HISTORIC MANSION DUPONT/LOGANMIDDLE OF THE CITY! 8 BEDS 6 BA

Dupont Circle House Rental Photos and Description

House, 8 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 6 Baths, (Sleeps 16)

This Extraordinary Historic Detached Mansion is located in Dupont/Logan Circle areas in the Middle of the City. Approximately 5000+ SF, The former Rectory of St. Augustine's Church and the original site of a Civil War Hospital is one of the few remaining large downtown estates that have not been converted to condominiums! It is located directly across the street from the World-renowned Masonic Temple with spectacular views of the rear gardens and its magnificent Pillars lit at night. A wonderful tour is offered weekdays!! The Old Mansard Bishops house and Convent buildings next door still retain the architecture of the period, and are quite beautiful. It is a very short distance to the White House, just one block to 16th Street the 'Avenue of the Presidents', and a stroll to the downtown Business District and Major Monuments. And for those looking for DC'S newest and hottest restaurants and clubs, the Rectory is just a couple of blocks away to the must-go and trendy 14th Street corridor.

Being a detached structure this home offers sun filled rooms and quiet visits with new high end thermo-pane windows through-out. This home has been decorated with attention to the buildings beginnings, a crosscut travertine floor has been laid and the original plaster wainscoting has been hand painted by a local artist to match all the way to the third floor. The first floor is spacious and covered in original woodwork of chestnut wainscoting and old world pine. Please notice in our sites photo's of the original great doors to the dining room and den. The original closets throughout the home were constructed of cedar wood to preserve the woolen frocks of the monks and dignitaries. The original stained glass in the hallways leading up through the home still retain some of the original stained glass with the the letter 'A' for the church she was built for, St. Augustin! The original church is still standing just up the street, and worth a tour of her magnificent stained glass and architecture!

The kitchen has a sun filled breakfast area, again with lots of windows. Also Commercial grade appliances, lots of cooking utensils and serving platters, and the cupboards are full of glassware, dishes, and utensils.

The family room is in the rear of the home with double French doors to the rear trumpet vine covered patio for grilling. This room boasts wooden cross-beamed ceilings, yet more wood wainscoting and moldings, and a working fireplace. Please feel free to use the large flat screen TV while lounging on the comfortable leather sofa's…very comfy room!!

Also on the main floor is a private den that doubles as an extra bedroom on the main floor. There is also a full bathroom with shower on the main floor. This is ideal if you have a guest that has troubles with stairs.

The main living room is a bit more formal with rich curtains at the bay window, comfortable yet elegant seating and a wonderful area to gather for cocktails! Just across the hall find the den with a pull out leather sofa and antique writing desk. The dining room may be extended into this room by opening the massive wooden by-fold doors. An additional table is available. Lest we forget, there is a full bath/powder room on this floor and plenty of coat closet space!

Upstairs, on the second floor you will find a flower balcony looking to the Mason's temple. We have often seen the presidential entourage from this spot and wave accordingly? The enormous master bedroom is en suite with a separate shower and large soaking tub. The two additional bedrooms share a private hall with a full bath and two large cedar closets.

Follow the wainscoting to the third floor and find five more bedrooms. Each with its own solid chestnut and pine door. Two of the rooms share a hall and would be perfect as a suite or two bedroom private area. The third bedroom is en-suite as well as the fourth. The fifth bedroom is quite spacious and has access to the fourth bath through a separate door. Lots of light in all of these rooms and some have spectacular views of the city including the Washington monument!

The private roof-deck is spectacular. Views 360. The original Rectory Cross is still standing and the perfect spot for watching the sunset behind the Masonic Temple. Look to your left through the pergola, and see a beautiful and perfect shot of the Washington monument!!! Lots of roof top planters with mature trees and flowers, depending on time of year…The fourth level is by appointment only, and must be approved for use by the owner. No children allowed on roof deck. Please be advised that this home is child friendly but not child proof. We are also in a quiet neighborhood setting and cannot allow any parties or loud music. None outside. Although we love pets, they are not allowed on the property. The completely separate basement unit is not included in rental and these tenants have access to rear yard for trash and emergencies only.

I love hosting people in my homes in DC. My brothers and I have been providing vacationers comfortable accommodations since 2011. I wanted to create a special business handling exceptional and interesting properties. It is my goal to provide properties that create a magical and whimsical setting while you are in Washington, yet provide the services people need that have busy lives that follow them when they travel ...

I bought this home because I wanted a large, unique and special place where my friends and family could gather. It had to be in the middle of it all yet, peaceful, quiet and elegant. Washington is an amazing city and this property is located in the most vibrant part of the city in my opinion. Shops, restaurants, Whole Foods, the theater, Steps Away....

There are many unique things about this property. The property was a former Church Rectory. It was built for Communal living and the floors and walls are concrete and masonry. As a result it is very quiet floor to floor. The home has beautiful high celings and woodwork. It is directly across the street from the Masonic Temple and a lush Community Garden ..... Although the house is large, it is beautifully scaled and comfortable. There is an amazing park just up the hill with an incredible view of the city....

Quiet and Private the home has hosted countless Washington luminaries.

It has one of the most incredible roof decks with an amazing view of the Masonic Temple one of the cities most interesting Archiectual masterpieces. This roof deck is available for your enjoyment until 9pm.

GREAT PROPERTY

  • 5 of 5
Awesome property for a group vacation in the DC area. The house was lovely, esp. the roof deck. The only (minor) downside is that it is a fairly significant trek to the closest metro stop.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. As for metro access the house is conveniently located 4 blocks from the U st Metro, a 8 minute walk. Dupont circle metro is a 13 min walk away. If you are heading to the convention center just hope the metro from U st and the total commute is 16 min.

Public transportation to the National Mall is available via the Circulater bus on 14th street. Just walk out the front door cross the street and catch the bus for $1 a person. Couldn't be easier.

We also recommend using the Uber car service. It is clean, efficient and economical.

EXCELLENT FAMILY STAY FOR WEDDING WEEKEND

  • 4 of 5
Our Midwestern family was looking for a unique place in a central location for the entire family to stay for our daughter’s wedding weekend. The mansion worked very well. Ample bedrooms and bathrooms for all, great space to cook, gather, and just hang out. Our wedding photographer loved the house – especially the huge master bedroom suite and balcony area for many stunning “getting ready” shots. Parking was a challenge. The provided parking spot is adequate for one car but any additional parking was difficult particularly in the evening due to the popularity of 14th St establishments. Use the nearby Metro and avoid the parking hassle as much as possible. The rooftop deck area was comfortable and relaxing. Our guests wanted to linger well beyond the 9:00 pm rooftop curfew. Thanks to Cliff and Paul for helping our family to have a very memorable and enjoyable stay at the mansion.

BRILLIANT TIME.

  • 5 of 5
As a group of 15 we stayed at the mansion for 3 nights whilst visiting Washington. The location was great close to all the amenities we needed. The house itself is gorgeous and we all fitted in easily with plenty of room. There were a couple of very small issues (The ironing board and iron were hard to find, and there was no working telephone in the house (that we could find) for local calls) apart from these small issues everything was great. I would highly recommend this house to anyone, it certainly had the WOW factor.

FAMILY VISIT

  • 5 of 5
"Awesome" was our 11 yr old grandson's comment upon settling in to this property with his two brothers and two cousins. All 11 of us enjoyed the convenience and opportunity to share the great experience that is Washington DC. While affording privacy if you wanted it, we also loved the bonding and fun the family rooms allowed. Eclectically furnished it is a comfortable, relaxing property.

OUTSTANDING!

  • 4 of 5
We rented this home as it was close to the venue for our daughter's wedding. Great location, plenty of bedrooms and baths for a big group without being on top of each other. Kitchen has everything you could ask for. Enjoyed the professional stove as it more have accommodated a quick meal for out group. Make sure you take time to enjoy the unique pieces to be found in every room and the roof patio is a great place to relax.

OUTSTANDING MANSION RENTAL IN DUPONT CIRCLE, DC

  • 5 of 5
We rented this lovely old 8 bedroom rectory/mansion for our daughter's wedding. Some of our best friends and family members stayed with us. The house is simply amazing. It is decorated in a intriguing way with a mélange of antiques, african art as well as modern pieces. The commercial kitchen is OUTSTANDING! I have serious kitchen envy! I love to cook, and this kitchen was very well stocked. The dining room was lovely. The master bedroom was fantastic. We used it to get ready for the wedding with our own beautician to do hair and make-up. The master bath is incredible--I want that Jacuzzi. And the double shower is great, although I am a bathtub kind-of girl. My husband was in shower heaven. The other 7 bedrooms are very nice. And the beds are comfortable. The roof garden is just beautiful, with views of DC. The location couldn't be better, near the metro and within walking distance of Dupont Circle and some great restaurants. There is a Whole Foods a few blocks away. I have run out of superlatives. I would recommend this house to anyone other than those with stair-climbing difficulties and small children.
