The Silk Studio was built by a Manhattan builder as a private oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle. The 1,100 square feet (100 SM) is meticulously designed and crafted to the smallest detail. The large oversize windows look out on classic cast iron architecture, landmark buildings and a veritable sky garden. The kitchen is as functional as it is beautiful. The bathroom is bliss: from the heated floor, to the five head shower with integrated infrared sauna, to the deep tub which fills in four minutes.
The 'bed-room' is so much more than a room with a bed: it is a sound-proof oasis with an independent ventilation system and guarantees a restful sleep anytime of the day or night (as proven by high-tech sleep analysis.)
The main loft can be used as you see fit: lounging, entertaining, yoga, dancing, sleeping, photo or video sessions and art shows have all been done here. No need to worry about making noise, as the entire loft: floor, walls and ceiling have been engineered and built to isolate sound and vibration. If you want to hear the city, just open the windows.
The Bose surround sound system is built in and powered by a Marantz amplifier, for music even a connoisseur can appreciate, just plug in your tunes (iPod, phone or computer) and enjoy.
The structural steel column is history exposed: built of Carnegie steel in 1908 and hot riveted by teams of 'pitchers and catchers' that installed the rivets while red-hot to ensure a solid composite column when they cooled.
The lobby of The Silk Building is an artwork on it's own merit, one of Richard Haas' early masterpieces and the building itself has been home to stars like: Brittany Spears, Cher, Richard Gere and Richard Simmons.

The Silk Studio is both home base and labor of love for me.
Intentionally chosen and built out, to be an oasis in the concrete jungle, with truly unique details as well as uncommon attention to detail.
Currently, I travel over 90% of the time, some for work, some for pleasure and sometimes just to get lost.
It's a pleasure for me to share the loft, with other open minded people who wish to have a genuine New York experience.
Victor purchased this apartment in 2007
After years of building for Manhattan clients, the time came to build my own home. I sought out a property with very specific criteria of location, building, exposure, access and space. I fell in love with The Silk Studio for all that it was and all that it wasn't (built). The demolition removed everything to the building's very structure and with it 100 years of floors and walls. Only afterwards, did I design the features and the space itself.
Construction was carried out meticulously by me and my talented crew during the winter of 2008, with tweaks still continuing today. No expense was spared in materials and no detail was rushed in execution.
I believe quality is self-evident once experienced and all those who have visited The Silk Studio agree.
We had a great time in NYC! The loft was spacious and very quiet! It was perfect! Victor was great and the cleaning lady was precious! We will definately stay here again! Perfect place!
My daughter and I loved our stay in the apartment. It was quiet, clean and in a great location.
Overall a nice apartment, very large for New York standards. Great light, close to wine store, short walk to Washington Square park, many gyms in the area. Draw backs = no microwave and very uncomfortable beds.
My family of 5 recently stayed at this property. It's in a safe, mixed residential/business apartment building. There was a doorman 24 hours a day and it was very quiet. Very easy walk to subways, shopping in SOHO, lots of restaurants and NYU. It easily slept all 5 of us comfortably (2 adults in master bedroom, 2 kids in 2nd bedroom with twin beds, 1 young adult on a mattress on the floor of the living area). Very nice plasma tv, good kitchen with toaster, stove, dishwasher (no oven or microwave). The bathroom was state of the art with steam shower, large tub, 2 sinks. Victor was very easy to communicate with and he texted me during our stay to see if we needed anything. Very clean and nicely maintained. Highly Recommend.
I have rented holiday homes in europe and new york over the years. This is the BEST. Great location, nice building, beautiful space, light, well appointed and a great host.
Victor was charming, hospitable and generous to a fault. I have already recommended the property to a couple of friends and am re-booking for next year.
Could not have asked for more.
This is our 5th apartment vacation rental in NYC and by far our favorite! Our 5 night stay in The Silk Studio was excellent. The loft was as described, very roomy and enjoyable. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was fantastic including the heated floor and sauna shower. The kitchen/living area is open with an awesome view. We do not cook on vacation but we do heat up leftovers. The kitchen has only a toaster oven, no microwave or full size oven. But we did just fine with that. The location is excellent and in a very safe area. We were close to many subway lines. And walking distance to The Meatball Shop. (One of my NYC Favorites) We plan to rent The Silk Studio again, hopefully this spring.
In the center of downtown New York. Close to Washington Square Park, Bleecker Street, NYU, SoHo, East Village, endless shopping, restaurants, bars, and entertainment in the city that never sleeps.
The MLB Fan Cave is located in the building at street level.
The world famous Blue Man Group performs half a block up the street on Lafayette. New York University surrounds the building, and Cooper Union is one block up.
SoHo is four blocks south, Washington Square Park is 3 blocks west. The very quaint and historic Washington Mews, with it's 18th century houses is just north of the park.
The west village is, you guessed it, just west of that.
And the east village, well, you're practically a local by now :-)
All major subway lines are within walking distance, with easy access to midtown and Times Square, Central Park, Penn Station and Grand Central, or Downtown with Wall Street, Clinton Castle, Ground Zero and Lady Liberty.
