TOP LOCATION IN THE HEART OF TRENDY NOTTING HILL & PORTOBELLO - SLEEPS UP TO 4!

Notting Hill Apartment Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4

Behind a blue door [now blue/green], and just 18 yards from the famous Travel Bookshop in Notting Hill, this modern one-bedroom apartment is at the epicenter of the trendiest location in London. With a host of great restaurants, bars, boutiques and the world renowned Portobello Market just a few steps away, this chic little home just couldn't be better located.

The restaurant below the apartment was the often-mentioned bar/restaurant in the Bridget Jones’s Diary books, where she met up with her friends to talk about her love life and other things (well, mainly just her love life). Today, it is a great family-run Italian restaurant and, formerly known as just '192' (the original sign is still below the window), it was the popular haunt of media types and many a celeb – not just the British ones, but also Hollywood megastars when they were in town.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A NON-SMOKING APARTMENT. If you feel you simply have to smoke, making the next guests feel sick when they arrive after you, then please book somewhere else!

At the very hub of the Notting Hill scene, this little block alone boasts six fine restaurants and cafés, the famous 100-year-old and beautifully restored Electric Cinema and Brasserie, the Notting Hill Community Church and several of the area's trendiest clothing boutiques – all accessible without you even having to cross the road! There's also no need to leave the block to catch the brilliant 23 bus which will take you to dozens of London's top tourist attractions – including Paddington Station (with direct access to Heathrow Airport within 15 minutes), Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, The Strand, Waterloo Bridge, Fleet Street, St Paul's Cathedral, The Bank Of England and Liverpool Street Station (with direct access to Stansted Airport) and close to trendy Brick Lane and Shoreditch. So, no need to take the Tourist Sightseeing Bus – this great regular local service practically has them all on its route for you already. And just a few yards away along the street, further local buses give you direct access to Notting Hill Gate, Kensington High Street, Kensington Palace & Gardens, The Royal Albert Hall, Hyde Park, Knightsbridge, Harrods, Piccadilly Hard Rock Café, Buckingham Palace and Victoria Station (with direct access to Gatwick Airport).

All those famous landmarks easily reached without even having to venture onto the tube/subway system! But with two underground stations a short walk away – Ladbroke Grove five minutes (Zone 2) and Notting Hill Gate eight minutes (Zone 1) the whole of the capital is within easy reach. Without having to change trains from either station, the former is just 17 minutes to St Pancras International Station with direct access to Paris and Brussels (just over two hours away), and the latter a mere 8 minutes away from Oxford Circus. This apartment just couldn't be better located for everything this great city has to offer!

Whether you're staying for a long weekend, on vacation or on business, this apartment is a fully-fitted home from home and has a quiet working/study area in the double bedroom at the rear of the property which includes a pine desk and laser printer and, of course, a WiFi internet connection is freely available. The spacious L-shaped sofa in the lounge converts into a high-quality and comfortable bed for up to two further adults. The kitchen is fully-fitted with a Smeg dual-halogen hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, electric fan-assisted oven and washer/dryer. There is gas central heating and hot water.

About Lee Thomas

I've worked in the media for the past 35 years – across publishing, advertising and for the last decade or so in the film industry. I'm currently a partner in an international talent agency and also write and consult on feature film script development and international co-productions. I love the media vibe and the unique creative energy that Notting Hill has to offer (which is why I moved there 12 years ago) but now new and exciting adventures are taking me to Vienna where I will be spending most of my time – hence I have decided to share my lovely apartment with you for the foreseeable future!

Guestbook comments from the owner

JEAN-CHRISTOPHE WROTE: "We had the most lovely stay here at Lee's. First of all, Lee is the best host ever, very kind and available, even if we had a little travel problems as we missed our flight he was always very comprehensive and reachable. The appartment is the best location one could possibly find in London, only 5 minute walk away from the circle metro line, with all amenities on doorstep and all of that in the very heart of portobello. The appartment in itself is not huge but a cosy, tasteful home for any demanding person, perfectly fitted for a couple or, like us a father and his son planning a last minute trip! There was really no bad aspect, we will save the adress for any future trip in London and I recommend it strongly! A delighted french father." Lovely apartment with perfect location

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I spent 5 days in London and stayed at this quaint apt. in Nottinghill. Mainly, I can list only pros about the place, but for the sake of completeness, I'll include the cons knowing that every place we stay will have some. First, the owner is great to work with and responds very quickly to email requests. The apt. is well represented by the pictures. Location is PERFECT!! It's a hike up the narrow staircase so consider the weight of your luggage. But it's only one floor up. Secure building, safe neighborhood. Restaurants all around for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Really good food too. We ate at kitchen and pantry down the street a few times and it was consistently a good breakfast/lunch place. There are many lunch/dinner places and italian predominates (that was just fine with me). The apt. is small but adequate for 2 adults. You can pull out the couch but I think it would work for kids best. Value for London is fine. Dishwasher works well. There is a bathtub with shower overhead, good water pressure, hot water always avail. No cold blasts! Small refridge works fine. No freezer. There is a coffee maker, toastser, tea pot, utensils. We did not cook while we were here, but it looks like small meals could be done. Sheets/towels clean and decent quality. They provide dishwasher & laundry soap. There is a small grocery store right near Ladbroke Grove tube station. You can pick up basic things there. Like toilet paper.
I'm coming from America and so that's my reference point. Here are the cons:
No microwave which is so convenient. Washing/dryer clothes machine is super small, only put in 1-2 days worth of laundry. Wash cycle is 120min (no kidding) long, drying cycle same. Plan laundry strategy as it takes so long for so few clothes. Need more washclothes but that's just my thing. Otherwise towels ok. No toilet paper when we arrived (yikes). These are all small details.
My biggest gripe was the internet. I suspect that for VRBO users, the internet is a way of life. Here, there are a few networks to get on, but they will drop you every 5 minutes at the very longest. Sometimes you can get back on, sometimes you have to wait. Often, you have to wait. I would suggest that this be remedied and then I would have been very happy. Phone signal is fine.

So overall, a great place to stay. London is very expensive to stay in a hotel and this is a great compromise. Love living right in a real neighborhood! Thumbs up on this rental.

Great Location, Tremendous Value, Excellent Hosts

Lee and Haydn's flat is the perfect base if you want to experience London like a local. Bang-central in the best part of Notting Hill, the flat is exactly as described in the pictures. Clean and comfortable, it's a nice home away from home compared to most cramped London hotel rooms. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within steps of your front door. If you're there on a weekend, it's fantastic to have the Portobello market just one block away. Public transport is near-by and easily accessible if you want to visit all of the usual London landmarks.
