Large greatroom w/loft open above. 3BR, 2.5BA sleeps 10+

'Schuss Platz' is a traditional ski chalet with a large deck overlooking the valley. It is located a short walk from the top ski lodge parking lot on a very desirable street.There are 2 bedrooms and 1.5 baths located on the first floor with a greatroom. The cathedral ceiling greatroom has a fireplace, large dining table, bar and a kitchen. There is a large deck across the back with a view of the deer paths through clearings in the woods. Overlooking the greatroom is a large vaulted ceiling loft sleeping/play area adjacent to a bedroom and bath. The loft has sliding glass doors to a balcony at the front. This was originally designed to be a 5 bedroom house but the loft was opened up, as well as, the 2 bedrooms below were enlarged so there is alot of room in this 1800+-SqFt chalet It is tastefully decorated with some antiques co-mingled to give a homey feel. The side entrance opens into a mudroom for boots, coats and laundry. The opposite entrance opens into the greatroom. The house is on pilings with two catwalk entrances (1 with no steps!). Driveway is at street-grade with room for 3 cars.

About Dart Alsmeyer

Hi, we are Helen & Dick and family (3 generations). We puchased this lot decades ago, had a cedar shell erected and have assisted tradesman complete the interior to our liking. It has been a great place for the extended family to gather since they are spread from Philly to North Carolina and this is a good central location. We have enjoyed watching the resort grow and add amenities (especially liked the additional ski slopes and golfing). This property was recently opened up to vacation rentals and look forward to sharing our home away from home.

This is a superbly located chalet on the mountain near the top for views and proximity to the ski slopes. The open floorplan with the greatroom and loft above keeps everybody in close proximity and great for gatherings. There are 2 secluded and somewhat quiet bedrooms at the front of the house for those so inclined to sleep away their time here (not recommended though).

What makes this chalet unique

The gingerbread exterior makes you feel like you are at a Swiss chalet and the theme is carried throughout.

Great Location Near Everything!

Located on a mountain on a quiet street surrounded by lots of family activities with beautiful views, this house provided everything we needed for our vacation! Perfect for our family of four, including two young children. We enjoyed fishing, go-karting, playing at the indoor water park, and taking short drives to Skyline Drive and Luray Caverns. My husband also rode amazing mountain bike trails on the Massanutten property. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking and lots of room to spread out and have privacy. Dart answered all of our questions about the area and the listing description is accurate. He responded promptly and professionally via e-mail and telephone. Plus, this chalet provided the best rates in the entire Shenandoah Valley. Will definitely recommend to family and friends!

Spacious and cozy, a great rental

The photos do not do this lovely home justice. It has an open floor plan, yet still has that cozy and warm feeling you want in a ski house. We stayed for a long weekend with four boys: 18,17,16 & 9. We all had plenty of room to spread out and everyone slept great. The master bedroom is tucked away too so private and has its own tv. The street is lovely, very quiet and close to everything! Dart didn't miss a beat, a coffee starter pack, little shampoos, cleaning supplies. The beds were very comfortable. Awesome mud room for ski stuff too. The fireplace worked great with seasoned wood ready to go. We really enjoyed it and will rent again.

A Great Stay for a Family

This property is accurately depicted on the web site and has a very homely, country comfort feel.
We used it as a place to crash after skiing all day with kids. The price is excellent for families who want a well equipped, comfortable, but economical place to stay while skiing. No big flat screen TV? The 3D HD fireplace was nice to warm up by and talk the night away.

Owner/Manager very helpful and welcoming! Thanks.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children

Great Location !!!!

Thank you for sharing your home in the mountain with us. We were there from 12/21/12 to 1/1/13 celebrating Christmas and New Year with my Mom & Dad, my sister & her 2 kids & a pet. The Grandparents had a nice time watching the kids skiing. The kids had a good old time on the slope and skating and haning out with the cousins. I enjoyed the kids having good time and read my books.

The house has plenty of room for 10 people and a dog. and it is well furnished with everything you will need for cooking. It's nice that hand soap and dish soap are alreay available when we arrived. The best part is that this house is so close to the ski slopes, which was so wonderful when I picked up or dropped off the kids for night skiings.

I would give this house a five star if there was a bigger TV in the family/living room. We celebrated New Year's Eve at the house and it would have been awesome to count down with a bigger TV. Perhaps, Dart should consider a flat panel in the family room. Overall, it was a nice relaxing and restful time with our family. We will definitely come back and would recommend this house to others.

Great vacation lodge

This lodge was very cozy and comfortable. It had plenty of space for my wife, two kids (2 and 4 yrs), dog and I. We enjoyed the fireplace and nice layout of the house. The listing's description of the house was accurate, with photos accurately reflecting the appearance of it. The house was clean, and well maintained. The owner himself was very friendly and helpful in answering any questions or suggesting activities for the family. We came on this visit to primarily use the large indoor waterpark. This was located at the bottom of the mountain so we had a couple mile drive to the bottom which wasn't too long. The waterpark and house both were a perfect vacation for our family. We would definitely come back the next time we decide to vacation at Massenutten.
