Charming family cottage built by owners’ grandfather in 1959. The McGowan Cottage’s most spectacular feature is the wraparound porch - the perfect place to start and end your day. Choose a rocking chair to enjoy your morning coffee. As the day passes, boating creates an entirely different scene before your reward – brilliant sunsets over Banks Channel.
Ocean side beach is only a two-minute walk away over the dunes. During the day, if the ocean side seems a little crowded, you can always enjoy your own private beach on the sound.
Don’t forget the boat! The pier offers two boat slips and still provides ample opportunity to enjoy sound side activities. Fishing from the pier has always been a lucky spot. Enjoy your own fresh catch of the day - anything from flounder to croaker – and, most evenings, you will glimpse the Great Blue Heron who has also found the pier’s fishing to be among the best.
Cottage offers room for 8-9 to spread out in 4 bedrooms, over 1700 square feet. The eat-in kitchen is a wonderful place for family gatherings. The house is child friendly, but please, no pets. This is the cottage the owners have been coming to all their lives and we hope you will spend some time there as well. Stepping into the McGowan Cottage is like returning to a simpler, slower, more peaceful time. It’s everything the beach should be.

Another wonderful vacation week spent at your delightful cottage! The perfect escape from city life, strolling the beach, collecting shells, fishing from the pier and shopping at the various boutiques and souvenir spots. Thank you so much for sharing your summer home.
What a great beach house. We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was basic, which we loved, and had absolutely everything we needed. Right down to the beach chairs! The kitchen was great for cooking and we loved that the living area was so large and inviting. Can't beat the sunsets from the front porch, equipped with as many rocking chairs as we had people.
We stayed for my daughter's first communion. Had so much family coming to Wilmington we needed more beds than my home could provide. It was perfect!
I'd recommend this beach cottage to any and all. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home. It is obviously cared for with love.
We were looking for a reasonably priced house on the water for a guys weekend trip. The house was just what we needed. It's a simple, old school beach house with a dock across the street in the sound. The owners have taken good care of it and it has been in their family since it was built in the 50's. The owners are very nice and easy to work with. They communicated with me throughout the weekend by e-mail whenever I had a question. The only negative is that the house is hard to drive to due to the set up of surrounding one way streets and the street names are not marked well.
Fantastic fall getaway! The house is perfectly located for sunsets and the children loved the porch as did the adults. So easy to get to the beach and perfect little beach on the sound for the kids. Fishing from the pier was great too. Can't wait to go back to the McGowan Cottage. Owners were friendly and easy to work with, answered all my questions in a timely manner.
Great place! Hard to put in to words this wonderful place. It had everything we were looking for. Owners are super nice and easy to work with. House is extremly big and well taken care of. We will definitely stay here again. Very close to the beach. The view on the front porch is amazing, very relaxing. You won't go wrong staying here!
Had a wonderful time staying at the cottage. The view across the waterway at sunset is spectacular and the house is as cozy as you can get away from home.
We stayed at the McGowan Cottage for a weekend wedding that we had in town. The house was perfect for us and in a great location for an "in town" getaway. The dock was a great place to enjoy our morning coffee and soak up some rays of sun since the beach was a bit too windy on the day we were there. We were all so sad that our stay was just a weekend long. We will certainly be back to visit this one of a kind cottage on Wrightsville Beach!
