Glover House Rental Photos and Description

Dreaming of a Vermont Getaway filled with peace, tranquility & nature?

How can one choose between the sunrise, the beautiful canoe and row boat rides during the day or the unbelievable sunsets? Luckily, you don't have to - they are all right in front of you when you stay in our Getaway Cottage on Daniels Pond!

Have you ever stayed at a mountain top lake? Daniels Pond is a little slice of Vermont heaven - a perfect location to enjoy some peace and tranquility. It is a nature lovers delight!

The cottage is waterfront, with the shoreline only steps from the door. It has an open floor plan with cedar walls, exposed wood beams and views of the water and mountains at every turn. This fully appointed lakefront home comfortably sleeps 6 people (including children).

It is located in an area known as the Northeast Kingdom, named by the National Geographic Center for Sustainable Destinations as one of the most desirable places to visit in the United States. Daniels Pond is a 66 acre pond of quiet, pristine water, well known for the spectacular, romantic sunsets. It's quiet, in part because Vermont does not allow powerboats or jet skis here.

Enjoy snowshoeing, skiing, fishing, swimming, use of our canoe, row boat and 2 pool floats. Feel free to bring your own kayaks as it takes about an hour to paddle around the pond. Right outside your door is the level yard, picnic table, private dock and shoreline. The cottage is located on a very quiet dead end road. A great place for couples and families to walk, play, ride bikes and enjoy the water. This is a majestic place that gives you a wonderful sense of getting back to nature and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Why not just sit back and relax, watch the clouds go by and gaze up at the stars each night....when was the last time you did that? Don't you deserve A Getaway?

About Kristi & Ed Bride, Owners

The owners, Kristi & Ed are from VT. We have been married for more than 25 years and love our calm retreat that is our 'secret' on Daniels Pond. We grew up an hour away from Glover, near Montpelier, the capital city. Kristi has been visiting the pond with family since she was a little girl. We like to shop at at Currier's Store, Pete's Greens Farm Stand and Burtt's Apple Orchard. You might pass us on the Mt. Pisgah hiking trail, bid against us at an Albany auction or catch us floating the sunny afternoon away on the pond. We have fun by chasing a golf ball down the Westmore golf course, standing in line for an ice cream at Pick & Shovel and eating a Strawberry Shortcake at the Irasburg Church Fair. One of our summer favorites (July) is a day trip to Fitch Bay (Quebec-so bring your passport) where wineries and Bleu Lavande (Lavender Farm Fields) are located. We love exploring the towns of the Northeast Kingdom (and Eastern Townships of Quebec) and all they have to offer. We love winter, Skiing at Jay Peak and Burke Mountain and showshoeing around the pond on snowy day followed by a glass of wine in front of the fire!

Kristi & Ed Bride, Owners purchased this house in 2012

Why Kristi & Ed Bride, Owners chose Glover

The Central Location! The quiet beauty of the Pond, proximity to mountains and small towns. From May to October we like to shop for vegetables, eggs and more at farm stands on the side of the road and the many local Farmers Markets. Visit local country stores, small family owned shops, county fairs, festivals & church suppers. Make time to check out the Bread & Puppet Theater Museum, Circus Smirkus, Craftsbury Chamber Players as well as the many artists that reside in the area. This is where you get outside to enjoy hiking, biking, fishing and boating on some of the most beautiful land & water anywhere. In the fall, the leaves change color and the foliage is legendary - you have to see it to believe it! From December through April, skiing/riding Jay Peak, Burke Mountain or Stowe, and snowshoeing, ice skating and snowmobiling are available throughout the area. Jay Peak also has a huge, amazing indoor water park that is open year round! Each spring brings the 'Maple Sugar Season' where the famous VT Maple Syrup 'Liquid Gold' is bottled for all to enjoy on pancakes, ice cream & more!

What makes this house unique

Daniels Pond is so beautiful and this cottage was hand built in the 1980's by Kristi's Dad. He cut down the cedar trees on the lot and used them to build the cottage! As you can see it is waterfront and has a small sandy beachfront on the edge of the pond, perfect for wading in the water slowly or sitting on the dock and kicking your feet. In the winter, it's perfect for Snowshoeing, Ice Fishing and Cross Country Skiing on the pond. This is a magical place to relax, reconnect with nature (and each other) and get away from it all. Don't you deserve A Getaway on Daniels Pond?

Beyond our expectations!!!

Despite my best effort, words will never explain in full the wonderful time

my family and I experienced during this New Year's vacation at "A Getaway Cottage". From the very start, I knew it was going to be something special when Kristi first called me to touch basis and go over a few details. It was hard to believe people that sweet and kind still exist in this rapid and impersonal life we are now living. Upon our arrival at the cottage, several surprises awaited us! The bubbly for New Years, the welcome note, chocolate covered strawberries, maple syrup and pancake mix, it was all beyond WOW!!! After settling in, we reviewed the attractions and things to do in the area from a neatly prepared album Kristi and Ed left for us. The cottage itself is immaculate, containing all the comforts of home, and then some! My kids wanted to see snow, and snow they saw! Lots of it! They enjoyed playing on the property grounds and on the frozen pond, something they nor I had ever seen. The beds were all comfortable as was everything inside the cottage. We spent many nights cozying up by the fireplace and reading a book, or watching TV. Everything from the owners, to the cottage, to the overall experience was PHENOMENAL !! This is definitely a place to return to as well as a place to highly recommend to friends and family! Thank you Kristi and Ed for sharing this fabulous place with us!

Owner's Response: Dear Sarah, Robert, L & M, Often the difference between a good vacation and a GREAT vacation is the details! (Glad you liked them :) We loved personalizing your stay to give you that extra "wow". Wow! Where do I even start? Usually when looking for a vacation rental, I have a bunch of houses I go back and forth looking at, trying to decide what works, what doesn't, and then finally deciding on the best of the bunch... in this case, it was the first house I saw, the first reviews I read and that was it, locked in my dates within an hour of inquiring and it was a done deal and boy, was it ever! I have NEVER had a better vacation than the one I just had at this rental. All of the reviews on this property and the owners were spot on, accurate and truthful, without a doubt! And what can I possibly add that hasn't already been said by everyone else reviewing this property? As an entrepreneur who works from home, who is "plugged in" ALWAYS, who is 24/7 with her clients, this was the FIRST time in more years than I can remember that I actually "unplugged" for the entire week and didn't feel guilty because what I felt the entire week was that I was FINALLY getting a chance to feel normal again, to feel like it was okay to have a vacation and to thoroughly enjoy myself, geez, what a concept, and yet, for workaholics like myself, vacation is like a curse and yet... in this place and with Kristi and Ed, I wanted to just stay and never leave... I did things this past week that I haven't allowed myself to do in years... hiking at Mt. Pisgau, antiquing throughout the Northeast Kingdom, eating at the Parker Pie Company and having my first beer since high school, walking the long AND short roads, having nightly wine tasting in the cottage, watching the loons learning how to fly on the pond, canoeing at sunrise, watching the mist rise above the water, reading a book for the first time in forever on the porch overlooking the pond, watching Sunday, Monday and Thursday night football, a guilty pleasure I never allow myself, making dinner each night as the sun went down... the list just goes on and on and on of things I haven't done in years and it's all because Kristi and Ed set the tone from the moment we arrived at the cottage to the moment we left this morning and said goodbye to them... it was like saying goodbye to old friends even though we had just met them a week before. When do you EVER have an experience like that and yet, that is the exact experience we had this week. You want to talk about a five-star experience, the kind that people travel all over the world to have? Well, you don't have to travel any further than this place.

Owner's Response: Dear Arlene & Jen, Vacationing at our cottage is more than just renting a clean place to stay. While having it impeccably clean is super important to us, we want to create an amazing Vermont vacation experience, a feeling of tranquility, a place to reconnect and rejuvenate. We are so happy that we exceeded your expections and look forward to having you back again soon! Wishing you both good health, much happiness and prosperity, Kristi & Ed

First trip to NE KIngdom - Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

It's would be hard to imagine any other place as peaceful and any hosts as gracious as Kristy, Ed and Arthur. It seemed so quiet to me and my wife that I mentioned to a neighbor walking by "I feel like I should be whispering". Used the gas grill every night after trips to Currier's. We will be back.

Owner's Response: Dear Richard & Linda, Isn't it wonderful to find a quiet place on earth where all the sounds and bustle of the city disappear? We are so happy that you enjoyed it so much...reading on the porch, relaxing by the water and nightly grilling! Thank you for your wonderful review and we look forward to seeing you again in July for another "pre-vacation"! Cheers, Kristi & Ed

Wow! Fall at its best in a fabulous location!

It's difficult to know where to start. Vermont has been on the "bucket list" for a very long time - 2014 was the year to tick it off.

I approached Kristi over a year ago to ask her advice on the best week to visit and after several email, we decided on the last weekend of September. We were not disappointed. As we were visiting from the UK, it was important for us to get it right.

The pond was more beautiful than we could have imagined. Peaceful, calming and unbelievably quiet. The call of the Loons carried right across the water and the more time we stayed sitting on the pier, the more comfortable they became with us. Seeing a Beaver was amazing, and a quick row across to view his lodge gives you an idea of how determined (if not destructive) these creatures are. As a birdwatcher I was not disappointed - the Bald Eagle put in an appearance on our penultimate day.

The cottage was comfortable, welcoming and a real home from home. Thank you Kristi & Ed for the maple syrup (the bottle came home with me!), the champagne and the chocolate covered strawberries. Allison wanted to try fishing and thanks to Kristi & Arthur, two rods were supplied for her to use. I'm delighted to report that a fish was caught!

The advice given to us by Kristi over the preceding 12 months helped enormously with our plans of where to visit, distances to travel and what not to miss. It made for a truly magical trip in what I can only describe as one of the best holidays I have ever had :)

Fantastic week in a superb setting

  • 5 of 5

Everyone has already told you about the welcoming gifts, how spotless and comfortable the cottage is, how serene the pond is, how Kristi and Ed and Arthur think of everything. They are absolutely right, and no one could be disappointed with time spent at the Getaway Cottage. Even being in Boston on important personal business didn't keep Kristi from calling twice to see if everything was ok and did we need anything else? Kristi had included driving directions to several places like local eateries or day trips like Stowe to make it more convenient, and lots of local information in a big binder. You could not find a more thoughtful host couple, and Daniels Pond is like a magnet - I couldn't walk past the large windows without stopping to see what was going on on the water. Loons, herons, even bald eagles made appearances. Having DirecTV and internet made the evenings fun and we could still stay connected.

I only managed one sunset evening due to weather conditions, the full moon made stargazing impossible, and we didn't see the moose we were hoping for, so that was disappointing. But the area is so beautiful and the people are so friendly it didn't interfere with us having a wonderful time. We did the touristy things, hiked or visited waterfalls, grilled some hot dogs, and ate some great meals at the Cow Palace in Derby Center and East Side in Newport. Do visit Derby Line, where the US/Canada border cuts through the center of town - very interesting. I can recommend Boyden Valley Seyval Blanc white wine and the Barn Red, and also liked the Flag Hill Sapsucker Organic Hard Cider. Do not miss the Dog Chapel near St.Johnsbury if you are a pet lover, it will bring a lump to your throat and a tear to your eye. The trails and views at Brighton State Park near Island Pond were terrific. And I think we stopped at Currier's Store in Glover every day!

Mornings spent enjoying coffee and watching the pond were my favorite times. Either there was a mirror-like reflection on the pond, or the mist rising off the water was beautiful. What a great way to start your day!

We were thrilled with our time at the cottage, and would highly recommend it to anyone. The week went by too quickly!

It sounds like you enjoyed the very essence of this special place, the magic of the pond, the call of the loons and all the NEK has to offer. Getaway cottage is exactly as described. The property is very private with beautiful views of the pond, which is more like a small lake. The cottage was very clean upon arrival and has everything you could need for your stay. Kristi goes above and beyond to make sure the rental process is easy and our needs were meet. This was the most accommodating property we have rented. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great rental in the NEK.
