'The breeze on the porch and lawn is absolutely pacifying and replenishing.'
This house was built by my grandparents in the 60's to retire in the peace and serenity of the Adirondacks. My grandfather loved to fish and hunt. My grandmother loved how the mountains looked different every time she looked out the window. The house was passed down to my parents and now to me. I named the 2 maple trees out front Grandma and Grandpa!
We are dedicated to making this house a comfortable and affordable gettaway.
We have lots of windows to enjoy the 180 degree views of the mountains, including Jay Mountain wilderness and Whiteface Mountain. There are no visible neighbors. Quiet gettaway.
Enjoy the 4 large Maple trees in the fall.
Enjoy the trails all year around.
Clean and well-maintained home.
The house is in the middle of lovely hills and mountains, 10 min to Whiteface and 20 min to lake Placid. A simple, but well appointed, comfortable rental that will meet your needs. Clean and quiet. Really enjoyed our stay. Great communication with Karen made a short stay very pleasant. Highly recommended.
The property listing description was accurate; it was roomy, cozy, clean and comfortable for the family. The owner, Karen was responsive in all of our questions and detailed on the property rental requirements. We ski'd every day from 9am to 4 pm and we had our breakfasts and dinners in the home. The kitchen has all the items you can imagine to prepare a home cooked meal. Since we were so tired at the end of day, we were all in bed at 9pm, the lack of TV was a non issue for my kids. I would highly recommend for any family to rent this property. We had a blast!.
The listing description was perfect for the house and amenities that are included but there is no way to be able to prepare yourself for the time you will have if you stay in this house. The property is well-maintained and clean, the owners are very eco-friendly as well which is a plus. Even though they own 18 acres of land, none of it has been cut down and hunting isn't even allowed.
This house was perfect for my boyfriend and I to stay for a weekend. We went with the wish of wanting a weekend just to ourselves with no disturbances and that is what we got! You won't have to worry about any sort of problems with the house or forgetting something because the homeowners take care of practically everything for you. It was so nice to be able to sit back and relax for a weekend. The views of the mountain all day, every day were beautiful. Even on the day that it rained the clouds made the scenery just as beautiful.
Although the house has three bedrooms, it's easy to turn it into a place for two people. Plus, there is 3G signal there (I have Verizon), so you can use your phone if you really must but no one will tell on you if you say that you don't have signal for the weekend.
There is not a single thing I would change about this house. While we stayed there we walked all the way around the "block" (7 miles) on accident but didn't even mind because the views are always breathtaking. We also went down to where the covered bridge was and swam for hours. We didn't go out to eat at all but we did travel to Lake Placid one day just to canoe for a bit and being on that lake is just as breathtaking.
PLEASE RENT THIS HOUSE! I promise you won't regret it. You won't want to leave!
This cottage is a wonderful home base---for either skiiing or access to ther High Peaks trailheads.
The serenity of the view from the lawn is absolutely healing. The house is exceptionally well equipped, esp. the kitchen. The LR furniture needs a litle upgrading but is certainly functional enough---assuming you will be spending most of your time out of doors. The grounds are well maintained; the owner is very easy to deal with. We have stayed here 5 times!---and each time some new amenity has been added.
There is more road traffic than there used to be, however; so, although the views are unobstructed, traffic sounds (though minimal by any city or suburban standards) may irk you mildly. A little bit more landscaping would be a help to screen out the nearby roads.
Food shopping in Ausable Forks, 6 miles away, is a snap. But the better deal, during the summer, is the Farmers' Market in Keene Valley (Sundays) and Rivermede Farms Market (also in KV)---you will never eat so well again on absolutely healthy, fresh organic food.
This home has a beautiful location with mountains all around. There are no neighbors you can see and just a country road out front. Outstanding star gazing at night. House was exceptionally clean and had everything we needed. Owner was great to work with. Whiteface is 8 miles away and Lake Placed is 20. Great swimming hole is a couple of miles away and many hiking trails are nearby. Frolicking fawn entertainment in the front lawn. Deck with charcoal grill for outdoor eating. Beautiful, peaceful and serene.
This cottage is awesome! From the beautiful mountain views out every window, the fact that you can't see another house at all, and the well-equipped kitchen. There's no wifi so do your planning before you arrive but it was nice to "disconnect" for our stay. If you're a road biker this is a great place to get on lots of awesome routes. Be sure to hit The Downtown Diner in Lake Placid for a great breakfast complete with homemade breads.
