The original house is in the Greek Revival Style c.1809. The Ivory Goodwin House (as it is known) was named after it's original owner Ivory Goodwin. Goodwin was a master ship building craftsman and captain of the ferries to the islands off Cape Porpoise.
The home is very unique and NOT a typical rental property. The house has been painstakingly restored with a new architecturally sensitive addition. The result combines the best of old world charm and state of the art modern amenities. Every convenience and comfort has been taken into account. The physical location is
incredible. Literally walk to everything. You constantly are aware of the water and the nautical history and heritage of the Kennebunkport.
There are wonderful dining options, art galleries and shops within a 5 minute walk. The property is beautiful inside and out. The Williamsburg style grounds and landscaping are exquisite and represent a very unique feature of the property. Whether it's Spring, Summer, Fall or during Christmas Prelude the inside and outside of the house complement each other in a very unique and special way.
To be honest, when I read the reviews before ibooked the home I was concerned. They were so positive that I found it hard to believe there wasn't some hyperbole. There wasn't.
Our family has vacationed all over the US for years and have stayed in many lovely homes and properties. But this property is the family's favorite to date. The owners are so nice and are absolutely committed to making certain their home is exactly what you want. We have never seen such an immaculate and well-equipped home for vacationing; it has everything. The home lives up to the pictures. The location is perfect; a short, lovely walk to down-town and tucked away sufficiently so you don't hear or "feel" the tourists. Our family loved the DR and Kitchen and started out every day with a large breakfast which was a joy to eat in the sun-filled DR with a large table making everything comfortable.
Our favorite spot was the outside patio where we had cheese, drinks and great conversations every late afternoon.
I spent months looking for the perfect place. And I found it!
Last month, my husband and I traveled from CA to Kennebunkport for our son's wedding. For such a special family occasion, we did not want to stay at a hotel. We wanted a beautiful home, someplace our family could relax and spend quality time together. We hit the jackpot with this house.
Being very fussy, I always travel with my own pillow. It has gone with me as far as China. It was not needed in this house. I am as fussy about mattresses (no, I don't travel with one) so was beyond thrilled with the comfort and quality of the beds and linens. Each bedroom has its own bathroom stocked with fluffy, beautifully folded towels.
We all loved gathering around the kitchen counter in the morning over coffee or late in the evening after one of the many fun wedding related functions.
Many friends and family, in town for the wedding, dropped by and all were dazzled by the house. The great room was the perfect place for our son and all his groomsmen to watch college football while they awaited the golf cart to arrive to whisk them off to St. Ann's.
The landscaping is so exquisite that we had our family pictures taken at the house before heading to the church.
The owners were wonderful and made sure we had all the contact info we needed in case we had any questions.
If you are looking for a place to spend a special family event, look no more. We couldn't have imagined a more perfect place to stay during such a momentous occasion. Plus, the neighbors are nice too!
Grandmama rented this very special house for a month in Kennebunkport! Each of her 3 sons and their families were invited to experience Kennebunkport while staying in an ideal location and in a magnificent house! The owners have made this coastal home a truly special place to stay. The house is stocked with every appliance and kitchenware you could possibly need. They even have all the necessities- large pots, decorative lobster plates etc. to create your own Lobster Boil dinner. The linens on the beds are the softest by Cuddledown! We had to drive to Freeport, Maine to the Cuddledown store to buy some for ourselves. We so enjoyed the patio area and beautiful yard- many photo ops were had here. The location of the house is walking distance from Ocean Avenue and Dock Square. We were able to walk to the nearby restaurants and shops as well as the beach. This house was a very lucky find for our family who were all first timers to Kennebunkport!
Stayed in this beautiful home for a week in August. The house is in a wonderful location, within walking distance of all the restaurants and shops in the town of Kennebunkport. The house was very well appointed, and everything was clean, comfortable, and well taken care of. Perhaps the best part was the lovely outdoor patio and yard, where we spent several fun evenings. The owner was a pleasure to deal with--highly recommend!
We traveled with another couple from Los Angeles to this lovely home in Kennebunkport and stayed for a most enjoyable week in August. The home is beautifully appointed and architecturally striking. The house is immaculate top to bottom, (one could eat off the floors even in the cellar), and unlike owners who lock up useful amenities in an owners' closet, we were surrounded by luxury items (fine linens, crystal, art, etc.) making us feel like we were guests in a generous host's home. The location is also perfect. The town of Kennebunkport is heavily traveled to in the summer, but we could leave our cars in the driveway and walk just a few blocks to shopping and restaurants. Walker Point, the Bush Family home, is a few miles away as is Mabel's, a favorite seafood restaurant of the Bush family. During our stay, we were also visiting colleges with our high school daughters and were able to visit Colby, Bates and Bowdoin all in one day.brThe attention to detail is tremendous and all of our needs were either anticipated or fulfilled (as when the blender was not working and a new replacement was quickly delivered). The owner also arranged for us to be able to ship two case of our favorite California wines so that they were waiting for us when we arrived. The patio pictured was our favorite cocktail and lounging area, moving to one of two lovely interior living rooms after sundown. We would love to go back, especially if our daughters wind up at schools in Maine!
I was travelling with my two good friends. This lovely home was absolutely perfect for our week in Maine! We arrived late Saturday night and the owners were there to greet us with welcoming drinks and snacks - they had even stocked the fridge for the next morning's breakfast.
The house was exactly as represented - pristine, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The bedrooms and bathrooms are wonderfully furnished with everything one could want. The location is an ideal distance from the activities in town. We could walk to lots of restaurants and shopping. Then in the evening we would sit outside on the patio and not hear anything but our own conversation.
We had an occasion to call the property manager (could not locate the charger for the tv remote) and she answered promptly.
I would highly recommend this property and can't wait to book another trip! It was perfect!
Marinas, The Jetty and Colony Beach are located a short stroll along Ocean Avenue. The Village Green, Fishing Charters, Schooner Ship Cruises, Power Boat and Kayak Rentals, Dining, Shopping, Art Galleries and of course the Horse and Carriage Rides are 2 blocks from the house.
