Guestbook comments from the owner
My husband and I went to the Bowen Island for our honeymoon and the house was absolutely perfect. It is so beautifully situated on top of the rocks with such an incredible view of the water and islands that you truly feel that the indoors blend seamlessly with the incredible outdoor scenery. Everything, from the fireplace to the kitchen is so well executed and with such care that we never wanted to leave!
One of the best nights was when we had dinner catered by Chef Matt Matheson of Vine and Garden. From the moment he arrived, Matt was the perfect host and his food was incredible – creative, perfectly presented and really highlighted the local ingredients – many of which were picked from his garden. My favorite of the apetizers – a thin crisp of honey fennel bread (his own recipe) topped with whipped local goat cheese, radish and arugula. The second course was an unbelievably creamy risotto with spot prawns followed by a steelhead trout – all paired with local BC wines. All in all, Matt made this night the most memorable of our whole honeymoon with his incredible dinner!
Thanks for sharing this house with us for our honeymoon. Best, Lauren & Dan

The realization of Bowen Island Boutique Beach House has been a labour of love. Its owners, internationally renowned landscape architect Janet Rosenberg and her partner Dr. Abe Chaiton, dedicated themselves to creating one of the most unique homes on the island, with no detail overlooked and every stunning view captured.
Living on Bowen Island was Abe’s and Janet’s long time aspiration. In 1992, Abe fell in love with British Columbia having spent extended time in the province serving as a locum for resident doctors. Together, sailing up and down the coast to Desolation Sound, Abe and Janet were mesmerized by the west coast landscape and enlightened by the people they met on their adventures. Yet Bowen Island stood apart in their fond memories as an unspoiled Canadian gem where they could appreciate life’s simple treasures. And so, each year for ten years, they moored their sailboat, Luba, in Snug Cove, claiming temporary residence on the island, but constantly scouting for just the right spot where they could one day build their dream home.
In 2009, they finally found such a place, a rare property on the waterfront with its own private beach and secluded setting, perfectly embodying the spirit of Bowen Island that they fell in love with. Drawing on Janet’s expertise, they embarked on a two-year design-and-build project, putting together a team of designers who would help them create a home like no other. This home, now completed and sitting proudly perched above the Salish Sea, is a simple architectural glass box that celebrates Janet’s and Abe’s eclectic taste, modern sensibility, and respect for art. From local furniture manufacturers, east coast folk artists, and Inuit print makers to contemporary sculptors and photographers, there’s a touch of Canadian diversity in every room.
We fell in love with the west coast, the people, and their quality of life. The constant change of sound, scenery, and light on this property are captivating.
You can do so much and so little and be completely satisfied. The Island offers many activities but it's the still moments that are most memorable, when we are just looking out at the water and the green around us. We enjoy going to visit the quaint restaurants, craft shops, and markets in the town where everything tastes and smells better. We also enjoy kayaking and sailing, while having easy access to go to the city for the day.
