Matthew is a native Virginian whose family have loved and enjoyed the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay his whole life. Lachelle grew up in the Midwest on the plains, kayaking, canoeing, and enjoying water-sports on the rivers and lakes that weave their way through Iowa, Minnesota and Missouri.
We were stunned when we pulled up into the drive the first time to see 711 Marshalls Beach Road. The wind was strong, whitecaps rolled across the mouth of the river. (Lachelle felt right at home, as if she was back on the windy plains in Iowa.) As we entered the garden gate, we were stunned. No one could have prepared us for the expansive, break-taking view of the Chesapeake Bay that greeted us as we entered the courtyard.
Our home is the only home on Marshalls Beach that is rented. You are surrounded by Richmond and Northern Virginia families who have traveled here every weekend through the summer for as many as seven generations. Southern hospitality abounds.
The design of the home is the greatest feedback we receive. Every local contractor, builder, real estate agent or neighbor who visits us at the house are floored -- completely awestruck by the property. Many of these folks grew up on the Bay and River or have lived/worked the properties there for years. We think that says it all.
With fabulous water views on three sides, we felt like we were out at sea on an ocean liner. And since it rained most of the time we were there we were lulled by the sound of the raging surf. The house is beautiful and extremely comfortable. The kitchen was well outfiitted and easy to cook in. The master bedroom is huge, and the master bath sports the best shower I've ever been in, with special spouts all over.
My only disappointment was that there was nothing near by to visit. Even the only market was Food Lion, 10 miles away. A number of places were closed since we were there post Labor Day. So if you go off-season, just bring all the food you'll need and pretend you're on a ship!
This riverfront estate is spectacular in every way. Not only is the home designed to take advantage of every view architecturally, the interior decor accentuates each view from every floor. Our hosts were communicative, friendly & most helpful. We arrived just at sunset, to a magnificent display of nature. The main house provides its guests striking views of both sunrises & sunsets over water and we enjoyed each one, ever changing and unique. The home offered everything we could have asked for and more. The kitchen is especially well equipped. We can't say enough about the how the home is designed to take full advantage of exquisite views of the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River plus sounds of the water lapping and the costal winds. Daily visits of bald eagles, terns, herons, blue crabs and others made this tranquil place come alive! The one day we didn't explore the surrounding areas, was our best day, relaxing in all the special spots to enjoy the tremendous estate and surroundings. Our favorite was the cupola. If you are looking to relax, restore and recharge then look no further...you have found riverfront paradise.
We were looking for a quiet weekend getaway that was a short drive away from our home in the DC area, and this place was perfect. When we arrived, we sat down in the rocking chairs on the screened-in porch and enjoyed the breeze from the Bay. That and a glass of wine helped us immediately feel relaxed :) The views of the water through the wall-to-wall windows were always amazing! We saw a bald eagle flying by the windows as we were in the kitchen, which was awesome to see up close. We will be back.
What an unbelievable place to stay, it was so beautiful, relaxing and tranquil, just what we needed, to be out of the rush of everyday life!
Thank you for sharing your home.
The house is very pleasant and very well fitted , the place is gorgeous, the neighborhood very friendly. We have really appreciated our stay in Lachel's place, well located for those who enjoy History, seashore and quietness. We will come back for sure. A very nice place for family holidays and a romantic house for couples.
Coffee and sunrises over water, naps in the breeze on the screened porch, walks along the beach and creek, tying flies in the cupola for the next day's fishing, cool Belgian ales at sunset, stars at night. Oh the joys of retirement ... even if it was just pretending for a few days ... it was well worth it, and this place is perfect for it. The owner is gracious and accommodating beyond expectations. The house is fresh, bright, clean, and thoughtfully provisioned in excess. If you need to get away and heal your brain from the rat race, or just want a leisurely rest, you will not be disappointed.
