JOIE DE VIVRE Villa in the middle of small village, farms,vineyards, 10km of UZES medieval town ,wonderfull markets, also close to the PONT DU GARD, Roman aqueduc, and also 10km from Nimes a roman city.

Le gardon small river runs close to Russan through the gorges du gardon and to Collias Pont du gard and Remoulins,very popular with canooing.

Our villa JOIE DE VIVRE is my family home we renovated and we live on the ground floor.

On the first floor and separate entrance is a 4 bedrooms residence equipped with all you need.

Russan is a very small village in the middle of farms and vineyards.

Uzes a mediaval city at 10km with fantastic markets on saturday's.

Le Pont Du Gard also a roman Viaduc at about 12km and the Roman city of Nimes at only10km.

A lovely river the Gardon runs side to the village with canooing from the village to the Pont Du Gard les Gorges Du Gardon.

Nîmes is the capital city of the Gard department with a rich history, dating back to the Roman Empire. It's a popular tourist destination and only 15 minutes from Russan. Nîmes may have been one of the richest and finest Roman cities of Gaul. Several important remains of the Roman Empire can still be seen in and around the town. The Roman amphitheater is the best-preserved Roman arena in France. It is still used today for the occasional bull fight and as a concert arena.

The Maison Carrée is one of the best-preserved Roman temples anywhere and today a small exhibition serves as an introduction to the history of Nîmes. If you're shopping for the flavour of the Langeudoc, Les Halles is a great experience. Over 3000 square meters of local produce in the heart of the historic centre.

Les Halles is a unique and refreshing shopping experience. The 18th-century Jardins de la Fontaine are a beautiful relaxing place to visit and unwind. Tree-shaded boulevards trace the foundations of Nîmes city walls within which you'll find shopping, bars and restaurants to suit any tastes.

The Gard department takes it's name from the River Gardon which rises in the Cévennes National Park, a protected area above the plains of the Languedoc. Maps of the district indicating popular walks are widely available. I

The Uzes / Russan area

Russan is one of the four villages of the commune of Ste Anastasie situated in the heart of the Gard department on the River Gardon, part of the Languedoc region of the south of France.

Russan is a beautiful village ideally situated within easy reach of Nîmes, Uzès, Avignon, Orange and the great Roman aqueduct of the Pont-du-Gard. Russan is an authentic working community where there are occasional celebrations held in the square or outside the church. The area is popular with visitors, both French and international.

There is a boulangerie two minutes walk for croissants, bread, savories, and pastries. The Alimentation across the square provides high quality produce to supplement the supermarket and the local organic produce shop in La Calmette 6k away. The cafe/bar on the corner of the square makes delicious coffee from 6 o'clock in the morning and you can buy a British newspaper there too. There is also a hairdresser and a pizza shop in the village.

A short drive over the gorge and into the hills there is an organic winery, Ocre Rouge where you can buy locally produced red, white and sparkling wine by the bottle or the case.

Activities in the area include Kayaking, Canoeing, Climbing, Walking, Cycling and excellent restaurantys.

Nîmes airport is situated about 10km south east of Nîmes at Garons.

Getting to Nîmes from London using the Eurostar and TVG networks involves a simple, single platform change at Lille, or you could arrange to travel via Paris and spend a little time there. Either way the TVG provides a comfortable alternative to flying.

The 24k from Nîmes Airport at Garons to Russan is a simple thirty minute drive round the outskirts of Nîmes and along a quiet back road through the hills.

If you prefer to drive on main roads the alternative route via La Calmette takes you conveniently past the closest supermarket.
