Historic 3 bedroom home, nestled in St. Croix River Bluffs

One of Afton's original homes, nestled in the trees, facing the bluffs, and along a small spring-fed creek.

This home is loaded with charm....park your car and cross a small footbridge to reach this 100 year+ home with wood floors, small rooms but ample space for relaxing and entertaining. Nice woodsy yard with a fire pit for your enjoyment.

This secluded home is only a few hundred yards from the old town of Afton and 3 miles from the Afton Alps ski area, Afton State Park, and within 1/2 mile of town beach and marinas.

Enjoy fire pit in the yard; cook in the kitchen... it's yours while you're here.

We will have breakfast foods for you in the refrigerator, so you can make omelets, pancakes or French toast (with real maple syrup), and of course there will be coffee/tea/hot cocoa. Let us know if you'd like juice and if so, what kind so we can be ready for you.

Bring your bathing suit, kayaks, mountain bikes, cross country skis, snowboards, downhill skis, or just your walking shoes 'cause there's a lot of natural beauty around.

Afton also has a great wine bar and some nice small restaurants, ice cream shop and shopping. Don't get TOO excited about all of this, because it's about the smallest, cutest town you might see but it won't take long to see it all!

The home has three bedrooms upstairs; they are all 'attic' bedrooms with sloping roofs, windows that look onto the woods and bluffs.

'Master' bedroom has a futon bed with a down top, then a down comforter , a book case.

A second bedroom has two twin beds, and a third bedroom (off the second) has a twin poster bed with a down comforter and a sea-grass mat .

There are board games in the living room; home is a bit low on electronics (WiFi, TV, Cable....) but we're thinking of upgrading so if that's a specific request let us know. As it is now, it's quiet, peaceful, old-fashioned and you kind of have to make your own fun and enjoy the surroundings and the company of those around you.

The house has been recently redecorated but we are still making changes/improvements and really appreciate suggestions from guests. As of now, there's a stand-alone tub.... but no shower stall. We'll be fixing that, probably by the time you come (but if it's an absolute need, better check w us!)

Afton is know for its picturesque but small village, the St. Croix River (A national scenic waterway) and Afton State Park. You'll feel as if you are deep in nature, although only 20 minutes from downtown St. Paul. Secluded; and yet near people and activities. Area is ideal for hikers, bikers, skiers, and other outdoor lovers. Stillwater is a nearby tourist destination town, 'Minnesota's birthplace' and full of great restaurants, antique stores, book stores, clothing, etc.

  • 'Master' bedroom --- is right next to the kitchen, and has wood paneling, wood burning stove, small table. Very comfortable, very romantic. Upstairs 'master bedroom' -- was the previous biggest bedroom. It's more of a cozy bedroom, and we've emphasized that by having a soft down topper on the futon mattress to make sure it's comfy, and then including a fresh fluffy comforter on top. There's a bookcase with a wide range of selections in the bedroom as well as a reading chair. Ample storage shelves for your clothes. 'Kids' Bedroom is set up so it has good space to play, and a table that's great for sitting on the floor and playing board games. 'Single Bedroom' is off the kids bedroom, feels very private and has a soft big white comforter.

    The property is across the creek and there's a small bridge. Then there are two steps to get up to get in the front door. We could create a make-shift (sturdy) ramp. Perfect Cabin in the Woods, no really.. PERFECT!

My Wife and I were looking for the "Cozy Cabin in the Woods" for a nice weekend away.
If this place does't fit the bill I don't know what would!!

The home is warm and welcoming.
From the quaint walk up to the house, over the bridge and through the woods you enter into a home that instantly makes you feel like you won't want to leave. With old plank hardwood floors, wood burning stove, canopy bed in the master, and a few other nice upgrades this house is perfect for someone looking to "just get away"

The whole house was simply but beautifully decorated, and generated a peaceful atmosphere that was just amazing. Our ability to just sit and relax without any distractions, to enjoy each-others company, was heightened by the comfortable and unique furniture in living room.

The owner is super friendly and happy to provide any assistance. The kitchen was stocked with breakfast food and great cookware, if you prefer to eat in.

If you do want to eat out however, there is a fantastic wine bar within a 2 minute drive, or 6 minute walk.

For those who can't be completely separated from the outside world, the Verizon 4G cell service is quite good. I was able to use both my hot-spot and cell phone for internet access.

Shopping within a 10 Minute drive was a big plus and having the lake right there will be good when we go back next year!

I would recommend this rental to anyone... :)

Charming house in the woods

This is a true respite and vacation and so close to the city, From the moment we arrived, we stepped back into an earlier time and another world. The roaring fire lit the beautiful master bedroom and we sunk into the quiet of this beautiful land tucked into a limestone bluff. The next morning we were greeted with 9" of snow and cross country ski'd our way to the town of Afton for a delicious meal. Everything was perfect, including our fun and interesting hosts, Robin and Erin.

Beautiful Fall retreat

We came out from Minneapolis with two couples; brought our bikes and spent the days riding and on the river, then back to this absolutely charming home for barbeque on the open fire outside. We had a nicely stocked refrigerator for breakfast..... with yummy maple syrup and buttermilk pancakes, bacon, coffee, juice. The beds were very comfortable.
We spent one evening in Stillwater, MN and the other one out by the fire and then inside playing board games. One of the best, relaxing weekends I've had in a long time. And the setting is so absolutely peaceful I could not believe I was only 40 minutes from home!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
