Our recent trip to NYC was made perfect by our choice to stay at this charming property. What a delightful home complete with comfortable furnishings, everything one could need for their stay, a little slice of "country" in the beautiful garden, and homemade cake upon arrival!! Wait, did I mention that there are two full baths in this apartment?!? You will find the home clean, well maintained, filled with lovely pieces, and sprinkled with whimsy. Oh, my…who could ask for more?!?!
The apartment is centrally located within a short walk to Starbucks, a grocery/convenience store, a laundry service, the subway, and quaint eateries to meet the taste of virtually everyone. We loved walking about the neighborhood and having a sense of really being a part of the city, versus simply a guest at a hotel.
Should you continue to have a doubt about booking this property, let me simply say that you will not find a more welcoming hostess!!! Joan greeted us upon our arrival (which was quite late at night!!) with the warmth of a long lost friend. Her grace, charm, and humor will make you feel as if you have known her your entire life. All the while, Joan is absolutely professional in all correspondences, answers questions in a very timely fashion, and makes every attempt to ensure your stay is all that you could wish for….
We will be back ~ frankly, I sorely wish we did not have to leave!!!!
We had a wonderful time staying here. I was in New York with 3 children and the owner was so gracious and helpful. She was available for advise and gave a detailed first tour through the home so I was very comfortable with where things were. Yes, we all enjoyed the cake upon arrival but having a large, clean apartment with 2 bathrooms was really the best. The pull out sofa in the living room was perfect for my teenager and it was no trouble to pull out and put away. Joan also shipped some things I forgot to take with me after we had left. That is really going above and beyond. The apartment was not dark at all, it is full of light and the garden space was delightful even though we didn't use it too much because after being out in the city we wanted some "down" time inside. I can't say enough good things. Do not hesitate to book here. Having a large park with a playground just one city block away was good for us too. We took the 79 crosstown bus to Central Park and to the American Museum of Natural History, it was no problem. We did walk quite a bit around the Upper East Side, but generally would just take a taxi if going far. There is a corner grocery shop just two doors down as well. That came in handy. And, I loved being on the ground floor!
On our recent visit to NY my husband and I occupied Joan's lovely apartment for one week and can only repeat the complimentary reviews.
The apt was very clean and comfortable - roomier than most in NY - and Joan was an absolute delight, promptly answering any questions I had. We have rented many apts over the years and there are always certain items I pack that many times are not provided. In this case there was absolutely nothing lacking.
The area is very nice - less than a half block from York - mostly residential and very quiet. After a day of sightseeing it was always nice to return to this lovely retreat. The location was perfect for us as we were visiting relatives only seven blocks away.
Although the cab fare into midtown can sometimes be a little expensive, there is easy access to the bus and subway. There are also numerous restaurants, grocery stores, etc. within walking distance.
There is also a lovely park one block away with a children's recreation area, dog park and many benches overlooking the river. Since my very first visit to NY I cease to be amazed at the multitude of parks located in the midst of millions of people and yet there is always a feeling of calm when you enter any one of them.
Unlike most absentee landlords, Joan was there to greet us upon our arrival along with the aroma of her freshly baked chocolate cake. Other than the family members we visited we know absolutely no one in NY, however, after meeting Joan I truly feel we have discovered a new friend.
Not certain as to when we will return to NY, but rest assured we will be very disappointed if this apartment is no longer available.
I agree 100% with the other positive reviews. You can't do better for a place to stay in NYC than this beautiful apartment. The location is convenient to Central Park and the Museum Mile on foot. It is an easy subway ride to all other sights. It is in a lovely quiet residential neighbourhood. Joan is a wonderful host - supplying everything such as towels, toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc. in abundance. She was always available and helpful in answering our questions. The bed was super comfortable, the air-conditioning was greatly appreciated, the second bathroom was a blessing for 2 people to get ready to go quickly in the morning, and the deck and garden were so lovely to sit in and relax after a day of walking around the city. I simply can't say enough about this apartment and Joan's hosting and we would stay there again in a New York minute.
We stayed at Joan's apt for 2 weeks and had a wonderful time. Her
garden is an oasis of calm and tranquility in the middle of the
that is NY. How magical to come back from a fun but exhausting day out
and about in the city to the quite recharging green of the bushes and
colors of the various flowering plants. Not to mention waking up to
the birds and starting your day with a pleasant breakfast in the
garden before charging into the city for more fun.
Joan could not have been a better host. We arrived on Memorial Day and
needed the Wifi (which unusually was on the fritz) so my son could
study. Say no more, she had someone there within the hour and got it
up and running - on a holiday!
Never did we feel like we were invading someone's space. She and her
home are so welcoming you feel completely right at home immediately.
Plenty of everything (towels, blankets, TP, etc) Very importantly, she
respects your privacy completely, but is available at all times if you
need anything, and responds quickly. She has a very well appointed kitchen with everything you need to do real cooking. With all the wonderful food shops in the
area, we enjoyed cooking for ourselves and eating in "our" garden, which
means we need to come back to try out the myriad of tempting
restaurants in the area.
The apt is well situated and close to bus and subway.
Icing on the cake: the actual yummy chocolate cakes she baked and left
for us upon our arrival! Thank you, Joan - can't wait to come back!
Took this apartment at an exorbitant rate for just a tad short of a month.
Listing description is in error. Credit card accepted...NO! I was assured in many e-mails there would be Wi-Fi...NO. Owner did not know how to work the DVD, so that was out for my use. TV very often failed to connect. Owner admitted it sometimes did that.
Beware: the owner is a hoarder. There is no space to put anything, especially if one intends to use the kitchen. For such a lengthy stay, cooking was planned. The oven was shown to me, stuffed, filled with pots and pans. Where would one put them, on the floor? Unable to use oven to cook anything. The grill in the garden, disgusting. Filthy, rusty, not useable.
It is garden apartment with no natural light. Dark as a cave.
I had a very serious family incident and had to leave before the end of my time. No effort was made to consider any kind of a resonabile. possible adjustment given the serious of the situation. Messages asking for a discussion were ignored and no effort made to discuss anything.
I would not recommend this space for longer than one day.
Near many museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
One block from Carl Shurtz Park. 5 blocks from Central Park.
Easy access to Times Square, Broadway plays, Museum of Modern Art and many other attractions.
