Fishtail Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, sleeps 4

Open and accessible all year round. Every season is as beautiful as the next. Perfect romantic weekend get-away. Owner maintains road access. The houses, barns, corrals and outbuildings are in a cluster at the center of the 450 acre Ranch. The Lake is within short walking distance. We believe the kitchen of the Cobblestone House was the original homestead, and the other rooms were added as the family grew.

The house is one level. Each bedroom has a comfy queen sized bed, a dresser and closet space. The house has one full bathroom situated between the two bedrooms. There is also a separate office with desk and chair. Bedding, towels, and pillows are provided. Horses are allowed with prior approval.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a Log Home 50 yards away also available for rental, sleeps 12.

About the Cobblestone House: : The Cobblestone offers a bit of history and a lot of relaxation. Walk anywhere you like on the 450 acre Ranch or just relax, relax, relax. On the Ranch there is a private trout lake, about eleven acres in size, several beaver ponds and three year-round live creeks. The lakes and ponds offer trout fishing to guests and is within easy walking distance for all. If river fishing is what you are after the Stillwater River is only 10 minutes drive, Rosebud Creek the same distance and the Yellowstone River is only 20 minutes drive away. Because of the abundance of water and tree cover this section of land draws wildlife of all kinds. Wildlife is often spotted walking through the Ranch, and photographic opportunities are abound!

Views, Fishing and Wildlife: : At the Ranch there are outdoor activities like walking, sightseeing, photography, swimming or fishing at the private lake. There is a dock with a picnic table if you want to pack a cooler and spend a good long time soaking up the sun and scenery. The Ranch is a short distance to spectacular hiking trails, mountain biking, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, dog sledding, snowshoeing, white water rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, the famous Beartooth Highway, Absarokee Days, historic Red Lodge and its annual rodeo and mountain man rendezvous, quaint towns with great gift shops in Absarokee and Fishtail, ATV rentals, wagon tours & sleigh rides, Stillwater Art & Wine Festival, or a day trip into Yellowstone National Park. The route to Yellowstone from the Ranch is breathtakingly beautiful, going over the Beartooth Highway to the Top of the World, then through the historic mining town of Cooke City. The Winter route to Yellowstone is through Gardiner, MT and the Paradise Valley.

About Roxanne or Lee Dunn

Lee purchased White Deer Ranch in 1989. Lee and Roxanne began managing the Ranch together in 1996. They are exploring aspects of organic and self sustained farming and ranching techniques and certification. They are also cultivating the agrotourism and farm stay experiences that the Ranch has to offer. The Ranch became organically certified for hay in 2011, and for wild harvested crops in 2014.

Roxanne or Lee Dunn purchased this farmhouse in 1989

Why Roxanne or Lee Dunn chose Fishtail

This house was restored for vacation rentals because of its historical significance to the Ranch.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Visitors can learn about the ranching operations, historical information about the homesteaders that came to this land and what it is like to live as a Montanan.

Our stay recently was great. The farm is beautiful and the owners were so kind and helpful. We all wanted to take Max ( the farm dog) home. We didn't have time to take the farm tour, but we definitely plan to go back and stay at Whitr Deer Ranch. You will not be disappointed.

Notes:
The Cobblestone House has interesting features only found in a historic farmhouse. If you would enjoy a sense of history while at the same modern conveniences, then this is the place for you. The floor makes a creaking sound when you walk on the hardwood, there is a bow in the kitchen floor as it is the oldest part of the house. There is no dishwasher, however, a drying rack and dish drying towels are provided. We love the original farm style sink which allows for the authentic experience of early Montana ranching days. We provide pellets for the decorative glass front stove, with lighting instructions, if needed. The house is all one level there is one step to come up in order to get into the house. Inside doorways may not be wide enough for some wheelchairs. Most of the sights, including the lake can be driven to when the roads are dry or frozen.
