Eagle's Nest Retreat - Cabin on 50 Acres with Eight-Acre Lake

We really had a good time there, it is a relaxing place and very nice. We did have an issue with a couple of toilets not flushing properly, even after letting them "recover" between flushes, and there was a strong odor of gas all weekend. Overall, we would definitely return for another visit, and would recommend it for others.

Our family had a reunion at Eagle's Nest in early November, 2012 and we could not have asked for a better place to entertain family and friends. The property is great, beds were comfortable, plenty of space for everyone to sit and talk and eat, and eat, and eat!!! We picked this property due to the outdoor amenities and they did not disappoint at all. The trap was extremely fun and even those among us who had never experienced wing shooting got fairly proficient. The best thing about the property, though, was the fishing. My dad and I spent at least 4 hours every day sitting on the dam and catching hand sized shell crackers, bluegill and yearling largemouth. Over the entire 6 days we must have caught at least 150 bream, all returned to the lake with the utmost care (if you fish here practice catch and release. Small bodies of water are very easy to overfish). It is not every small lake that can support a population of bream this size. The bass were small but fun and very aggressive. I will definitely be back in the spring with a 4 weight fly rod when the bream are on bed!

The only drawback I can think of are the lofts. If you are looking for a place for more than a few physically challenged individuals this is probably not the place for you. The lofts are great for kids and even middle aged kids but they are not accessible for older people who can't climb a ladder.

I would highly recommend this property for families with young kids as there is a lot to do and plenty of room to do it. This property would be great for a youth group and if the owners weren't opposed to it a camping trip on the lawn for the kids while the adults enjoy the comforts of a very well appointed home would make for a perfect get away.

Some local points of interest: Very well stocked package store in Milledgville across the street from WalMart has a great wine and beer selection, a good selection of single malts and even a decent humidor for cigars by the lake. In Gray there is a great BBQ place, Clinton's, where pulled pork and brunswick stew is done to perfection!

All in all one of the best vacation rentals we have ever experienced. A definite return trip is in order and this one comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

We recently stayed at Eagles Nest, and enjoyed a family weekend. The house is older and rustic and seems to have been through some renovations through the years. Outdoors is a playground and splash fountain which our grandchildren enjoyed. The lake was lovely to look at, but we didn't want to use the beat-up old boats or old grills. It was comfortable inside, kitchen fine, good lighting and fans everywhere. Be aware that two of the loft bedrooms are up steep ladder steps. If you can get out on the trails that run through the woods and you'll know you've been to the country!
