Carey and Dave are well traveled and both work at a large hospital in downtown Austin. Carey is from Texas and has been in Austin since 1988, Dave is from Montana and relocated to Austin to be with Carey (and enjoy mountain biking year round!). If you would like any recommendations for outdoor activities, cycling trails, parks, etc they can help out. Two small, well-behaved dogs live in the other half of the duplex and will be seen in the gated off backyard when they choose to come out their doggie door. No barking!
Carye purchased this studio in 2006
We chose this property six years ago when the house was built because we both love cycling and wanted to be able to ride our bikes to downtown and work--20 minute leisurely ride to Town Lake, 10-15 minutes to S. Congress restaurants, Continental Club, great coffee shops and Mexican food.
We love the location of this home and the low upkeep. Tile floors throughout keep things clean and dog friendly, vaulted ceilings make the area feel larger. The master bedroom gets plenty of light, but has 2' wooden blinds and curtains if you would like to sleep late!
My boyfriend and I stayed here during our birthday weekend. We are UT alumni so we come back to visit often and this little guest house is our favorite place to stay so far, way more private and "homey" than a hotel. We spent most of our time in Central and South Austin so the location was really great for us (about 10 or 15 minutes to most places we went). The other reviews are right about the bedding, so comfortable! We spent most of Sunday after noon lounging in the bed watching TV. Carye and David were also very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back in the future!
My fiancé and I spent 3 nights in Carye's studio and were very pleased! The space is perfect for two. The closet area provides plenty of storage space for luggage and doubles as a kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave. Although coffee and tea were complimentary we did not take advantage of the yummy Starbucks options. There are also snacks and beverages available for purchase for a fair price. We stopped by the downtown Whole Foods to stock up on essentials while there, but it certainly isn't a necessity with the options available in the studio.
Clothes hangers, towels, pillows, and blankets were all available for us. As well as two small portable heaters and a fan. The heaters came in handy as a cold blast came through Austin while we were there. The temperature in the room was perfectly comfortable, but the heater was a nice addition to warm up the bathroom after showers. The bathroom is equipped with a double vanity, storage space for toiletries, a decent sized shower, and a soaker tub.
The bed was very comfortable and the entire studio was spotless. I suffer from allergies and many hotels irritate them, but I felt great here. No red eyes or stuffy nose, which tells me this room is taken care of very well! The personal touches and decor around the studio gave us a very homey feel as well.
While the studio is attached to the home, the entrance was separate and private. No loud noise or tv sounds coming from the house. It really made us feel like we were in our own apartment.
The studio is in the perfect location! Less than a mile from SoCo, 15 minutes from the airport, 10 minutes downtown, an hour from San Antonio... We couldn't have asked for a better location. Even with the busy Austin traffic, we did great getting around town.
Carye touched base with us mid-stay which was also a nice touch. For my first experience with a Home Away stay, I have been spoiled! What a great experience... thank you!
I wanted to personally thank, Carye, the owner! It was a last minute reservation, I didn't want to stay in a hotel, I was going to Austin, to visit family. But couple days before arriving, my family tells me, I cannot stay at there home, since there was no place to sleep! I always have a wonderful experience with booking on HomeAway, but never had to do this to visit Austin. I wanted a comfortable place that felt like home and not a hotel.
I search and searched! I had a budget since I wasn't originally planning on spending money for a hotel. The little cute studio was gorgeous, peaceful and serene. It was a place away from home, the bed was beyond comfortable! It was better than staying at a hotel. On top of it all! I got to bring my little chihuahua Daisy with us to stay. She loved the room too. Best part of it all, I was still nearby my family which was only 2 miles away.
The room was worth it, the stay was fabulous, no noise, just open the curtain to see and hear the birds. I enjoyed the wine that was chosen by Carye, great choice. Both Daisy and I, thank you for a wonderful stay, we are due for another trip to Austin, soon! Hope to be staying there again!
Long Beach, CA.
My husband and I were celebrating our 10 year anniversary in Austin. I contacted her the day before we were set to arrive and she quickly responded. The studio was amazing! The little touches make all the difference, like a fan for white noise. The bed was VERY comfortable. Thank you for the amazing stay!
The studio is a clean, cute little spot with its own entrance and gate. Carye was really helpful and friendly- she emailed me before I got there and then to check in to make sure everything was OK. The night I arrived was really late due to bad weather and the rain was pouring so they were very understanding about that. I would definitely stay here again! The place is super clean, nice big bathroom w/ tub and shower- lots of soft fluffy towels and the bed is SUPER comfortable!
We spent 4 quiet and comfortable nights in Austin at this studio! Very impressed with how organized and thoughtfully planned out this little studio is! Carye and Dave were very accommodating and the property itself is in an excellent location for hitting al the hot spots downtown/SoCo.
Our home is located in South Central Austin-less than half a mile
off two major highways (I35 and Ben White/290/71) and a direct
drive down scenic S. Congress 3.5 miles to Town Lake and downtown, passing numerous restaurants and music venues along the way. The neighborhood is only six years old and conveniently located to grocery stores, a liquor store, the famous Hill's Cafe is only 1/2 mile down the road!
