|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
This newly built Bahama Home is professionally decorated and has a simple charm to both the beach goers and the fishermen. Pull your boat up to the dock or simply throw your bait in the water right out back at the landing. The house has been stylishly decorated, making it a warm and cozy place to read, relax or sunbathe on the back deck. The landing has a 15 foot deep canal that doubles as a gateway for some of the best fishing and diving the Caribbean has to offer. A short walk down the road leads to the beach or snorkel the canal looking for tropical fish and lobster. Yes Lobster! In the evening, you are only a few short miles from the night life at Port Lucaya where you can dance the night away, enjoy a delicious dinner; or simply sit on the veranda in the rear of the home and smoke a cigar, star gaze, listen to music or even make a little of your own.
Traveling throughout the islands, I wanted to build a home that had a tropical feel in a remote location while still having the conveniences of a modern city. Freeport is a cool mix of the laid back life style of the Abacos coupled with a hint of the city life of Nassau. You can drive to the east side of the island and walk for miles and not see a soul; or you can drive down the road to a store similar to Sam's Club or Costco and buy a weeks worth of groceries for your family.
Haven Del Mar offers direct access to the ocean from the backyard. You can pull your boat up to the dock, thus eliminating expensive dockage fees. You have the convenience of offloading stores and the catch of the day without traveling or walking long distances to your lodging. Hot day? Jump in the canal and catch some lobsters. Enjoy the tropical fish that live and play under the dock. Swim across the canal and you'll be on a remote beach that its only habitats are blue crab and tropical birds. Hear the ocean waves splash and crash from the back deck. In one of the most sought after neighborhoods in Grand Bahama, Haven Del Mar is ready to give you and your family remarkable memories of your exotic vacation to the islands.
The house is really nice and comfortable. It has many upscale touches, but the big bonus is everything is close by. Whether you want secluded beaches, crowded beaches, diving, fishing, snorkeling, shopping, sightseeing, bars or restaurants, it is all close by.
The owner is also very helpful and responsive to all the questions we had.
Some of our highlights:
snorkeling one of the blue holes on the east end
snorkeling Peterson Cay
snorkeling Dead Man's Reef in front of Paradise Cove Resort
visiting the inland, water filled caves in Lucaya National Park, and some less well known ones
moonrise over the water (and watching the phosphorescence in the water before the moonrise)
grilling on the back patio
eating fresh lionfish ceviche
eating fresh conch salad
making friends with the locals
Lastly, I have to mention that the way the kitchen is laid out, we were able to have 4+ people working at once without getting in each other's way. This made our meal prep and cleanup very easy. That is not something I usually find in a vacation rental.
The house was immaculate and very comfortable. The dock out back with the diving board was great. There is so much sea life right off the dock and the water is turquoise. My favorite part was watching the sea turtles pop their heads up while paddling the kayak to the ocean. A great time was had by all!
My family stayed in this home during the Easter holiday. The location was great, home was clean and fairly new, the dock behind the home on the canal was beautiful. My family really took advantage of the 2 kayaks. The home itself needs some small repairs ie: sliding closet doors, carpentry issues with door frames, and none of the televisions in the rooms worked during our stay, just the one in the family room. Lots of wires and remote controls by the audio system and after figuring it out, you have to be Apple compatible to use the system in the home. The stairs to the washer and dryer in the garage were a bit tricky for my 86 year old mother. This home came with access to a car while on the island and made up for the small repairs that the home needed. Otherwise a lovely home and stay.
Thinking of staying in a hotel or resort? Forget it. You’ll be missing out on everything Haven Del Mar has to offer, which is far more than a room with a view. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was beyond perfect. From the moment our plane landed we were in paradise. The owner is incredibly helpful and accommodating. We were well taken care of by a local cab driver and if you prefer to get around on your own, there’s a car on the property. The house is well decorated and truly feels like home away from home; cozy beds, movies, relaxing patio with a view of the canal, a private deck perfect for sunbathing and complete with diving board and boat dock, well stocked kitchen, pool table room… the list goes on. I really enjoyed having a nice home cooked meal with a glass of wine on the patio. The surround sound makes for a nice ambiance as well. More than anything, my favorite part of our vacation was all of the activities at our fingertips. We took the kayaks to a nearby beach to play and to the open water for an astounding sunset view. We had a fun bike ride to another nearby beach for the day. We snorkeled and hunted for lobster. We had way too much fun with the diving board. We spent our evenings enjoying local nightlife, music, and good food. We ended our nights on the deck with a flashlight, watching all of the sea life. There’s so much to love about Haven Del Mar, we can’t wait to come back with a group of friends!
WOW!! Where to begin, Haven del Mar was perfect. Very nice home on the canal, water crystal clear, fish everywhere at the boat lift, a secluded and quiet beach only a mile away(Xanadu beach), weather was GREAT warm and plenty of sunshine. My wife and i celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary in this perfect setting. Great bars and restaurants in Port Lucaya..... all amazing seafood and a laid back atmosphere. Dont miss a sunrise at the beach, or a sunset.....AMAZING PLACE!!!! This was truly a space to reconnect, renew, relax, recooperate, and remember.... a quiet, peaceful and blessed life. Haven del Mar and Grand Bahama Island will be an annual event, btw, did i mention it was our 1st time in the Bahamas?
Beautiful, relaxing location directly on the canal and had easy boating and water access. Short distance to the airport (less than 10min) if you're flying. Close to the Port Lucaya Marketplace too for shopping, restaurants and nightlife, everyone we met was really friendly and a great vibe. Extremely clean, spacious and well appointed with all the modern conveniences of home. Private ensuite bath attached to the master bedroom with patio doors opening to a large deck (lots of patio furniture for lounging) overlooking the backyard and canal. We loved being able to use the two 2-person kayaks that were available on-site to explore the canal, also used them to access the nearby beach. Owner is very accommodating & gracious, provided great suggestions for our stay. Stayed with friends in April and plenty of room for everyone. All in all, very relaxing and convenient. Really phenomenal value. We all highly recommend and will definitely return!
