I grew up in St. Croix and became a contractor and built Aqua Blue Villa and other homes on the island. I currently live on St. Croix and travel the mainland and other carribbean islands.
Martin Massicott purchased this villa in 2006
After living here for many years and visiting the eastern part of the island, my dream was to own property and build a beautiful villa. This area is unique with it's natural beauty of the carribbean sea and rolling hillsides.
I chose this end of the island to build this villa because it is minutes from Point Udall which is the eastern most point in the U.S.A. There is a sundial known as the Millennium Monument built above Point Udall for the New Year's celebration in 2000. It marks the azimuth of the first U.S. sunrise of that year. The area has breath taking views and private beaches which are accessible to the public free of charge. All beaches in St. Croix are public. There is no admission for parking, sunbathing, or swimming.
Upon arrival in St. Croix, Helena met us at the airport which led to three trips because we were all on different flights. What a wonderful person. I was the first to arrive. So we went shopping for birthday favors while waiting for my cousins plan to arrive. She drove us around and shared a lot of information with us while traveling to the beautiful Aqua Blue Villa. Words cannot describe how beautiful this place is. Pictures on the internet are not exaggerated. Later the same night, Helena went back to the airport to pick up my daughter and husband. She showed them around and made sure they knew where the grocery store was. I commend Helena on her customer service tactics. Wonderful person. I think we visited every restaurant, beach and touring area that she shared with us. The location and amenities were great. We stayed by the pool side almost the entire night the first night we were there. Everyday was a joy. There were a couple of items that concerned us during the stay. First thing was the Mosquitos , they ate us alive. They were very small and we could barely see them. At first we thought they were bed bugs until we saw them all over the dining room table. We had to take the table cloths and napkins off table. The other thing was the air conditioning system. AC was only in the bedrooms. The house is too large and the weather is too hot not to have ac in the entire house. We had to let windows up at night to cool off and that's probably when the Mosquitos came in. Other than those few things, the place was wonderful. I would revisit on the condition that the ac is in place and Mosquitos are under control. Truly management is aware of these problems because the villa is on the water and the sun comes up and out very early in the morning.
We truly had the best vacation in this beautiful home in beautiful St. Croix. The owner met us at the airport and led the way to the house. After arriving she showed us around and gave us tips on things to do and places to visit. We were pleasantly surprised that the house was much larger than the pictures portray. Everything was very clean, the kitchen was stocked with all the cooking utensils needed and the outdoor grill became our favorite means of cooking. We spent the majority of our time by the pool, soaking up the sunshine and relaxing with delicious Cruzan rum. The property is a vacation all on its own. We actually spent 3 days at home and never left....it was wonderful. When we did go out we enjoyed cruising around, stopped in Christiansted and Frederiksted to see the sites and drove through the rain forest. The people of St. Croix are most friendly and helpful, we were always very comfortable and never felt out of place. This home has absolutely everything you need to have a relaxing luxurious vacation. High end property, very clean and the location is perfect. I would highly recommend this property.....it's a beautiful home.
From the moment you step foot inside the front door and look through the back end of the house double doors and see the pool and ocean, you know that you made the right decision with this house. The views are amazing and the feel of comfort is also amazing. This house has everything you could ever dream of for Caribbean living.
Helene and Martin were wonderful people...Our luggage did not arrive with us and was going to come in on a later flight 4 hours later...Helene offered to wait with us at the airport until it arrived...but we decided it would be better to go on to the house and come back later for our luggage...Helene and Martin made us feel at home and took us from running 100 mph to a more relaxing Caribbean state of mind.
We took early morning walks daily...enjoying the views and soaking in Island living. The location is perfect, It's private, away from it all but yet close enough to do all that you want. We searched every property on the Island when deciding were to stay and could not find anything close to what this property offers. To give you an Ideal of how wonderful this Villa is...we did not leave the Villa for three and a half days...we had everything we needed there. We would ask each other often...do you want to get out and do something...and we would give each other a look that said...NO...I'm doing just fine right here. When we finally got out and toured the island and other things...the best part was getting back to the Villa.
Little did we know when we booked this Villa, that we would spend 85 percent of our time outside on the deck and pool area...soaking up the morning and evening sun with the views of the ocean...what a wonderful place that was well thought out and planned. The welcome fruit basket and bottle of rum was very thoughtful and nice...
I could go on and on about this Villa...I'm already dreaming about staying there again...and of course like many other guest have mentioned before, the hardest thing is leaving...wow...I'm counting the days before I return. A Fabulous place, in a Fabulous location.
Beautiful villa on an epic location. Million dollar view of the Caribbean sea. Majestic sunrise and breathtaking sunsets. Luxurious and masterfully designed, everything was just perfect during our stay. How we wish we could have stayed just a little bit longer!
My 3 girlfriends and I rented this property for a week to celebrate our 5oth. The villa was beautiful and spacious - it can easily accomodate 8 guests or more. We loved the secluded, East End location. It is underdeveloped and undiscovered; it was fun exploring the hillsides in our rented Jeep. Ask the owners about the Duchess' Estate - you can't miss this property as you're walking or driving home.. I would definitely rent a car. The island is small and easy to navegate but public transport is not really an option.
Having said that, Helene and Martin were so gracious for picking us up at the airport . No sooner had they dropped off the first guest when they received the call from the second shift. They were so pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. The rum and fruit basket gift was a thoughtful touch.
The villa grounds were equally enchanting. They provided all sorts of flaura and fauna. Helene even gave us a demo on sunburn treatment, using an aloe vera plant from the garden. She cut, peeled and applied the natural skin soother to our fried backs and shoulders.. What a Godsend!
We ladies spent lots of time lounging- "clubbing" poolside with blended drinks and tunes from the radio. The pool is large and secluded - great for doing laps or just taking in the Caribbean views. Please apply sunscreen liberally!
My one and only one disappointment was with the water quality by the villa. There was a lot of algae and the conditions were not suitable for swimming. Further down by the Divi Resort the water was better but not great. Hence,, another reason for a car - a 10 minute ride in either direction will bring you to some great beaches.
Other activities/attractions worth investigating are the Day Sail to Buck Island. We booked ours through Big Beards - great time! A quick drive to Point Udall is a great foto op. Check out Cramer Park on your way to the landmark. There were lots of slanders relaxing at the picnic/beach grounds. All the restaurants were great. Try Leni's Mexican Cantini in Christiansted for a cheap, delicious meal. Just prepare yourself for outdoor, picnic tables and roaming rowdy roosters...and Leni (lol)! Another crowd pleaser was The Deep End at The Tamarind Reef. Bring your snorkeling equipment and towel. Pool and beach are available to all restaurant guests (ALL Day)! I'll let you discover your own favorites- there are certainly plenty available.
This was our first trip to St. Croix and based on other trips taken elsewhere, we decided to stay once again in a house rather than a hotel. It was a decision we are so glad we made!
The owners were so gracious, accommodating and helpful, and the home? As stated in the review title, fabulous! It was clean, comfortable, and definitely a place we are planning on booking again. The deck and pool were a touch of luxury, from watching the ocean while enjoying morning coffee to taking a refreshing dip after a day of island fun.
The location was exactly what we were looking for – a happy medium, not too far from Christiansted and not in a busy area. There are some really good restaurants nearby, Blue Water Terrace and Duggan’s to name a couple. One of the perks of staying in the house was being able to bring home the leftovers from the generous restaurant meals, getting another lunch or dinner out of them.
We are working out the logistics so we can enjoy another stay in that beautiful home!
