Nothing Short of Spectacular

My wife and I (and another couple) just returned from our 8 day stay at Villa Sofia last night. I have never written a review for a hotel, resort, or rental home before, nor have I ever felt the urge to do so. That being said, our experience this past week at Villa Sofia far exceeded all my expectations. First, the house... The pictures DO NOT lie. The bedrooms, bathrooms, dining and cooking areas, pool, and rooftop terrace are all EXACTLY as they appear in the photos. No trick photography using various lenses, lighting, photoshop, etc. The amenities and finishes are comparable to what you would expect to find at a 5-star resort. The bedrooms had both ceiling fans and air conditioners to ensure the perfect sleeping temperature. Additionally, the beds were far more comfortable than you would expect to find in a rental property. Bathrooms were superb (and the showers had GREAT water pressure!). The villa is a 90 second walk down a private path from the beach. Now, if you're looking for a wide, white-sand beach that you might find at one of the bigger resort properties, you will not find it here. Instead, you have two of the most gorgeous natural beaches I have ever had the pleasure of sunning myself on. Both Playa Bonita and Playa Coson are lined with picture-perfect sloping palm trees. There is a huge reef just off shore that kept us busy snorkeling for hours upon hours. Looking just to swim? No worries, there are plenty of natural breaks in the reef allowing you to wade far out into the crystal clear water. The wind picks up a bit in the afternoon on Playa Bonita, so I suggest you walk around the corner to Playa Coson. I could wax on and on about how great the villa, property, and beaches are... But the real beauty of this vacation home is the people and the town. Patrick (the owner) and Michel (property manager) couldn't have been more accommodating. Needless to say, Villa Sofia wouldn't be Villa Sofia without Josephina, our deservingly-appointed "queen of the castle." She made sure that we all stayed well fed (that's an understatement) and well taken care of for the entirety of our stay. She is THE BEST!!! I have visited several other areas of the DR in the past, but none compare in beauty, both of the land and the people, to Las Terenas, Samana, and the other surrounding areas. As we prepared to leave yesterday, it was suggested that we take a look at some other rental homes for our trip next year. No need... Villa Sofia is it!
