'STYLISH ARCHITECT'S APARTMENT'-MARAIS/BASTILLE

4th Arrondissement Pompidou Le Marais Apartment Rental Photos and Description

This meticulously-maintained, stylish, architect-owned apartment puts you right where you want to be at the junction of two famous historical districts--Le Marais and La Bastille--in the heart of romantic Paris!

The 34 sq. meter (375 sq. ft.) second-floor apartment (with full-size elevator) is handsomely-furnished and perfect for couples, individuals, or a couple of friends wanting a vibrant Paris holiday from a charming, quiet perspective.

The owners' complete floor-to-ceiling renovation included eliminating a dividing wall to fashion a bright and roomy open studio featuring a fully-equipped modern kitchen, solid oak flooring and ancient wooden beams. The modern remodel and 1790's original beams make a stunning combination!

The elegant modernist décor will delight the artist/decorator in you while the ancient bones of the building will satisfy your inner historian. Renters report that the handsome, spacious, light-infused pied-à-terre delights them in every way, especially as they fall asleep beneath centuries-old beams--10 feet above--from the comfort of an extra-firm modern queen bed.

You will be a resident of a private cobblestone pedestrian-only passageway suffused with history and exceptional charm, even by Paris standards. (The photo chosen by Airbnb to illustrate the Bastille neighborhood was taken at our door: each day tourists and Parisians alike discover and photograph the hidden Cour Damoye. Several movies have even been filmed in the famous passageway.)

The wisteria-adorned sanctuary--gated nightly to insure tranquility--is steps from the bustle of the city, the Bastille Opera, world-class restaurants, hot new bistros, sidewalk cafés, the Musée Picasso, the Musée Carnavalet and the biggest roving open-air food market in Paris! (So, will you use your gourmet kitchen for microwaving specialties from the food emporia surrounding you, or for preparing from-scratch meals from the fabulous outdoor market?)

A Foodie Fantasy: Many widely-lauded new eateries are nearby. A few examples are: Septime (and its new wine bar), Bones, Au Passage, le Vieux Chene, Paris/Hanoi, Café des Musées, le Verre Volé, Bistrot Paul Bert, Le '6' Paul Bert, Pierre Sang at Oberkampf and la Cave de l'Insolite. Then there are famous old standbys, also minutes away, such as Bofinger and l'Ambroisie. In March, 2013, the most famous three-star chef, Alain Ducasse, opened his first and only chocolate 'factory' and boutique, one minute from our apartment on rue de la Roquette!

A major Métro and bus hub are also a minute away, so getting anywhere in Paris is as easy as un, deux, trois!

We are happy to welcome you to the delights of our neighborhood and to our beautiful Perfect Paris Rental.

Guestbook comments from the manager
We are in our 40's and this was our "2nd Honeymoon" in Paris. We spent the first one in Paris also but at a 5-star hotel. It cost us a fortune and although it was pretty elegant, it was cold and fussy and expensive. We wanted to try something different this time and we both think that we hit the jackpot!! We loved the amazing combination of old ceiling beams and modern kitchen and even two Tolomeo reading lamps. We're designers and we have those same classic lamps in our home! Our hearts were won right there. The amazing overall design is an award winner, the space has been so well used and so amazingly planned and it is filled with light. It is really really amazing. Then the little cobblestone alleyway is to die for, we thought we'd died and gone to heaven when we first saw it. The location, right there in the heart of Paris and next to an amazing food market every Sunday is very cool. Maybe we'll tell our friends about this find or can we keep this amazing secret place in Paris just for us? Melinda and arnie, we love your apartment!! We'll be back for many more honeymoons.

We spend 3 months a year in our gorgeous apartment maintaining it scrupulously for ourselves and for our guests. Arnie is an architect and Melinda (who has a background in graphic design) is a free-lance writer specializing in France. We completely designed and renovated the apartment for discriminating guests, like us. Our on-site manager helps you settle in and is always available. You won't be disappointed; it's better than the photos can show.

Melinda & Arnie purchased this apartment in 2006

We fell in love with the Cour Damoye by chance one day many years ago. We thought it was the most magical street in Paris. When an apartment came available we couldn't resist!

This is a gated cobblestone private street right in the heart of Paris!

OUR STAY COULDN'T HAVE BEEN BETTER!

Our stay couldn't have been better!
  • 5 of 5
What a fabulous apartment - and what terrific owners! The apartment was beautiful, stylish, and convenient. The kitchen was a dream with modern appliances and lots of good light. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding was top notch. Everything was well-maintained and the owners' attention to detail was evident in every corner of the apartment.

The bookshelf was full of helpful city guides, maps, and interesting reading material where we discovered some really fun walks, nearby restaurants, and attractions. Twice a week there is a giant open air market that is literally 1 minute away where we purchased fresh fish, beautiful vegetables, and homemade pates and artisanal cheeses. We even found a local jazz club (Atelier Charrone) that had jazz every night of the week.

I will definitely recommend this apartment to my friends and family. We had a wonderful time and I'm sure you will too!

INDEED, THE PERFECT PARIS RENTAL

  • 5 of 5
We recently returned to the US from a wonderful week in the Perfect Paris apartment. We feel so fortunate to have found this lovely apartment on a gated lane in the Marais/Bastille area. The apartment was modern, comfortable, light and airy with tasteful decor. The kitchen was well stocked and the appliances were easy to operate with the owners' detailed instruction guides.

The location was perfect as well, as the apartment is located just a few steps from the metro and bus lines and within walking distance of all types of restaurants, shops and places of interest.

We must also add that the owners are wonderful people with whom to do business. They responded promptly to our questions and offered a wealth of information about their favorite places to visit or eat. They have included all manner of guide books, etc. in the apartment which we also found helpful. Their attention to detail and caring made for a wonderful week in their beautiful city.

We will not hesitate to recommend this apartment to family and friends and hope someday to return!

OUR SECOND VISIT TO THE PERFECT APARTMENT

  • 5 of 5
A second visit to our favorite city and our favorite apartment was as delightful, but maybe even better, than the first. Two years have not changed this place because Arnie and Melinda take fantastic care of it. It felt like coming home to a familiar and very extraordinary place that was waiting just for us. We feel lucky each time we come through the gates, dividing the Cour Damoye from the hoi polloi, and walk down our private cobbled street to take the elevator to our comfortable, roomy, beloved Paris home. There's so much to do in the neighborhood that it's often hard to get to see any of the rest of Paris, plus we would need to spend many more weeks here in order to take it all in. This time we had just 7 days and nights and we explored the 11th Arrondissement since we'd read about so many great new restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Several are destinations for foodies from all over the world, so we reserved a couple of choice places (Septime, Bones) before we even arrived. We also looked in the apartment guide and found other fabulous neighborhood spots to eat and shop. We recommend spending time reading the thorough guides to the apartment and to the neighborhood that Arnie and Melinda have assembled. We really enjoyed the Carnavalet History of Paris museum this time, 5 minutes from the apartment. We also were lucky enough to have ordered tickets in advance for an opera at the Bastille Opera House, literally out the door of the apartment. First class opera, a Paris heartbeat away! In all, we could not be happier with Perfect Paris Rental and we plan to come back as long as Arnie and Melinda will have us. Who wouldn't want to stay here? Just one caution: book far in advance. We didn't get our first choice for dates this year because they were booked so far in advance. But our second choice dates worked out beautifully.

CHARMING WELL LIT FLAT IN BASTILLE/MARAIS

  • 5 of 5
Melinda's flat is extremely well maintained, is full of natural light, and sits on a charming cobblestoned street just steps from Place de La Bastille. On the weekend, the bustling Richard Lenoir street market is just steps from the flat. Many restaurants and shops are in the surrounding neighborhood, but a ten minute walk down St Antoine takes you into the heart of the Marais and Place des Vosges area. For those using this flat as a base for tourism, it's right by Line 1 which connects many major tourist sights. It's also close to other metro lines and close to convenient grocery shopping and take out options, for nights you want to stay in. Downstairs an old lady will sometimes open up her tea house. The mystery is when! The street is gated, which is helpful since the Bastille area can sometimes have a mixed, loud partygoing crowd! It's not noisy in the flat however.
A perfect option for my solo Paris stay for a conference and a personal visit.

CENTRAL LOCATION, PRIVATE PASSAGEWAY, GREAT DESIGN

  • 5 of 5
Full disclosure: Melinda and Arnie are San Francisco neighbors we've known for many years and Arnie was our chosen architect for our house renovation.

We were also their first guests after their Paris renovation was completed, seven years ago. This recent stay was our second in their wonderful Paris apartment and we were so excited to return.
The apartment still seems new and everything we liked still holds true seven years later: the great central location, the quiet private passageway, the bright and open living area, the terrific kitchen, the comfortable bed and the overall design. The neighborhood has a varied local “vibe” from a farmer’s market to bistros and local independent shops.

The apartment is a perfect base from which to explore every part of Paris. Transportation is steps away. Then, at the end of a full day of exploring, coming home to a terrific apartment puts the icing on the Paris cake.

We'll be back, we hope, many times!

IT IS INDEED PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5
Tucked away in a hidden cobble stone pedestrian only street just off the Bastille, this secure third floor studio apartment, accessible by stairs or elevator, is just as the owners describe, perfect! Melinda and Arnie are a delight, sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for the 'City of Light,' and of course their lovely apartment. The couple redesigned the living space several years ago drawing on their professional design and architectural skills. Every detail is thoughtfully considered, creating an elegant, warm and inviting apartment, just as described on the website. A comprehensive guidebook written by the owners provides detailed instruction for each aspect of living in the home. Support is available directly with the owners or with the professional property manager, available by email or by phone. We found Melinda to be prompt in response, genuine in her ongoing regard for our time in Paris, and helpful in all ways.

We rented this lovely space for the full month of April this year, and found its location unbeatable. Essentially in the Marais, we were within walking distance of the Opera, many museums, historical parks and squares, and lots of shopping, grocery stores, patisseries, and wonderful restaurants. We often shopped at the roving food market at Richard-Lenoir (one block away), for quiet dinners at the apartment, cooking in the apartment's well stocked kitchen. Notre Dame and the Ile de la Cite is just a 15 minute walk through wonderfully historic areas. For longer trips, the metro station is a few steps away.

We just can't say enough about our overall experience with the 'Perfect Paris Rental.' If you're looking for a perfectly located, elegant studio apartment in Paris, this is it.

LOCATION:

Located in the heart of Paris, Cour Damoye spokes off the bustling hub of Place de la Bastille, linking both the Marais and Bastille neighborhoods. The cobblestone pedestrian-only passageway is movie-set perfect. Our quiet secluded oasis is even gated nightly to maintain its privacy. Explore the stimulating Marais, take a ten-minute stroll to the Seine, Notre-Dame, or the Ile St.-Louis, or check out the program at the Opéra Bastille. All of Paris, plus world-class opera and dance are steps from your door. For those in the know, Cour Damoye is one of the most desirable locations in Paris

COUR DAMOYE:

Enter Cour Damoye through the archway at 12 Place de la Bastille. The up-to-the-minute Bastille quartier transforms magically into the tranquil charm and intimate scale of turn-of-the-century Paris. The delightful architecture of wisteria-trimmed buildings, built from 1790to 1890, complements the secluded cobbled street, which belongs exclusively to its residents each evening. The perfect setting for a Parisian period piece, Cour Damoye, indeed, hosted many a movie crew prior to its 1999 restoration. Now, in addition to residential space, it hosts artists, architects, and galleries in ground-floor ateliers that a century ago housed craftsmen's workshops.

NEIGHBORHOOD:

Beyond the tree-lined plaza outside Cour Damoye is the Bastille’s most imposing neighbor, L’Opéra Bastille. This cultural edifice, Europe’s largest and most frequented opera house, opened in 1989 to celebrate the bicentennial of the storming of the Bastille. It is both home to the Paris Opera and a preeminent destination for world-class ballet.Cour Damoye is at the edge of the 11th arrondissement, across one street from the 4th arrondissement, the famed Marais. On this very street—Boulevard Richard-Lenoir—a minute from your doorstep, you will discover Paris’s biggest and best roving street market! On Thursdays and Sundays, over 200 vendors proffer cheeses, prepared dishes, charcuterie, fruits, veggies, fresh fish: everything required to prepare a French feast chez vous in our modern kitchen. When you prefer dining out, cross Richard-Lenoir and order justly famous seafood at nearby Bofinger, Paris’s oldest brasserie. When only the best will do, spend the euros you’re saving staying in the studio on a 3-star meal at the renowned L’Ambroisie, one of only ten 3-star restaurants in Paris, and only a five-minute stroll away in Place des Vosges. Should the expensive menu dampen your appetite, console yourself on a bench in Paris’s most stunning square and count your own lucky stars. Innumerable renowned eateries—simple or elegant—are nearby. Cooking in or eating out: that is the question!

TRANSPORTATION:

Befitting its status as one of the city’s major crossroads, Place de la Bastille abounds in handy transportation options. The Métro Bastille (served by three lines) and a 24-hour taxi rank are both just outside Cour Damoye. No fewer than eight bus lines also stop here. For instance, climb aboard the #87 and descend in front of the Eiffel Towel in about twenty minutes. Or get to most of Paris's other important destinations by metro, bus, or taxi conveniently in even less time.

PARIS AT YOUR FEET:

Paris is made for strolling; the best way to discover its pleasures is with your feet. The river Seine and the Ile St-Louis are ten minutes down Boulevard Henri IV. Pass by way of Bertillon’s famed ice cream (at your own risk) then continue on to the magnificent landmark, Notre Dame. Keep walking and soon you’ll have to decide between getting an eyeful in the Louvre or lolling in the Tuileries gardens. When you’re tired, hop the métro and return chez vous in ten minutes. Two of Paris’s best museums are in the Marais ten minutes by foot from your door. The Musée Carnavelet beautifully presents the history of Paris, and the Musée Picasso houses the genius’s largest collection in the world. Ten minutes further along rue des Francs Bourgeois brings visitors to the high tech Centre Pompidou, among the most visited cultural attractions in Paris.
