BEAUTIFUL PRIVATE COTTAGE & GROUNDS W/ WATER & MOUNTAIN VIEWS

Bar Harbor Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Blue Hill Vista is located in the Bar Harbor village of Town Hill (Indian Point Area) just a 15 minute drive (6 miles) to the main entrance of Acadia National Park in Hulls Cove. Downtown Bar Harbor is just another 5 minutes drive from the Park entrance. A short walk from the property, operating seasonally, is The Island Explorer bus stop which allows car free access to the entire Mount Desert Island, including the National Park. We are centrally located close to all island points of interest and easily accessible to off island points and shopping. You will be in very private, relaxing setting but in minutes you could be in the hubbub of Downtown Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor or Ellsworth.

The cottage is located on seven acres overlooking pastures, orchards, woods and water. From the deck and west facing rooms you will view breath taking sunsets over Western Bay and Blue Hill. Have your cameras ready! The cottage has two bedrooms, 2 baths, one with a shower in the master bedroom and the second bathroom has a tub/shower combination. The master bed room with the queen size bed has a television and views the gazebo and the woods. The second bedroom has a full size bed with a sliding glass door which opens on to the deck and has views of Western Bay and Blue Hill. For your dining and entertaining all dishes, flatware, glasses, bowls, platters, pots and pans, cooking utensils, lobster pot, crock pot, linens, towels are provided for your convenience. The cottage has everything you will need to cook up a great meal. Appliances include an Jenn-Air electric stove, a dishwasher, microwave, toaster, ice maker and a washer and dryer. The front of the cottage has a farmer’s porch furnished with rocking chairs so that you can enjoy the cool breeze coming through the trees.

On the second floor, along with an outstanding view of Western Bay and Blue Hill, you will find a full-size Brunswick billiards table in beautiful wood-paneled cathedral-ceiling family room accented with a standing antique barber pole to give it an old-time flavor. The room comes equipped with television, DVD player, a game/card table, full size futon/couch and a twin bed. In case you brought your computer, high speed wireless internet service is available throughout the house

The outside grounds are beautifully landscaped and there is a bocci court and playground with swings, slide and small climb-up covered club house for family fun.

We supply all linens, firewood, paper and soap products, books, puzzles and games. You simply bring your own food, clothes, bikes and kayaks. Sunsets included, no extra charge! The cottage is comfortable, homey and contains everything necessary to make your stay a very pleasant one. If you’re here when the weather is cool the living area has a wood burning stove. (The first floor also has in-floor radiant heat and the second floor has baseboard hot water heat for winter guests and there is an automatic generator in case of power failure.)

Judy and I have owned this property for over 30 years and retired here sixteen years ago and we would not live anywhere else. The rental cottage has the best view on the property. We built our home adjacent to the cottage and that's where we live year round. The rental cottage is a complete identity unto itself and you will have complete privacy but if you want help or recommendations about anything in the surrounding area or have any problems with the cottage we are readily available. Otherwise, if we’re home, we will be nearly invisible. Enjoy your stay in our homestead.

We are retired educators from New Jersey and we would not consider living anywhere else. We are at our happiest when our 3 grown children, their spouses and our 12 grandchildren visit. Ralph and Judy are active tennis players and are members of the Ellsworth Tennis Center. Ralph has also built a stained glass studio where he creates his art work mostly incorporated into our home and as gifts to our children. Both of us do volunteer work and serve on a local board of directors.

We were first attracted to Mount Desert Island in 1972 when we visted the island with 3 young children. We loved having Acadia National Park so accessible for all our outdoor activities and entertainment. We especially liked hiking and biking the carriage trails, climbing the many mountain trails, swimming in both Echo Lake and Sand Beach and picking wild blueberries!

Restaurants are located all over the island. Whether you like casual, rustic, or fine dining , with our advice and direction, I'm sure you'll find many to suit your likes.

Beautiful Cottage!

  • 5 of 5
My wife, two teenage boys, and I stayed for a week at this property in July. The cottage is plenty spacious for a family of four, is nicely decorated, and is well-furnished with everything that you're likely to need. It's located in the northwestern part of Mount Desert Island in a quiet location overlooking Clark Cove and Western Bay. We were generally out and about during the bulk of each day, but it was very enjoyable to sit out on the deck on our mornings/evenings, relaxing and admiring the view. The deck faces directly west, so it provides a perfect view of the sunsets over the water.

As I said, the cottage is plenty spacious. My wife and I slept in the master bedroom, which is very large and has a full bathroom attached. There is also a second downstairs bedroom which is smaller, but has a queen bed and a beautiful view overlooking the bay. There is a second downstairs full bathroom which is near this second bedroom but isn't attached to it. There is a large rec room upstairs that also includes a pair of beds. The rec room features a very nice pool table, which was a big hit with the family. We also liked the fact that the property included a kitchen, so that we didn't need to go out to restaurants for breakfast. We ate out for almost all of our other meals, but we did have a couple dinners at the cottage. The property also has a washer and dryer, which came in handy.

The cottage is about a twenty-minute drive from downtown Bar Harbor, but is also close to the sights and activities on the western side of the Island. We explored almost the entire island during our stay, so it was nice to be in a fairly central location. There are a couple nature preserves within walking distance of the cottage, and both of them provide access to the shore. We hiked to each of them on two different days during low tide. It was fun to walk along the water, chat with the people digging for clams, and check out the scenery.

Judy and Ralph were also very helpful and friendly, providing tips on all sorts of restaurants, hiking, and activities. All-in-all, it's a great property and I highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words about our "cottage". We originally purchased the property in 1980 primarily because of it's central location but the clincher was the spectacular views of Blue Hill and Western Bay. After all these years, the sunsets still amaze us!
Please come back because although you were very busy during your week long stay, there is plenty more to see!

Owner's Response: The reasons we selected our property in 1980 were the spectacular view of Western Bay, Clark Cove and Blue Hill. The second reason was that the property was so centrally located making it easily accessible to Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Ellsworth and most importantly, Acadia National Park. All of these can be reached with in 20 minutes at the most.

GREAT vacation!!

  • 5 of 5
What a beautiful, peaceful property this is! Very clean and well maintained home, and lots to do just around their property - it even has a pool table! This was our first time to Acadia and there were so many things to do - and this house is close to EVERYTHING but out of the middle of the traffic! It was so nice to have a very peaceful retreat to go to when our busy day was over. The property is hidden and is a park-like setting all on it's own - just amazing. Ralph & Judy are right next door if we ever needed anything, and they are a wealth of knowledge about the area - and a very nice couple. Really really enjoyed our visit, and so happy to have found a place I know we will be back to! My only regret is I wish we actually spent more time relaxing at this wonderful home - there are so many quaint places to sit and enjoy the amazing views from any side of the house. We were so busy sightseeing, that our week was over before we knew it!!

I would recommend if you have kids, the Diver Ed trip is a must. We also enjoyed the carriage ride to see the Rockefeller bridges, went on the Bar Harbor whale watch (we saw several whales, a basking shark, dolphins, seals - best trip for sea life), and hiked many trails at Acadia and ate at Jordan Pond house and had popovers (Jordan Pond was also our favorite park hike) - as well as explored many of the other harbor towns, including Bar Harbor - and we still did not see it all. At the house, they keep a book stocked full of all the wonderful things to do and places to eat - along with maps of the area! Judy recommended a trip to see the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller garden (which she even told me how to make a reservation, if she had not passed that information along we would have missed it) - and this was one of my highlights even in the rain.

So many things we did this week and so much more we need to come back and do. We will be back for sure!!

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure having you visit our cottage recently. You really accomplished quite a bit during your week long stay but as you said, there is just so more to do on Mount Desert Island. We would recommend hiking to Wonderland, Ship Harbor, Bubble Rock, Beech Hill fire tower, Flying Mountain and Hunter's Beach to name just a few. All of these hikes would be appropriate for adults and children alike. For the more sporting visitors we would suggest the non-technical hikes to the Beehive, the Precipice and Beech Mt. All of these have wonderful views after a climber navigates the stones steps and the ladders drilled into the rocks! For your future visit, we would recommend riding your bikes on the 50 plus miles of carriage roads in Acadia. Hope to see you and your family next year!

great spot in spite of the rain

  • 5 of 5
This vacation home is outstanding. The owners made us feel very welcome and were extremely knowedgable about acadia and bar harbor. It only rained hard one day, otherwise it was great for hiking and birding. I would recommend this property very highly, with many extras you would not getat another place - pool table, bocce, upstairs game room , new outdoor barbeque, short walk to a nature preserve, great patio view of sunsetsover the bay. Favorite place to eat was Lundt's lobster pound across Trenton bridge on the left about a mile - clam chowder the best as well as great lobsters and the best lobster roll ever. I definitely plan to return.

What a beautiful spot. The cottage is comfortable and cozy with all the amenities of home. Judy & Ralph are fantastic hosts and made us feel right at home. If you enjoy the great outdoors be it sitting, walking, hiking or bike riding, this spot should be on your bucket list. The view of the cove from the deck is very special.. We had a great time and would definitely stay again. Thanks Judy & Ralph.

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5
If you are looking for a very quiet, tranquil place to stay, we would highly recommend this property. It is very clean, very spacious & well-equipped. Ralph & Judy were close by to assist us in getting our bearings, places to see, restaurants to eat at, etc. We were in a wooded setting off the beaten path, yet very close to Acadia, Bar Harbor & the surrounding villages. We would do this trip all over again in a heartbeat!
