Decent place overall in a good part of town
After tireless research of both hotels/condos in Southern California, I eventually landed in Huntington Beach at this condo in an older, but well-kept condo community. The owner's wife met us when we drove up (great communicators, by the way), gave us a tour and explained the property, its amenities, and the neighborhood. After spending a week, here's what we found.
Firstly, my family and I felt pretty safe while staying here. The condo community was quiet, nicely maintained, and literally a 7-8 minute walk to a large grocery store strip mall. Access to the surface streets needed to navigate non-freeway Orange Country was great, and we walked to the shops most every night comfortably.
The property allowed my kids to play soccer on the communal lawn, and although we didn't use it, there is a large pool. The access to the covered parking space (a nice plus) is not from the front door, but rather the back sliding glass door after going through a fence and back patio. Although we didn't get a chance to fire up, there is a gas grill and community charcoal grills to use, as well.
Inside, the condo is as the owners have described in their listing. The kitchen is nicely redone with granite counter tops and new appliances. They have more-than-adequate tableware, cookware, and glassware to feed a family who wants to avoid the expensive restaurant scene. As one picture shows, a fairly new front-loading washer & dryer is under one of the main counters in the kitchen (a small price to pay to be able to avoid a laundromat)
Wireless internet and basic cable on the 3 flat-screens in the home round out the information amenities. There is 1 1/2 baths, with the main upstairs bath being a larger and also remodeled. It has a jacuzzi tub (although it was not working while we were there) and a large shower with one of those rain-type heads. Plenty of linens were available, and our queen bed was really comfortable. The owners even have a desktop computer for guests to use; however, we connected easily to their network on our gear, so we did fine without that.
There zero negatives about this property - only things people from all over may want to know before booking. There is no A/C in the place, although with us visiting in the fall, a high of 80 one day kept it a bit warmer upstairs in the evening... maybe during the summer/heat waves that could be rough. The condo shows its age a little, but overall, we enjoyed our stay - thanks!
