We have been vacationing here for 25 years and love this lake. We had a small cottage on the lake that was very nice but when we saw this house we just had to have it! We sold our primary home in Massachusetts and our cottage to buy this house. We now rent in Massachsetts for the work week and spend our week ends here.
We love the fact that the location is beautiful but minutes to shopping & restaurants.
First words from our two daughters-in-law..."Gorgeous". The house and guest cottage were very clean and equipped. House very spacious and very well designed for privacy for eight people. (Our younger son and his wife and twins stayed in the cottage.) The sandy beach was perfect for the two six years olds and us. Views of the lake and surrounding natural beauty were lovely. Can't say enough. The owners were extremely gracious and we certainly would like to go again.
We had a great vacation; the property is neat and well laid out. The garage was an extra bonus and a great place to hang out during the rainy times; open the doors, setup the tables and work on an incredibly hard puzzle. When the weather is better there is a nice mix of sun and shade and several areas to enjoy the outdoors and the views of Lake Winnisquam and hills beyond.
The owners were pleasant to work with; we really appreciated that they allowed us to bring our dogs, our first “Doggie vacation” at a VRBO (not easy to find onepet freindly). The house is close to Supermarkets and Winnisquam Marina for boat rentals, great location. There is a lot to do in the New Hampshire lakes region, but personally I stayed at the house or on the lake the whole week.
The house was clean and the yard was well kept. The Owners do maintain the house and update the outdoor furnishings, I would suggest updating some of the photos. The older funiture is moved to other spots on the property, which make it nice for multiple places to hang out.
I wrote this review in my head on my way home last summer, it would have been a Trilogy; then I got back to the real world and never wrote it. I realized this as the year ended and we were deciding if we would ask for 2 weeks this year, I figured I’d write my review after that. Well things changed, my Wife and I loved the area so much that we just bought our own place a few miles down the lake. I just wanted to thank the owners for sharing their Home with us.
Only redeeming qualities of this home is a great setting on Lake Winnisquam with a nice sandy beach and a spacious detached garage. The house shows its age, maintains a mildew smell, small living quarters, barely any space in the kitchen, and contains furnishings clearly from the early 1980s. Pictures of the outdoor furniture seen on this site must have been taken a decade ago because the furniture has been warn by weather and is falling apart. If you’re planning to cook meals, consider bringing your own kitchenware as the house lacks basic supplies like a blender or adequate pots for cooking. Also, keep in mind that the owner’s policy is not to make any of the beds so you’ll spend your first hour of vacation getting sheets out of the drier and making beds.
We should have paid more attention to the lack of positive feedback and the negative comments on other websites as good reasons to stay away. Not only is the house one of the worst houses on the lake but the owner is rude and unfriendly. Learned too late that she has a history of fabricating claims in order to justify keeping security deposit. My family has rented at least 15-20 homes on VRBO and this was our worst experience on all accounts, by far.
Despite a great location, staying in this house will not feel like a vacation. If you choose to stay in the area, avoid this rental.
