Guestbook comments from the owner
Tranquility on Penobscot Bay was truly a wonderful experience for my entire family! Everything we needed was supplied and the house was very spacious and comfy! All of the beds had great mattresses which was so nice. The kitchen was well stocked. We loved the big yard surrounding the house and the blueberry bushes right off the side porch was an added plus! Every morning my grandchildren went out and picked their own berries for breakfast! We were in the area to attend a wedding at French's Point which was located just a few miles down the road! It was so convenient to participate in wedding events throughout the week! On our one rainy day there, we made a fire and just relaxed in the spacious living area! Loved having a gas grill out on the large deck that wrapped around the house and we used it almost every night! Rocking chairs on the deck for early morning coffee, too! The ages in our family went from 60's down to 1 year old and everyone had the best time ever! Would return to this special home in a heartbeat!

My husband and I grew up and reside in Bucks County Pennsylvania. We have been vacationing in Maine for over 15 years and have established close ties and friendship to its people. I am a registered nurse working as a research coordinator for a large cardiology practice in Philadelphia. My husband is a machinist.

I cannot express the openness and peacefulness one experiences while staying in the Fort Point Cove Cottage. Stockton Springs houses its own lighthouse located in nearby Fort Point State Park, has its own local beaches and is centrally located along the coast: 40 miles to Ellsworth, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Blue Hill and Rockland/Rockport area; 25 miles to Bangor and Camden Hills; and just a hop and a skip to Belfast, known for its wonderful shops and restaurants, Bucksport featuring Fort Knox and the beautiful Penobscot Narrows Bridge, Winterport for its brewery and winery and Searsport with its 8 miles of antique shopping, its Maritime Museum and Moose Point State Park.

No doubt that summer is fantastic in the midcoast and the Stockton Springs/Searsport area is conveniently located so you can enjoy a wealth of events within a stone’s throw of away… Just a small sampling include:

1. Maine's Lobster Festival in Rockland (7/30 - 8/3/2014).

2. Camden’s Windjammer Days (8/29 - 8/31/2014).

3. Maine's Celtic Celebration in Belfast (7/18 - 7/20/2014).

4. Bucksport’s Bay Festival (7/25 - 7/26/2014).

5. Bangor’s American Music Festival (8/22 - 8/24/2014).

6. Machias Blueberry Festival (8/15 -8/17/2014).

7. Blue Hill Fair where E.B. White was inspired to write 'Charlotte's Web' on Labor Day Weekend.

8. Searsport's Fling into Fall Festival on Columbus Day Weekend.

Let’s not forget our four season climate… Spring offers budding trees, blooming flowers and fresh maple syrup, Fall is filled with the vibrant changing colors of our abundant hardwood trees and the best time to enjoy fresh apple cider, Winter offers snowshoeing and crosscountry skiing at Sears Island and many of the area parks, with downhill skiing nearby at the Camden Snowbowl and Herman Mountain. Many of the Carriage Paths at Acadia National Park are also open for crosscountry skiing or snowshoeing.

FORT POINT COVE COTTAGE IS AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5
Nestled in a serene setting, the cottage is very comfortable, clean, and cozy. It has all the amenities of home and more. The water view from the deck is fantastic especially during sunrise and sunset. Darlene is an exceptional hostess, sending us information about the area, and welcoming us at the cottage with a handwritten note and delicious bottle of blueberry wine!

THE WEATHER WAS:
Rain only 1 day out of 9. Temps 50 at night mid 70s during day.
OUR FAVORITE ADVENTURES:
Touring towns of Rockland, Camden and Mt. Battie (fantastic views), Belfast. Great shopping for Maine made cratfs and seeing beautiful Victorian architecture.
Penobscot Narrows Observatory.
Bar Harbor and Olis Trolley 2 1/2 hour tour of Cadillac Mountain.
Campobello, NB (remember your passport and turn off your cell so you're not charged international rates).
GREAT RESTAURANTS WE DISCOVERED:
Rockland - Archers on the Pier
Camden - Waterfront Restaurant
Belfast - Darby's Pub, Weathervane Restaurant, and Alexia's Pizza
Stockton Springs - Ice cream at Good Kettle, live lobsters at Shutes Seafood (right acoss Route 1) for $6 a pound (remember to add salt to the water)

GREAT STAY FOR FAMILIES!

  • 5 of 5
We had a most wonderful time in Stockton Springs. This part of the US we have never been to so far, so we didn't quite know what to expect of Maine. It turned out to be spectacular and was well worth the trip.

The property perfectly met the needs of our family of five, and the recent refurbishing was a nice surprise. The kids enjoyed the house (and the daily passing train in the distance) very much, and we explored Belfast, Fort Knox, Acadia National Park and all that.

Darlene took great care of us - communication was flawless, comprehensive and timely. We can only recommend to stay at this beautiful property.

Owner's Response: Thank you Roland for such a wonderful review. I was so excited to receive guests from Germany. It was a pleasure hosting you and your family. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Maine as she is a beautiful state. I loved hearing that your children enjoyed the passing-by of the train....one of the reasons that enticed me to purchase the cottage. Thank you for choosing us as we always welcome our guests to return to the cove. The Keepers of Fort Point Cove Cottage

A GREAT RELAXING EXPERIENCE IN A NICE HOME!

  • 5 of 5
The home was clean, comfortable, quiet and well appointed. It was a good 'home base' for us. We were sightseeing from Portland to Acadia and it was wonderful to return to at the end of the day. The weather was wonderful and we sat on the deck with a cup of coffee and came inside at dark and watched TV. My sister, mother and I stayed four days and barely scratched the surface of everything the home and area offers. This would also be a great rental for an active family. The kitchen was fully appointed. We bought groceries and it was nice to have a leisurely breakfast at the house...and off we went antiquing, driving The Loop in Acacia, enjoying wonderful restaurants, exploring the quaint villages, etc.

The owners were wonderful to work with and the house was ready and welcoming. Maine offers so much to do and there is something for everyone. I highly recommend this property. Our only regret - not scheduling more vacation time!

WONDERFUL COTTAGE ON PENOBSCOT BAY

  • 5 of 5
We were so impressed with this rental....the private location with sweeping views of the bay from the wrap around deck and lots of windows. It is delightfully furnished and comfortable. In the evenings, my family especially enjoyed the huge flat screen TV with surround sound! We loved to see the family of wild turkeys in the back yard daily!

We rented bikes and a scooter in Camden. We visited Belfast several times and enjoyed the galleries, gift shops, and the wonderful food co-op.
In Bangor, less than an hour away, my husband stopped in the casino and I walked around the quaint town.
We swam at the nearby beach one day and took the ferry to Islesboro another day.
There are many local restaurants to have lobster and seafood. Lobster rolls are plentiful everywhere. There is a wonderful take out restaurant close by the house called the Good Kettle. You must check it out. There are others, too.

Darlene, the owner, made sure we had everything we needed and that we were comfortable during our stay. She really wanted us to enjoy our vacation and relax.

I recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a clean and bright house in a central location to rent for their vacation! It's quiet and peaceful, has lovely views of the bay, and is great for spending time with your family or friends!

WEDDING WEEK IN STOCKTON SPRINGS

  • 5 of 5
We recently made our first trip to Maine for a wedding at French's Point in Stockton Springs. This cabin was the perfect place to rent with another couple to explore Maine. Fort Point Cove Cottage is spacious and has all of the furnishings needed to make you feel at home during your stay. My favorite part of each day was sitting in the Adirondack chairs with a cup of coffee enjoying the view. The nice part of this cottage is that each area and room has a view so you are constantly surrounded by the serenity.

We learned how quickly the weather can change in Maine (at least for a group of Texans)--shorts, to pants, to jacket all within the hour, so bring lots of layers! Bar Harbor and Acadia were nice day trips from the cabin and the food everywhere was wonderful. The property is very well maintained and the owner was very helpful and accommodating with our stay. We hope to return in the future to Maine and Fort Point Cove Cottage.

PEACEFUL AND SERENE WITH SPECTACULAR SUNRISES

  • 5 of 5
Stockton Springs is a quintessential Maine town where one finds cabins in the woods and people walk the quiet roads to the parks - enjoying the gardens, meadows and pastures on their way to the Bay; a town where friends and non-friends greet each other as they walk/bike/hike/drive by with a smile and a wave of the hand. Where everyone knows the other one and they chat together when they meet in the General Store, they look out for and help each other.

What a wonderful relaxing weekend spent at this Bayside Cottage. This home is spacious, comfortable and clean. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck in those comfy "Lobster Red Adirondack Chairs" while lobsters were steaming on the grill. Private and serene. If you don't want to cook, located conveniently up the street is the "The Good Kettle" that offers delicious home cooked takeout meals with a nice wine selection. Our evenings were spent reading a good book in front of the fireplace or watching "On Golden Pond" on the large screen TV with surround sound......can't ask for a more relaxing vacation. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.
