Very glad we stayed here!

Visited in early July 2011 for 3 nights; 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We drove here on our day of arrival after spending the morning at the Blue Lagoon. The house is absolutely beautiful inside and out! Very comfortable inside with large and abundant windows, comfortable beds, and modern appliances. Great backyard to enjoy the long daylight and fresh air, whether on the large wood deck, the lawn, or in the spa. The house is in a beautiful part of the country, an hour east of Borgarnes. Only a few minutes from the house is the mesmerizing Hraunfossar falls where we spent many hours watching the water flow from and cascade over the lava cliffs. During one of our days in the area we visited historic Reykholt and took a guided hike through a lava cave. We also used this house as a base for a day trip to the Snaefellsnes peninsula (make sure you take the hike from Hellnar to Arnarstapi; we also took snowmobile to the top of Snæfellsjökull). Other daytime activities we didn’t get a chance to do in this area include glacier tours via sno-cat or dog sleds. From here we connected to the southern part of the country via F550 (drive-able in good weather but 4-wheel drive recommended and required by rental car companies); this was a very unique drive through the glaciers – would have been even more scenic if not for the low cloud cover that morning, our only cloudy day the entire week we were in Iceland – and took us right to Pingvellir Lake in the Golden Circle area. Homeowner was very helpful in answering our questions about the house and the area as we planned our trip. Very glad we stayed here, felt like we got off the usual tourist circuit to experience a beautiful and worthwhile part of Iceland that many Iceland residents go to for their summer vacations.
