We are family oriented with 2 children, a son 8 yrs and a daughter 4 yrs. I am from our beautiful Island Barbados and my wife is from the French Island of Guadeloupe. We like the beach, boating, sailing, traveling, and enjoy meeting & receiving new people to our Island.

Dunworkin is a 3rd generation family beach house we have enjoyed for 50yrs and still do to this day. We hope you and your family will enjoy it the way we do.

Dunworkin is private and situated on 24,00sq ft of prime beach front with lots of trees. It's unique because of its location on the East Coast of Barbados and offers safe swimming year round and a beautiful beach for sunbathing or for just taking a stroll.

RUSTIC AND PEACEFUL PROPERTY RIGHT ON THE BEACH.

  • 4 of 5
We had a most peaceful and relaxing 5 days at this lovely property, and the location couldn't have been more perfect. It was just what I imagined it would be living right on the beach. Luckily the owners live next door with their lovely little children, but we didn't hear them at all and they didn't interfere with our holiday at all. To the contrary, they were at hand a few times when we wanted to ask their advice about the area, or when we needed extra sun loungers. Very obliging.

In my opinion their description is mainly accurate, but I would have to add that the second bedroom is a lot smaller and somewhat cramped for a second couple if you're used to a hotel style room, but this is Barbados and it is listed as rustic. That said, it was all perfectly clean and well maintained, and the owners couldn't have been more helpful. I would certainly recommend it.

We hired a car for the entire holiday, so had no trouble getting about. It's worth visiting Hunte's Garden, Barbados Wildlife Reserve (a rather quirky zoo), the Round House restaurant for a delicious evening meal in Bathsheba, and many of the beautiful beaches and coves. Bottom Bay has the most amazing turquoise waters.

Don't just sunbathe on the beach all day, get out there and explore.

AS ADVERTISED!

  • 5 of 5
Our family (Myself, my wife, three kids, and grandmom (4th kid)) spent a wonderful 11 days at "Dunworkin" cottage. We could not have asked for a better visit to the wonderful island of Barbados. We have taken to exploring the islands of the Caribbean for the past few years and it's quite rare that we leave an island and universally agree that we need to go back. Steve and Severine (as well as the kids!!) were wonderful hosts and did everything in their power to ensure our stay was all it could be (Steve even provided a cell phone to use to contact him for any reason whatsoever).

We alternated days of lounging on Bath Beach (Grandma's favorite on the island) and exploring the island. Barbados is the largest island we have been on thus far and is about the perfect size for exploring by car. We rented a van and had the fun of figuring out the "Barbados in a Nutshell" road map (have fun with that!). It's fairly accurate but watch out for unmarked roundabouts and roads that are "highways" that visibly look like a back alley. Be careful driving at night and watch for pedestrians on the road. At the end of the day you are on an island so it really is hard to get lost. We picked up fish at the markets in Oistens, Speightstown, and Holetown and grilled them at home. We dined at Juma's in Speightstown and Lobster Alive! in Carlisle Bay. Our best day at a beach (other than Bath) was at Enterprise (also known as Miami). Definitely enjoy a Rum Punch and some fish at the little stand off of Enterprise (the other side of Miami beach where the Mangrove trees are on the beach). Our Rum Punch competition came down to this little stand and the Jolly Rodger in Bridgetown (Jolly Rodger won... barely). We enjoyed these after heading out on a "Coolrunnings" catamaran ride. This is highly recommended and was one of the highlights of the trip. We couldn't imagine a better day on a boat - snorkeling, swimming, flips and dives off the boat, and a catered lunch. Spectacular!

At the end of the road at Bath Beach is a very nice trail (the Bath trail). I ran it several times with my wife and son up to Martin's Bay. Steve informed me that it goes up through Bathsheba and Cattle Wash all along the east coast of the island. My son (who's 11) thought it would be cool to return someday and run the length of it. This will definitely be on the itinerary next time.... which won't be soon enough!

BEAUTIFUL BATH

  • 5 of 5
Just returned from a wonderful week in Barbados at Dunworkin. If you want a truly local experience away from the run of the mill resorts, this is the place for you! Don't expect a fancy room and pricey meals, this is a place you can really relax, get back to basics, and appreciate the simple things in life. All necessities are included, the accommodation is clean and spacious. We walked the beach at least once a day, delightful, there's nothing like walking a few steps and having a whole beach to yourselves. Anyone we met was friendly.
We highly recommend the coastal path walk to Martins Bay, fantastic views, and we had a memorable visit to St Nicholas Abbey, great staff! There's so much to see and do in Barbados, nothing is far away and the driving is fairly easy, so if you do want that meal out there are good restaurants a short drive away.
The supermarket at Emerald City has a nice variety of local produce. We cooked flying fish one night and barbequed local lamb another, both with local veggies, yum!
What can we say about Steve and Severine? You could not find more pleasant and helpful hosts. Steve even gave us a recommendation to David Stoutes car rental who kindly gave us a discount. The children are great as well, we enjoyed meeting them. They don't intrude but at the same time you feel very welcome. No fuss, just sit back and enjoy!

RELAX AND WIND DOWN

  • 5 of 5
If you want to get away and relax (I mean really relax!) "Dunworkin" is the place to go! A lot of Bajans think that they have to travel overseas or go to other Caribbean Islands to take a break - avoid all the hassle and enjoy our beautiful island. "Dunworkin" in Bath is the place to go. The house is spacious, clean and comfortable and the best part - it is right on the beach - no road to cross! My daughter and I picked the place because we loved the location and the owner is living right next door (which also makes you feel safe). We watched breath-taking sunrises and enjoyed the tranquility. The owner Steve and his family are great company, very easy to talk to and helpful in every way. When it was time for us to go home, we both did not want to leave but one thing made our departure easier... I am already planning for my next stay at "Dunworkin". See you soon Steve!

NINE DAYS LIVING IN PARADISE

  • 5 of 5
This was our first time in Barbados and we fell in love with it.
We were traveling as a family of three -- parents with a 10-year-old boy. Before our trip, we tried booking several places to stay, but none were available, so we went with “Dunworkin”. After arriving and exploring the island, we realized how lucky we were to stay at “Dunworkin”! This is a very unique place and met all our expectations. All the previous reviews from other travelers were spot on and were helpful in convincing us to book this place.

I only have one tip to add: Wake up early in the morning (approximately 5:30am), fix yourself a cup of coffee, go to the beach, and watch the sunrise. You'll realize that LIFE IS GOOD! That feeling belongs only to this place!

Special thanks to our hosts, Steven and Severin, who were very thoughtful, helpful and generous.

GREAT SPOT FOR A FAMILY VACATION!

  • 5 of 5
Just returned from a wonderful week with the family at Dunworkin and we couldn't have picked a better spot.

Bath Beach is beautiful and quiet. With the exception of Sunday, when we saw many locals on a picnic, we mostly had the beach to ourselves or shared it with a few. We spent countless hours walking and combing the beach for treasures, playing in the sand and wading in the water or just sitting on beach chairs watching the waves roll in. We even did some snorkeling however it was a little rough for us to go out to the reef. Watching the sun rise and admiring creation as another reviewer put it was great for the soul.

When we wanted a little more excitement we just hopped in the car and found some. The best of which was swimming with the turtles at Folkestone. All the supplies we needed were found 15 mins away at Emerald City Supermarket in Six Roads. Barbados is pretty easy to navigate and get around and you shouldn't hesitate to rent a car. Bus service is regular, inexpensive and reliable but a car is much easier. We enjoyed all kinds of adventures all over the island but at the end of the day we loved coming home to Dunworkin.

The cottage itself was rustic but comfortable. It had everything we needed and lots of space. Cool ocean breezes and the salt air made for great sleeps. With young kids we loved that it had a fenced sandy yard that was well treed. The swing by the beach got tonnes of use. Couldn't get the kids off it! When we wanted to go to the beach to stick our toes in the water we simply opened the gate - too easy. Coming from Canada we were a little surprised by the lack of hot water but it turned out not to be an issue. We simply took our showers mid day when the water was warm and we were looking to cool off. The property is shared with the owners and their home is just a few meters off the back patio but it wasn't a bother. Steve and Severine have made exceptional efforts to make the cottage private. Their family is so quiet that we never knew whether or not they were home! We used the phone if we had questions which they always happily answered. They truly were the most wonderful hosts.

We had an excellent week at Dunworkin. Our only regret is not staying longer. If you like quiet family time at the cottage or hate tourist crowds and feeling like cattle at the resort then you'll be happy here.
