, keeping it comfortably temperate. We were rarely inside the house. Booking was easy and the owners were great to work with. I highly recommend this property.

Loved the Mermaid House

Just a brief note to thank you for helping us have a most enjoyable time on our vacation. We just loved the Mermaid House. It is so us! All the amenities were well appreciated and your attention to detail was well noted by both of us.

I smiled as soon as I opened the car door and heard Adele playing as requested. We loved the beach and your beach cart was so cool. What a fabulous little thought to even make the stroll to the beach better.

Then the bikes-I must mention that I have not been on a bicycle for 50 years and was looking forward to giving it a shot-then when my husband said there were flats that didn't hold air I was disappointed-then he said you were going to bring another-I wasn't counting on that but when we came back from the beach...there they were! The next morning we got out the bikes-it was like I was 11 years old again-a bit shaky at first but before you knew it we were riding to the island store for beer and wine-these were necessities I might add.

Everything was so nice and well thought out-it is seldom seen these days and I just wanted to let you know we appreciated that you cared about the fine details.
