Mike & Leecia didn't grow up in NYC but they've come to love the vibrant life of one of the world's great cities. They own a mid-century modern furnishings business called I Like Mike's Mid-Century Modern with a by-appointment showroom on the first floor of their Brooklyn brownstone (come visit!), and enjoy a busy neighborhood life with their young daughter and very friendly dog Lucy.
Leecia & Mike purchased this apartment in 2005
This house has a great location, near the subway and other attractions--like a playground and tennis court--and also provides the unique brownstone experience that you can't get in any other kind of dwelling. It's house living in the heart of the city. Stuyvesant Heights is a lovely historic area, rich in trees, churches, and brownstones--and it offers a retreat from the intensity of Manhattan while also being conveniently close.
This apartment has not one but two skylights, in addition to the two large windows. It has been restored with unusual care, with attention to comfort and detail.
We had a great stay. The apartment is very comfortable; a good bed for the two of us (plenty big and comfy); nice bathroom and shower; good little kitchen. Just as advertised! Temperature in the room was perfect - not too hot; not too cold. (Note it was less than 10 degrees Fahrenheit some of the nights!) We enjoyed the neighborhood. It was nice to get some sense of life in NYC outside of Manhattan. Our host Leecia, who lives downstairs with her husband and daughter, was terrific. The Utica and Kingston/Throop subway stops are a short walk away. We loved the coffee shop (Brunswick Cafe) just around the corner -- we had breakfast there twice. Food was not complicated but special and very tasty. Regular latte was very good and chai tea latte was terrific. We also enjoyed Peaches Restaurant, once for breakfast and once for lunch. And we had a nice walk one morning to Crown Heights where we enjoyed a good bagel and terrific fresh OJ at Holesome Bagel on Kingston. The hand-drawn neighborhood map in the room was very helpful. To get to the house, we took the air train and subway to and from JFK with ease even with snow and ice on the ground and suitcases in tow. I highly recommend this rental.
This was my third time returning to this property and as usual, it was perfect. Super clean, great area and amazing hosts. Leecia is an extremely gracious host and is always willing to accommodate your needs. I highly recommend this property for travellers to the city. Its a super quick subway ride right to Manhattan and easy ride to JFK. I highly recommend this property to anyone. My only negative is that it gets booked up fast.
Leecia was very accommodating and was super helpful. I enjoyed my stay and the apartment is well put together, clean and has everything that you need. The apartment is perfect for one person or a couple and is on a lovely street in Brooklyn in a vibrant area close to transports links (the A Express Train and C Local trains) and good restaurants also. Leecia is sweet and is always on hand if you need her. I would definitely stay here again if the opportunity arose. 5 starts all the way for me.
The studio was exactly what we were looking for. We were travelling with our 4 month old boy who was warmly welcomed. The studio is roomy for a couple and was very clean. The kitchen has all you need. Everything was just as described. Leecia and Mike made us feel comfortable and were very helpfull in finding our way around. We will definitly recommend to friends. It is affordable and parking on the street is pretty easy. The neiborghood is very quiet in general. We tried the restaurant Peaches where we ate well and had very friendly service. The only "not-so" negative comment is that the area might lack of restaurant, coffee place or market variaty. But we found all we need. We will be back.
My boyfriend and I rented this apartment for a long weekend in the city. We were going into Manhattan daily, which was a super easy subway ride from the apartment. It's only a 2 minute walk to the A/C/E line, which will get you almost anywhere in Manhattan that you need to go. Leecia was incredibly welcoming, and had a great write up about the neighborhood so we knew where to get good coffee, drinks, and food. She even offered to let us stay later than the regular check out time, or leave our bags, since she didn't have another renter checking in. Overall the apartment was just perfect. We didn't end up spending a lot of time awake there, but when we did it was very relaxing and homey. Next time we need a place to rent in the city this will be our first choice!
This apartment is perfect for a romantic getaway or for a solo trip. Leecia is a great host and very accomodating. The apartment itself is super clean and extremely comfortable. Was not sure what to expect from the area, but I was pleasantley surprised. Will definitley keep this place in mind for my next visit.
This location is excellent for those who want close 24-hour train access to Manhattan (only 20 minutes on the subway) while also enjoying the easy living of beautiful Brooklyn. Located in the historic Stuyvesant Heights area of Bedford-Stuyvesant, the apartment is on the top floor of a historic brownstone on a classic tree-lined block, and is located between two subway stops that are both an easy 5-minute walk away. A grocery store, cafe and laundromat are around the corner; several excellent restaurants thrive within a 3 blocks of the apartment, and there are many other small, useful shops nearby as well.
