About Vickie and Shannon

We have owned this property since the early 90's when it was just a solar powered, cord style log shack. We built many memories through the years and enjoyed sharing the place with family and friends. After rebuilding just a few years ago we decided that we would like to share our small piece of heaven with other's who might appreciate the peace of this secluded mountain hide-away. It is our hope that you leave here with some great memories of a splendid vacation that will last a lifetime..

Vickie and Shannon purchased this house in 2009

What makes this house unique

Very few places are available for private ownership in this area of Tonto Natl. Forest. It sits just under the Mogollon Rim at approx. 5500 foot above sea level so the climate is mild to moderate compared to Phoneix. The place sits next to Ellison Creek that flows year round as well as a fulyl stocked trout pond. The property is surrounded by tall pines and juniper's and the 52 mile Highline trail can be reached within a few hundred feet. Each time we go we see amazing wildlife: bobcat, eagles, wild turkeys, javalinas, rabbits, elk, deer, coyotes and SO much more!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Joanne wrote: "Had a wonderful weekend up north with Landon Pickering and Marianne Robb. Hated to leave the beautiful scenery, cooler temperatures and good times to come back to work. Thanks Vickie Faber Owen for the use of your place and Marianne for helping us catch to many fish!"

Great place to getaway with the family!

  • 5 of 5
The house and views were amazing! Enough space for the five of us to relax and play inside, without tripping over each other. Location was close enough to other touristy spots in the area, that we didn't feel like we were driving all day. Went to the Tonto Fish Hatchery and Tonto Natural Bridge! Great places to take the kids. The house was great with all the necessary amenities. Only complaint was that the backyard had tall grass and weeds from the recent rains, that the kids didn't want to play outside without fear of getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. Otherwise, the home was everything we needed plus more! Vickie even contacted us to make sure everything was going well, which was a nice addition to the already great customer service they had provided. We are already talking about when we can come back and stay here again! One last thing - cleaning checklist to get the security deposit back... we had no problems with this at all! We were able to go through the list quickly, and it really wasn't hard to do. In fact, we got notice of our security deposit refund within two weeks! Really nice since we were under the impression it would take at least 30 days. Vickie & Shannon, thank you for opening up your place to us! We can't wait to do this again!

Beautiful Home in beautiful pines

  • 5 of 5
I can't say enough about this wonderful home, and the owners. We had everything we could want, quiet, a beautiful view, a beautiful house with a giant comfortable bed, a big living room with a tv, and the softest carpet I have ever walked across barefoot. This home was very clean and had all the amenities. Thank you so much Vickie and Shannon, you were a such a joy to deal with.

Great Escape!

  • 5 of 5
My wife, my mother and I had a wonderful time at the cabin. We went up for a weekend to get away from the valley (Phoenix). The home is large, comfortable and VERY well supplied. My mom kept commenting that "these folks have one of everything here" as she discovered cookware, appliances and furnishings.

We enjoyed restful nights in very comfortable beds and took full advantage of the cool evenings as we slept with the windows open. We were there to unwind and relax (which we did) so we mostly stayed close to the cabin and went on walks around the neighborhood. We saw elk, squirrels and many different birds. We did take one short trip and we visited the Tonto fish hatchery.

Shannon and Vickie are easy to work with and this is a great getaway location.

Fall time in Payson

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time at this very comfortable house. The views of the Mogollon rim and the stars at night are awesome. There are many quading trails to ride and wildlife to see. The home is spacious for a 3 BR 2 BA home. Everything was in good working order and there were all the necessary utensils you could ever need. I can't think of a negative to report on this house and I've stayed in quite a few over the years.

Great Way to Beat The Heat!

  • 5 of 5
This is tucked away from most all the tourist you normally hit when visiting high country during the summer. We went when it was the Perseid meteor shower and sat on the deck with blankets and wished upon many falling stars! The house was beautiful, the kitchen fully equipped. It is not close to grocery stores and we knew that going up. So we hit the Bashas in Payson and stocked up on what we would need. Plenty of room for several guests. Christopher Creek is not too far for those of you that want to venture to a restaurants or bar. We stayed put. Plenty to do with hiking and ATV trails close. The place also had a washer and dryer so if you stay longer than we did the convenience not to have to pack a ton of clothes is helpful. TV with cable available we have that at home so it was off the entire stay. Our well behaved dogs were approved and since we don’t have anyone to watch them and they are our dog kidz we were happy to have them along for our walks and hikes. All four of us left happy and rested. It is amazing how just a few days in cool country, starry skies, fresh air, pine trees, and a great place is all it takes to come back feeling re charged.

Great weekend away!

  • 5 of 5
A group of 6 of us drove up from Phoenix to get out of the heat and couldn't have been happier with our weekend at the cabin. The cabin was clean, comfortable (even for 6 adults), and fully stocked with all the essentials you need for a weekend away. We loved having access to the great hiking nearby - especially Woods Canyon Lake. Can't wait to go back and rent kayaks there.

Vickie was very easy to work with and provided clear directions for finding the cabin and lots of information on what to expect once we got there. Overall, we had a fantastic, relaxing weekend up at the cabin. This is a great location for visitors or anyone looking for a few days away from the Valley.
