This meticulously-maintained, stylish, architect-owned apartment puts you right where you want to be at the junction of two famous historical districts--Le Marais and La Bastille--in the heart of romantic Paris!
The 34 sq. meter (375 sq. ft.) second-floor apartment (with full-size elevator) is handsomely-furnished and perfect for couples, individuals, or a couple of friends wanting a vibrant Paris holiday from a charming, quiet perspective.
The owners' complete floor-to-ceiling renovation included eliminating a dividing wall to fashion a bright and roomy open studio featuring a fully-equipped modern kitchen, solid oak flooring and ancient wooden beams. The modern remodel and 1790's original beams make a stunning combination!
The elegant modernist décor will delight the artist/decorator in you while the ancient bones of the building will satisfy your inner historian. Renters report that the handsome, spacious, light-infused pied-à-terre delights them in every way, especially as they fall asleep beneath centuries-old beams--10 feet above--from the comfort of an extra-firm modern queen bed.
You will be a resident of a private cobblestone pedestrian-only passageway suffused with history and exceptional charm, even by Paris standards. (The photo chosen by Airbnb to illustrate the Bastille neighborhood was taken at our door: each day tourists and Parisians alike discover and photograph the hidden Cour Damoye. Several movies have even been filmed in the famous passageway.)
The wisteria-adorned sanctuary--gated nightly to insure tranquility--is steps from the bustle of the city, the Bastille Opera, world-class restaurants, hot new bistros, sidewalk cafés, the Musée Picasso, the Musée Carnavalet and the biggest roving open-air food market in Paris! (So, will you use your gourmet kitchen for microwaving specialties from the food emporia surrounding you, or for preparing from-scratch meals from the fabulous outdoor market?)
A Foodie Fantasy: Many widely-lauded new eateries are nearby. A few examples are: Septime (and its new wine bar), Bones, Au Passage, le Vieux Chene, Paris/Hanoi, Café des Musées, le Verre Volé, Bistrot Paul Bert, Le '6' Paul Bert, Pierre Sang at Oberkampf and la Cave de l'Insolite. Then there are famous old standbys, also minutes away, such as Bofinger and l'Ambroisie. In March, 2013, the most famous three-star chef, Alain Ducasse, opened his first and only chocolate 'factory' and boutique, one minute from our apartment on rue de la Roquette!
A major Métro and bus hub are also a minute away, so getting anywhere in Paris is as easy as un, deux, trois!

We are in our 40's and this was our "2nd Honeymoon" in Paris. We spent the first one in Paris also but at a 5-star hotel. It cost us a fortune and although it was pretty elegant, it was cold and fussy and expensive. We wanted to try something different this time and we both think that we hit the jackpot!! We loved the amazing combination of old ceiling beams and modern kitchen and even two Tolomeo reading lamps. We're designers and we have those same classic lamps in our home! Our hearts were won right there. The amazing overall design is an award winner, the space has been so well used and so amazingly planned and it is filled with light. It is really really amazing. Then the little cobblestone alleyway is to die for, we thought we'd died and gone to heaven when we first saw it. The location, right there in the heart of Paris and next to an amazing food market every Sunday is very cool. Maybe we'll tell our friends about this find or can we keep this amazing secret place in Paris just for us? Melinda and arnie, we love your apartment!! We'll be back for many more honeymoons.
We spend 3 months a year in our gorgeous apartment maintaining it scrupulously for ourselves and for our guests. Arnie is an architect and Melinda (who has a background in graphic design) is a free-lance writer specializing in France. We completely designed and renovated the apartment for discriminating guests, like us. Our on-site manager helps you settle in and is always available. You won't be disappointed; it's better than the photos can show.
We fell in love with the Cour Damoye by chance one day many years ago. We thought it was the most magical street in Paris. When an apartment came available we couldn't resist!
This is a gated cobblestone private street right in the heart of Paris!
Located in the heart of Paris, Cour Damoye spokes off the bustling hub of Place de la Bastille, linking both the Marais and Bastille neighborhoods. The cobblestone pedestrian-only passageway is movie-set perfect. Our quiet secluded oasis is even gated nightly to maintain its privacy. Explore the stimulating Marais, take a ten-minute stroll to the Seine, Notre-Dame, or the Ile St.-Louis, or check out the program at the Opéra Bastille. All of Paris, plus world-class opera and dance are steps from your door. For those in the know, Cour Damoye is one of the most desirable locations in Paris
Enter Cour Damoye through the archway at 12 Place de la Bastille. The up-to-the-minute Bastille quartier transforms magically into the tranquil charm and intimate scale of turn-of-the-century Paris. The delightful architecture of wisteria-trimmed buildings, built from 1790to 1890, complements the secluded cobbled street, which belongs exclusively to its residents each evening. The perfect setting for a Parisian period piece, Cour Damoye, indeed, hosted many a movie crew prior to its 1999 restoration. Now, in addition to residential space, it hosts artists, architects, and galleries in ground-floor ateliers that a century ago housed craftsmen's workshops.
Beyond the tree-lined plaza outside Cour Damoye is the Bastille’s most imposing neighbor, L’Opéra Bastille. This cultural edifice, Europe’s largest and most frequented opera house, opened in 1989 to celebrate the bicentennial of the storming of the Bastille. It is both home to the Paris Opera and a preeminent destination for world-class ballet.Cour Damoye is at the edge of the 11th arrondissement, across one street from the 4th arrondissement, the famed Marais. On this very street—Boulevard Richard-Lenoir—a minute from your doorstep, you will discover Paris’s biggest and best roving street market! On Thursdays and Sundays, over 200 vendors proffer cheeses, prepared dishes, charcuterie, fruits, veggies, fresh fish: everything required to prepare a French feast chez vous in our modern kitchen. When you prefer dining out, cross Richard-Lenoir and order justly famous seafood at nearby Bofinger, Paris’s oldest brasserie. When only the best will do, spend the euros you’re saving staying in the studio on a 3-star meal at the renowned L’Ambroisie, one of only ten 3-star restaurants in Paris, and only a five-minute stroll away in Place des Vosges. Should the expensive menu dampen your appetite, console yourself on a bench in Paris’s most stunning square and count your own lucky stars. Innumerable renowned eateries—simple or elegant—are nearby. Cooking in or eating out: that is the question!
Befitting its status as one of the city’s major crossroads, Place de la Bastille abounds in handy transportation options. The Métro Bastille (served by three lines) and a 24-hour taxi rank are both just outside Cour Damoye. No fewer than eight bus lines also stop here. For instance, climb aboard the #87 and descend in front of the Eiffel Towel in about twenty minutes. Or get to most of Paris's other important destinations by metro, bus, or taxi conveniently in even less time.
PARIS AT YOUR FEET:
Paris is made for strolling; the best way to discover its pleasures is with your feet. The river Seine and the Ile St-Louis are ten minutes down Boulevard Henri IV. Pass by way of Bertillon’s famed ice cream (at your own risk) then continue on to the magnificent landmark, Notre Dame. Keep walking and soon you’ll have to decide between getting an eyeful in the Louvre or lolling in the Tuileries gardens. When you’re tired, hop the métro and return chez vous in ten minutes. Two of Paris’s best museums are in the Marais ten minutes by foot from your door. The Musée Carnavelet beautifully presents the history of Paris, and the Musée Picasso houses the genius’s largest collection in the world. Ten minutes further along rue des Francs Bourgeois brings visitors to the high tech Centre Pompidou, among the most visited cultural attractions in Paris.
