Custom home built by the owner in 2004. Rural, country setting in an orchard with Middlebury College just a five minute drive away. This is a quiet neighborhood surrounded by rural estates, and operating farms and orchards. The house has 3 levels with the main living area on the 2nd floor. This is a great space for a relaxing getaway; an artists retreat or for a group of skiers, riders or hikers. Come back after a day of outdoor adventure to warm radiant heat under elm and travertine floors. Several architectural details created from local hardwoods The 2nd level has a large private deck facing west for evening sunsets and bbq grilling. This level includes a fully equipped kitchen, dining and living area with one queen bedroom and a large bathroom/laundry. The shower is floor to ceiling travertine with built in bench. The upper loft is two spaces separated by a curved balcony. One end is for reading relaxing - there's a full couch and a desk. The other loft space has two full size beds tucked out of the way. The first level entry has large built in cubbies and storage spaces for ski gear and backpacks. This level also has a separate queen bedroom with an additional futon. This is a great house to relax, read, write, paint or create. It's also a great jumping off place for a huge variety of activities.
We were in town for a swim meet at Middlebury College and stayed with two other couples. The space was perfect! The home is clearly a labor of love and the custom work is beautiful. The location was great, close to the college and also a perfect street to walk on and enjoy the views. We highly recommend staying here!
A group of us, 2 couples, stayed for a short weekend getaway in January. This house is absolutely perfect for a quiet retreat when you need to unwind. The amenities are fantastic, the house is perfectly comfortable, and the details in the home show how much care and pride the owner takes in the property. Between cooking a great breakfast with local products to watching the cathedral mules in the pen in the farm next door, this home was exactly what we were looking for. I recommend this property to anyone, from families planning a trip or friends looking for a quick weekend vacation. Whenever I visit this side of Vermont, I will return to this home.
My husband, daughter and my 83 year old mother stayed at this delightful Middlebury Carriage House to celebrate our son's winter graduation. It was the perfect place to relax in between festivities, so close to the College and we had some wonderful family dinners. The house is immaculate, the showers are fabulous, the kitchen is both beautifully organized and well-equipped. Plenty of room for all to have private time, yet the open kitchen-living area is great for a gathering. We loved the views from all directions. Would recommend it in any season and hope to return.
My wife and I spent a month in this lovingly and expertly designed and crafted house, situated in the midst of an old apple orchard (our daughter baked a pie and made applesauce when she visited). The neighbor to the south keeps a herd of donkeys, should you happen to be into mid-sized animals.
The owner lives at a distance but is very responsive to renters' needs. When the fridge went out, he called us from Alaska, where he was traveling. By then the housekeeper had brought a chest with 40 pounds of ice in it, called a repairman who was there the next day, and provided a small backup refrigerator in case the primary one went out again (it didn't).
This was as civilized a vacation rental experience as one could ask.
My husband and another couple stayed for a long weekend w/ our dogs. From the moment we pulled up onto the property we were in love. The house is absolutely fantastic! Beautiful layout, CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN, the house was fully equipped and the owner Noel is a complete doll! We rent homes 3xs a year and they have been wonderful but this is by far our favorite! We will be back again soon! Thank you!
Our family spent the Christmas and New Year holidays at this house in Cornwall this year. There was plenty of private space, the kitchen was well-equipped, and the details in the house's architecture were just beautiful. The town of Middlebury -- a five minute drive -- is one of our favorites. We got lots of snow while there, and the driveway plowing was prompt. We found everything we were expecting and more here. Highly recommend!
Middlebury is in the heart of the Champlain Valley and accessible to many activities! The college town offers great restaurants, galleries, shopping, theatre and movies. Cultural and sporting venues are close at hand. Several ski resorts are less than 1 hour away - but you won't need to stay in a cramped condo at the end of the day. Winter and summer climbing in the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks are superb. Lake Champlain is 10 minutes west. Burlington is 45 minutes with all the goods a small city has to offer.
