About Owner/Property Manager

My husband and I grew up and reside in Bucks County Pennsylvania. We have been vacationing in Maine for over 15 years and have established close ties and friendship to its people. I am a registered nurse working as a research coordinator for a large cardiology practice in Philadelphia. My husband is a machinist.

Owner/Property Manager purchased this house in 2012

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Stockton Springs

I cannot express the openness and peacefulness one experiences while staying in the Fort Point Cove Cottage. Stockton Springs houses its own lighthouse located in nearby Fort Point State Park, has its own local beaches and is centrally located along the coast: 40 miles to Ellsworth, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Blue Hill and Rockland/Rockport area; 25 miles to Bangor and Camden Hills; and just a hop and a skip to Belfast, known for its wonderful shops and restaurants, Bucksport featuring Fort Knox and the beautiful Penobscot Narrows Bridge, Winterport for its brewery and winery and Searsport with its 8 miles of antique shopping, its Maritime Museum and Moose Point State Park.

What makes this house unique

No doubt that summer is fantastic in the midcoast and the Stockton Springs/Searsport area is conveniently located so you can enjoy a wealth of events within a stone’s throw of away… Just a small sampling include:

1. Maine's Lobster Festival in Rockland (7/30 - 8/3/2014).

2. Camden’s Windjammer Days (8/29 - 8/31/2014).

3. Maine's Celtic Celebration in Belfast (7/18 - 7/20/2014).

4. Bucksport’s Bay Festival (7/25 - 7/26/2014).

5. Bangor’s American Music Festival (8/22 - 8/24/2014).

6. Machias Blueberry Festival (8/15 -8/17/2014).

7. Blue Hill Fair where E.B. White was inspired to write 'Charlotte's Web' on Labor Day Weekend.

8. Searsport's Fling into Fall Festival on Columbus Day Weekend.

Let’s not forget our four season climate… Spring offers budding trees, blooming flowers and fresh maple syrup, Fall is filled with the vibrant changing colors of our abundant hardwood trees and the best time to enjoy fresh apple cider, Winter offers snowshoeing and crosscountry skiing at Sears Island and many of the area parks, with downhill skiing nearby at the Camden Snowbowl and Herman Mountain. Many of the Carriage Paths at Acadia National Park are also open for crosscountry skiing or snowshoeing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Tranquility on Penobscot Bay was truly a wonderful experience for my entire family! Everything we needed was supplied and the house was very spacious and comfy! All of the beds had great mattresses which was so nice. The kitchen was well stocked. We loved the big yard surrounding the house and the blueberry bushes right off the side porch was an added plus! Every morning my grandchildren went out and picked their own berries for breakfast! We were in the area to attend a wedding at French's Point which was located just a few miles down the road! It was so convenient to participate in wedding events throughout the week! On our one rainy day there, we made a fire and just relaxed in the spacious living area! Loved having a gas grill out on the large deck that wrapped around the house and we used it almost every night! Rocking chairs on the deck for early morning coffee, too! The ages in our family went from 60's down to 1 year old and everyone had the best time ever! Would return to this special home in a heartbeat!

Every Leaf was a Flower

  • 5 of 5
Our first trip to Maine and as a bonus, Autumn. Due to airline issues we arrived the first night well after dark so it was not possible to view the harbor or the area. As the sun came up our first morning we were blessed with an artist’s palette. The tide filled the harbor; the colors of the trees brightened the landscape; the beauty that was to be ours for a week role out before our eyes. Stockton Springs was a great location for our adventures, since we wished to explore both North and South. Acadia to Owl’s Head was our wonderland. Oceans, harbors, colors, lighthouses, sailboats, bridges, forts, food, towns, shopping, trains; so much to do so little time! The cottage was everything we expected; well equipped, private, comfortable, warm and inviting. Our only regret is that we spent so much time enjoying the area the time at the cottage was limited to sleeping and breakfast. The memories of the cottage, the area and the fun of an extended family coming together in a warn environment will last a lifetime.

Owner's Response: Wow, you really captured Maine showing off her best assets. I'm pleased to hear that you all had a wonderful vacation, especially one to remember. We agree that there is so much to see and do that it's impossible to cover it all in a week. We hope you find your way back to the cove to take some time to relax and enjoy the surrounding beauty of our Fort Point Cove Cottage. Thank you for a beautifully written review......Darlene.

Great Getaway Vacation Spot!

  • 5 of 5
We had the best family vacation at this location. From the moment we walked through the front door and saw the beautiful view out the back glass patio doors. The house itself is warm and inviting and well maintained. We explored from Arcadia National Park all the way to Boothbay Harbor. We also experienced a lot of great family time as well. We had Bar B Q,s and played lawn games and totally enjoyed our stay! The owner, Darlene, was very accommodating. She informed us of events in the area during our stay, even went out of her way to locate recipe for me to try! We could not have picked a better location for our family to get together!
I would definitely recommend this property. Bob and Bonnie

Owner's Response: Bonnie and Bob,

Thank you for a heartfelt review. It really tickles me to hear how much our guests enjoyed their stay in Midcoast Maine at Fort Point Cove Cottage. Bonnie, this is the first year that we were not able to pick up fresh blueberries as Stewarts Blueberries ran out of fresh on August 25th. Hopefully you'll find your way back to the cove during that 3rd week in August for blueberry harvest and try that fresh blueberry pie recipe. Because you are only the 2nd person I have shared this recipe with, an idea has come to mind to print recipe cards for guests stayng at FPCC. Thank you, Bonnie, for the inspiration! Darlene

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at Fort Point Cove Cottage is a vacation we will never forget. The house was exactly what we wanted and more! We stayed for 7 nights and were sad to say goodbye to this beautiful home. With its stunning views and expansive property, we woke up every morning relaxed and happy ro be there. My in-laws stayed in the master suite which for them with their early nights gave them the privacy and quiet they needed. My husband and I shared the smaller room which was still able to accommodate a king sized bed and a play pen for our toddler. The daybed on the landing was perfect for our 7 yr old daughter. The kitchen was well stocked with all the needed supplies and even had a pantry for all our goodies! Having a dishwasher and washer and dryer were added bonuses. The home was tastefully decorated, had a large 60" tv that the men loved.
The location is fabulous. We spent many days exploring so many places that Maine has to offer. Shopping in Bangor, strolling in the quaint little town of Belfast. Visiting the Hope Elephants which have now been returned to their home in Oklahoma since their caretaker's tragic accidental death this month. The highlight of our trip was Acadia National Park! Just over an hour away, we loved it so much that we actually made the trip twice to get to the amazing Sand Beach. Nearby we also visited the Penobscot Narrows Observatory and Fort Knox, both within 10 minutes from FPCC.
We could have spend many more weeks at this cottage and we would never have been homesick. It really felt like home. I see that the screen doors to the enclosed porch have now been put up. Unfortunately for me while we were there they were not yet in place so I missed out on relaxing on the porch since my toddler kept trying to get away!
All in all a fabulous place to visit. Totally worth the price. We would definitely consider returning there in the future. Darlene the owner is a fabulous hostess and is super accommodating. Thanks Darlene!

I would have never known about the Hope Elephants it it wasn't for you mentioning them as other guests enjoyed visiting them too. Thank you for sharing pictures of your beautiful children. Great stay for families!

  • 5 of 5
We had a most wonderful time in Stockton Springs. This part of the US we have never been to so far, so we didn't quite know what to expect of Maine. It turned out to be spectacular and was well worth the trip.

The property perfectly met the needs of our family of five, and the recent refurbishing was a nice surprise. The kids enjoyed the house (and the daily passing train in the distance) very much, and we explored Belfast, Fort Knox, Acadia National Park and all that.

Darlene took great care of us - communication was flawless, comprehensive and timely. We can only recommend to stay at this beautiful property.

Owner's Response: Thank you Roland for such a wonderful review. I was so excited to receive guests from Germany. It was a pleasure hosting you and your family. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Maine as she is a beautiful state. I loved hearing that your children enjoyed the passing-by of the train....one of the reasons that enticed me to purchase the cottage. Thank you for choosing us as we always welcome our guests to return to the cove. The Keepers of Fort Point Cove Cottage
