Hi Everyone, You'll be glad you stopped to experience this gorgeous Beachfront House. Truly a secluded gem, with a private beach and gated community . The fresh ocean air, calmness and relaxation of the environment allows peacefulness so needed for the body and soul. You'll enjoy your own private balcony that overlooks one of the most gorgeous points of Baja - quite often dolphins are passing by. You could be in Hawaii or Tahiti or the Bahamas, but this has it all and it is only 3 hours from Los Angeles. There is a fabulous gourmet kitchen with a large dining table, 55' in flat screen tv, internet and a comfortable couch to relax and have a beer. Just minitues away are fabulous special dining places that are reasonably priced. Steps down to the sand....you will see a private seculed beach - K55 is a swell magnet, and one of the best surf spots in Northern Baja. It has a perfect right hand point break with excellent beach breaks. Great for boogie boarding too. There is Horseback Riding and ATV rentals on the dunes nearby. The charming feel of the house is perfect for being together. Upstairs is the kitchen and balcony area perfect for entertaining, while down stairs is more secluded and has beautiful bedrooms and gorgeous travertine stone bathrooms.
The master is large and has his/her onyx sinks with a gorgeous walk in shower. There is a door that opens to your private path to the ocean. There is an outdoor shower. There are several paths along the beach. Just walking or biking the Puerta del Mar paths is enjoyable. There are many other places to visit like the wine country near Ensenada or just visiting some of the local vendors a few kilometers to the North.

This is surfers paradise and a stress free place where we relax, have fun with kids, dogs, and enjoy a wonderful place. It is an adult oasis as well. Watching the sunsets from the balcony makes us want to be there as much as possible. The view of the point is spectacular. It truly is a slice of heaven. This oceanfront beauty captured our hearts. Whether the kids are writing in the sand, surfing, boogie boarding, or just being together, we all share precious moments and memories. We know you will have some too. Jayne Wilson

After having a home in La Jolla for several years, and searching the Pacific for something that would be comparable - we found Puerta del Mar....a world class surf spot, a private beach, a gorgeous house..BUT with NO PEOPLE or hassles, or congestion, or parking problems. Being from LA makes us yearn to get back to the basics and enjoy the calm environment and sound of the ocean.
So many benefits - the food, margaritas, wave watching and surfing are the best... love the spa treatments at a reasonable price - but the biggest benefit is spending quality time with kids, family dogs, or just people you like to be with in a great environment. It is a very special place!
My husband and I along with our 5 children plus 2 friends stayed in this amazing home on the beach for 2 nights. We wished we could of stayed longer but plan on coming back next month. Forget anything negative you've heard about local Mexico, we had a totally relaxing time in this private gated community on a beautiful beach with surf and tide pools right out front! We took the kids both days to the sand dunes that are just a 5 minute drive if that north of the house. We rented ATV's and had a blast! We spent the afternoons exploring the tide pools which are full of all kinds of sea life. We even got to have some fun with some small fireworks and sparklers, (FYI, larger fireworks are not allowed on the beach in front of the community). When we return we plan on horseback riding at a ranch we found called All the Pretty Horses of Baja. It's a rescue ranch for horses and they offer a variety of different rides, check out their website. I would highly recommend this home, it's a beautiful place with lots of room, lovely decor and most of all a view you can't beat!
Usually we would camp, we would camp with our kids, dogs and the like. Now that we are almost all empty nesters it's nice to upgrade to a place like this!
If you like privacy, unobstructed view right in front of the ocean - roomy, very accommodating, homey, lovely surroundings, villa - spacious. Nice décor. Nice balcony to hang out on - eat drink...read a book, sunbathe etc. A great location for shopping, dining, close to Puerto Nuevo, Rosarito, Ensenada and Baja Mar.
Or if you just like the ocean air, views and uncrowded private beach, sound and smell of the ocean. This is the place for you!
We went with 2 other couples (our closest oldest friends - total of 3 married couples) and had a great time. WE surfed, ate Lobster at Puerto Nuevo, shopped in Rosarito, played golf at Baja Mar, ate fish tacos at Ensenada and shopped some more. And we also cooked meals in the villa too! Spacious enough for us 3 couples, even places to be alone if you like.
The beach is beautiful gorgeous. On the beach there is spacious - room to roam, jog or walk and you can be alone by yourself too. The guys surfed, snorkeled, played golf close by. The waves were okay but you have to watch out for the rock bottom in some spots. A couple of the guys surfed out to the point and swam in the cave that comes back into the land. So if it's water sports you are looking for it's here. Water was cold so full wet suit and booties - late October.
The whole complex of homes are gated and no riff raff anywhere. Guards even walk around day and night - nice to feel safe. There is also a heated pool and jaccuzzi at the main phase. The guys used it.
Plan to return soon when weather is warmer and ocean is warmer. I truly enjoyed my stay there. Definitely double sky-high thumbs up!
We are glad we left the dogs at home the first time because of the cliff and I wouldn't recommend it for young children or teens. The cliff is unprotected there. But for adults it's the place to be! Nice stairway down to the beach, concrete and railings it even has resting benches along the way.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. For a wonderful time - I will never forget! Hope to return in the warmer season!
Muchas, muchas Gracias - Puerta del Mar - muy fabuloso!
We are driving home from a 10 day stay at Puerta Del Mar. The house was gorgeous, as advertised. The property was on a cliff overlooking the private, sandy beach with great surf breaks. The long stairs with rocks at the bottom were well worth it. The rocky tide pools were delightful. Very secluded and quiet, a real getaway. We felt very safe in this gated, guarded community.
We visited the property for a weekend getaway from San Diego with six of us along with four dogs. The home itself is absolutely beautiful - very modern with a cozy Mexican feel. We did not feel cramped at all and the dogs absolutely LOVED the beach access. I don't think we've ever seen them happier! We felt very safe as the guards were always on duty and very attentive. The views are amazing, and since the house sits far above the coastline it was great for the guys to check out the different surf breaks of which there's many to choose from. Thanks again and we will definitely be back!!
A FEW TIPS:
DINING: Splash is located about 1 mile north on the left hand side / ocean side and the food and service hit the spot. They offer both an American and Mexican menu, and the margaritas are stiff! Ramon is the best and will help you with parking; be sure to tip him a couple bucks.
HOT WATER: Turn on the hot water heater upon arrival as we didn't know this and had no hot water for showers.
POOL: the house is located in Phase 1 of 3 phases, and the Clubhouse / Pool is located in Phase 3. To get there on foot you have to walk down to the beach, walk to the left and walk up the next set of white steps to Phase 2. Then follow the road up to Phase 3 on the hill. The Clubhouse is located at the far end of Phase 3. It's a little bit of a hike but well worth it once you get there. Also, you have to call the service people to have them turn on the jacuzzi beforehand otherwise it will not be hot. (You could probably also drive but we didn't take that route.)
Contacted owner through this site and received a rapid response with more information and pictures. We mailed the deposit to secure the dates. Simple and pain-free. We received a pack with information regarding all aspects of your stay, including local eateries and recreational activities. The property is pet-friendly, our dogs LOVED the beach.
We took the toll road (2 checkpoints $2.20US each) down and made it from border to front door in ~40minutes. The guards at the gated entrance were very polite and checked our vehicles against the guestlist, then waved us through.
The home is beautiful and exceeded my expectations. It is a split level home with living and dining areas upstairs and the sleeping quarters downstairs.
Upstairs, there is a HUGE sectional and an HDTV with satellite. The kitchen is amply sized and all of the appliances worked well. The dinner table is large enough to seat 8 comfortably. There is a restroom upstairs. The balcony has a great view, a fresh breeze, and is a pleasant area to relax with your favorite adult beverage. Garage has room for one vehicle, but the second vehicle was safe outside. Garage also contains surfboards and body boards, as well as a paddleboard, kayak, and jetski (not for guest use). There is also a laundry room that leads downstairs to the outdoor shower.
Downstairs are the sleep quarters. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated with comfortable beds and seating areas. The bathrooms are beautifully tiled with abundant hot water with good water pressure. Toilets flush well despite a note indicating "sensitive plumbing". The two large bedrooms have doors that open onto the backyard porch and outdoor shower area. The third bedroom has 3 beds allowing multiple sleep options for adults and or kids sharing a room.
I recommend JEFEs open 24/7 with ATM for everyday minor grocery needs, its located near the Puerto Nuevo exit. For major grocery shopping, I recommend the huge COMERCIAL MEXICANA on your left hand side as you pass Rosarito. Its a BIG grocery store.
SAFETY: Never felt ill-at-ease. Security was excellent!
Bring at least 3 1lb propane bottles from USA (Walmart camping section has 2 for $6/ $15 EACH in Mex)
Buy Aloe for sunburn at Mexican pharmacy it has lidocaine
Plan on ~2 hours on return trip for border wait time: plenty of vendors, no bathrooms
Take the 5 gallon water bottles to JEFEs for bulk water needs, bring bottled water
Get on the surfboards!
out of room to type, great place!
We had a great time in staying here for 4 nights. My favorite time of the day is early in the morning sitting in the balcony drinking coffee and enjoying the ocean view and sound of wave pounding on the beach below. It was an easy drive from San Diego area, once crossing the border it takes about 45 minutes to reach the property. Ensenada is another 45-minute drive south. Went to the seafood market and bought 2.5 lbs of blood clams for $10. There is a propane grill on the patio which is great for barbecuing meat or seafood.
Inside a gated complex, it's guarded 24-hr so feels very safe. Master bedroom has its own master bath and shower (no tub). The other 2 bedrooms share a bath (also no tub). The house is very well built and nicely appointed with airy feeling throughout the living room, dining area, and kitchen due to its open design overlooking the ocean. Lots of good places to eat nearby. One of my favorite is taco surf (km 38, about 10 minutes north from the house) where 2 guys serve carne asada & al pastor tacos and tortas, grilled fresh in front of your nose. Tacos cost $1 each, so it's better if you have pesos it's only 10 pesos each (which is like 70 cents).
There is a sand dune nearby where you can rent ATV but we didn't have a chance to do it. There is a ping-pong table in the club house, as well as a tennis court and basketball court. They have lights for nightime play, not in very good condition but we still had fun.
Look forward to coming back here on or next getaway south of the border!
