Located in the coveted Big Lagoon area of Trinidad, Patrick's Point can be seen out the front window. It is only a few minutes walk to pristine Agate Beach and Big Lagoon itself. Only five minutes north of Trinidad, 30 minutes north of Eureka, thirty minutes south of Redwood National Park, and fifteen minutes north of the Eureka/Arcata Airport; our home provides seclusion and quiet.
Our guest house sleeps 6 (1 King and 2 queen beds) and has everything you need for the perfect vacation. The house has the easy feel of a beach house with linen slip-covered furniture and designer tile work in kitchen and bathrooms. 'Mad Men goes to the beach' is the best way to describe our guest house. Our house was built in the late 60's and, while we completely updated the house last year, we maintained many of the original features. This includes light fixtures, bathroom fixtures, aqua grass cloth wallpaper, and many other priceless details. Our guests have mentioned the cool look in their reviews of our guest house. Linens for bed, bath and kitchen are furnished, as are dishes, flatware, utensils, cookware, paper products, laundry and kitchen soaps, etc. We make every effort to include amenities that insure that you feel like you are at your own home. The dining room has a large french pine dining table that overlooks the ocean and provides a place for our guests to relax and share a delicious meal prepared in the fully equipped kitchen. A master bedroom has a Cal king bed, ensuite bathroom with shower and ocean and garden views. The second and third bedrooms overlook a lovely tree-lined meadow, both have queen beds, and share a full bath with shower and tub across the hall. There is a two car garage for your vehicles which also houses the washer and dryer for your use. Much care has been taken to provide this spacious, clean house with a feel of ease and relaxation.
Note about Northwest Pacific Ocean beach and bluff safety: erosion can cause unstable bluff conditions. While the guest house located across the street, and is at least 100 feet away from the edge of the bluff, the area within 20 feet from the edge of the bluff is not stable and therefore unsafe. Be advised not to walk that close to the edge. Also, be advised that Pacific Northwest beaches drop off quickly and can have a strong riptide. We advise guests never to turn their back on the ocean, and not to walk on the beach when they can’t see footprints in the sand, which indicates high, and/or sneaker wave action. Stay safe and have fun.

About Barbara Olsson
Barbara is a retired school psychologist and Jim a retired dry wall contractor. Living in Humboldt County for seventeen years, they now live in Eureka. Barbara is a watercolor painter, plays the piano and gardens in her spare time. Jim is a blues musician and can be seen playing at local venues such as Arts Alive in Eureka on the first Saturday of every month, and other gigs in the area.
Barbara Olsson purchased this house in 1992
Why Barbara Olsson chose Trinidad
As a child, Barbara and her family, who lived in the central valley of CA, went camping at Patrick's Point every summer for twenty years to escape the heat. She loved the place so much that she dreamt of moving there. She and her husband, Jim looked for many years for a place to buy that they could live in when they retired. They finally found the perfect house. Barbara and Jim began renting their house in Big Lagoon soon after purchasing it, hoping to move there when they retired. After three years, they moved into the house because they couldn't wait for retirement before living in their lovely home! After living there for four years, they turned it back into a vacation rental so they could move to Eureka and be closer to their jobs. They have always felt that the guest house in Big Lagoon should be shared with others. It is a special house in a special location filled with beauty and serenity.
What makes this house unique
The house is in an ideal location for rest and relaxation. Agate and driftwood hunting on Agate Beach is a favorite pastime for guests, as is hiking on the beach, or picnicking at Big Lagoon. Don't forget whale watching out the front window! While relaxing at home is wonderful, there are some great restaurants located in nearby towns if dining out is on the schedule. Big Lagoon is a fascinating and important resting and feeding site for thousands of birds and other wildlife such as river otters. One can often see the otters and their babies feeding at sunset near the Big Lagoon boat launch. On clear nights, out the front windows, you can see the night sky filled with stars rising and setting like the sun. At Agate Beach Guest House a visit to the beach, an afternoon nap, or a meal with friends and family can become the things you fondly remember for years. Remember to honor our motto at Agate Beach Guest House: 'If it's not fun, it's not done!'
